Nice pics. Pretty much since I picked up my car, the left-hand tip has had rust in the etching of the word DINAN. Is this a bad thing? or just a matter of good proper cleaning?

that was a big problem with early model exhausts. The tips were supposed to be stainless so that wouldnt happen and the supplier F'd up and thats why you see the etching rusting. Dinan should warranty. I had to warranty a bunch of them.

to test your tip to see if its stainless, put a magent to it and if it sticks. if it does, its not stainless.

Unless it's magnetic stainless...

I think some 400 series stainless will have magnets stick. But I'm just being a PITA. It's never been used for exhaust systems as far as I know!

I think it's better to say, that if it doesn't stick, it's not mild steel....

Thanks for the photos. Now I know how they should look. They never did look that good. My lettering is brown also. I tried masking tape and paint but that took way too much patience.

Took mine in yesterday and the dealer agreed, it shouldn't be rusting. A replacement is on order! Thanks for bringing that to my attention, 1FSTMINI.

Hey, I was looking at the Dinan website, and I'm starting to get interested in the S2 package. My question is: I've already got intake, exhaust, and a strut tower brace, so will I still be able to upgrade to the S2 Package, and might it be any less? I know I'll have to get a quote from my dealer, but just wanted an opinion.

I'm going up to Morgan Hill on Friday to have the S1 package installed on my MCS. It'll be cool to see the Dinan shop first hand... might have to take some pics.

Yes you can! However, the Stage 5 software is engineered to work together with the Boost kit and throttle body (in addition to the exhaust, intake and strut brace) and is essentially a "S1" which i have now. The S2 adds full suspension to the S1 kit i belive. Just check thier site to confirm this, but i think that is it. Also, im looking at the DINAN pamphlete i got from my local dealer now. The Dinan Intake,T-Body,Boost upgrade kit, software and free flow exhaust is $3945 installed

S1 does not include the boost kit and throttle body, the S2 does which i stated above. he was askin what he need to make the S2 from what he has already installed himself.

Have any of you had the opportunity to drive a JCW? I never have and likely won't get that opportunity until the summer. The torque is about the same as the DINAN Stage 5 but is the suspension even close to the DINAN S2?

My bad! I guess im halfway between a S1 and a S2 Since i have the stage 5 software boost kit and T-body, but i do not have Dinan suspension. Maybe i'll change my suspension set-up next years and go completely Dinan. All i have at the moment are lowering springs, rear sway bar and rear lower control arms.

Hey all -

I had my Dinan exhaust replaced under warranty due to the rusting as well. My only other issue with the system is that it hangs down pretty low. I see it snuggled right up to the rear apron on most other cars - should I take it back to the installer to see if they can raise it? When I'm changing tires I look at the brackets/hangers, and I have no clue how they'd raise the system if I asked. Thanks for any help!

The metal piece is bent downwards because it started hitting the pipe at my last track day. The noise was amazingly loud.

mbcoops - Your pipes looks centered well. Given the following some thought. If you have an aero kit then it may be the the design of the kit that makes it look lower to you. Also I notice that you skid plate is a bit bent. That happened to me when I backed into a parking stall curb (ouch!). That event did alter the position of my pipe (I noticed it because it rattled against another body part) and I had the pipe re-positioned. Maybe yours had been moved by a similar event. I have a rear shot in my gallery. I do not have a rear aero kit so you could look there to compare.

I bent the skid plate myself because after a run on the track the exhaust pipe was hitting it and making a really loud noise. It seems like the exhaust "settled" down to this level, and I'd like it back up an inch or so.

You may be right with the aero kit. I'll have to see another with the kit on to make a real comparison.

Here's an interesting wrinkle - I did the magnet test today on my replacement exhaust, and sure enough, it stuck. I'm very frustrated with Dinan and this stupid exhaust. The lettering is starting to rust again. I'll call and yell tomorrow, and if I don't have 900$ to buy whatever exhaust I want, they're going to have a problem.

Silly question, but I don't have access to check Dinan for the answer. Does Dinan offer a Pulley?

Yes, it's part of their "Boost Kit". I believe it's a standard 15% like most other aftermarket pulleys.

Don't think so for meeting place and time. Will be there til after Dragon run Midnight, then headed home when we hit the end. If you have a place or time in mind, make it and I will be there even if no one else shows.

My Dinan exhaust was installed last month and has drifted off to the side in a lower position. I concerned about the rusting issue. Did Dinan make things right for you?
