Out of curiosity for those shipped all ready or for an order today will you be sending out the larger filters as a replacment once they become available? Any thoughts towards CARB certification for us in Kalifornia ?

I don't want to presume to answer for Randy, but I'm pretty sure any intake modification is illegal in California. Dinan's intake is still listed as 49-state legal, for instance. If a company that size hasn't had theirs certified in California, I don't think any others are either.

Seems easy enough to swap in the stock stuff when it comes time for a smog test, though.

Just to make sure it is clear, none of the orders placed (all 8 of them) have gone out yet - the production pieces are getting here tomorrow. They will all ship with the larger filter.

No plans for CARB cert - the thing takes 10 minutes to swap once it is in the first time. It can also be ordered powder coated black (though I don't like it for heat absorption) which looks very OEM (roadside check).

Hope that helps!
Randy

switching the intakes should be not be problem, lets just hope your getting a carb certification for the exhaust though ... lifting the bonneth is easier than lifting the car

Black absorbs heat more readily than it reflects it, increasing the temperature inside the box by some amount from the increased absorbtion of the radiant heat in the vicinity.

There's no need. Cat-back exhausts are are CA legal and CARB certification isn't required.

The K&N Typhoon is CARB certified.

That may be so, but you are looking at one of the largest air filter companies around! They have the time and money to do something like that. Where as a small company like Webb Motorsports probably does not have the time and money to do that. Like some of said, its real easy to change out the aftermarket intake before getting it inspected.

Yes it clears. But you will need to trim trim the Alta's rubber trim.

Now back to the topic @ hand..

What!!!??? you too?....

My only concern with cutting the rubber trim is
having less restriction on the firewall against the hot air
making it easier for the hot air to come into play with the CAI.
defeating some of the pourpose of the CAI.

this is why the JCW and the WM CAI's
are making more sense to me
the more I read about enclosed CAI's

I must admit the WM looks very very tempting by the minute
I just wish it had some sort of bling/badge type on top.

Correct me if I'm wrong,
I read somewhere in a thread that putting the M7 bar
will raise somewhat the bonnet and it will not close flush.
can anyone comment on this?

regards,
Charles

To each his own on the CAI. I am still on the fence on the intake but who knows.

Yes the M7 bar will cause your bonnet to not close flush on newer cars due to thicker bonnet insulation. My bar has been on about 6 months and the insulation has compressed alot and the gap is much smaller.

Yea I had to remove the insulation from the hood for the hood to close. By the way i have an 05. So I will be modifying the airbox to only allow cold air from the cowl area as the insulation has been removed and is not sealing the air box anymore.

Hey Randy,
Will this unit fit smoothly in a '05 MCSa as a DIY or do I need to wait for you to venture out to CA again? Thanks.

I'm no Randy but by the looks of this HDI the only part that would be unique to the MCSa is the intake hose. The normal HDI w/o hose would fit a MCSa without a problem. That is unless Randy also sells a hose to fit a MCSa

Speaking of Norfolk...

Don't forget to get me your flight info Randy! Actually, a quick phone call might work better...

Looking forward to seeing the HDI box in the flesh this weekend!

MCSa hose is longer, has a different curve in it and there are two vacuum fitings. I believe I hit all the differences.
