Who wants to see proof that a part works?

Lets have a show of hands for the people who are seriously interested in seeing proof that a part does what the vendor claims And, please...not the rest of you guys who are ready to slap down money regardless of whether or not the part does what the vendor claims

That would be nice

Proof...... then hype............of course if you have proof, you really don't need the hype

These long hype build-ups with no proof are so annoying

Of course everyone wants proof! I'm not going to spend my hard earned $$$ unless I know it does what it claims to do.

Andy, I think you've shown that there's no such thing as PROOF - it all depends on the variables - some controllable, some not. That said, I think it is reasonable to ask someone who makes a claim to provide EVIDENCE that the claim is justified.

As a buyer, I want evidence and testimonial before I plunk down my money. Then again, I'm not an early adopter.

All the upgrades I have planned have been ONLY because I've read and seen numbers posted by you guys here. If there isn't any backing the product I'm not buying.

Real world results is what sales me and I would like to thank all the readers of NAM who post their results of products. Now only if the manufactures will follow suite.

This is the most important to me as well. I care more about what my fellow drivers have to say about a product than what the vendor has to say about it. I've seen plenty of claims from a vendor that don't hold up once that product is installed. Granted it's going to take someone to buy the part on the vendors claims before they can relay to the rest of us what it's like, and depending on the part, and the vendor, sometimes I'll be the one in line.

In an Ideal world there would be three independent tests run on each product before it came to the market...you know the rest.

I don't know how much everyone here was involved in the automotive world before they bought their mini, but with about 12 years of building cars under my belt, I would rather a vendor tell me about a product a year in advance, w/o numbers, than simply have to wait until it's out to find out about it.

Now once a vendor actualy lists a product on their site, THEN I would be interested in seeing some numbers, but until then I feel privlidged just to know about the product, and its progress.

In then end though I rely more on my fellow drivers comments, and experiences rather than the vendors numbers anyway. Realworld experiences are my proof, and that cant happen until somone buys the product w/o it. Quite a catch 22.

Personally I prefer the hype but a little proof isn't a bad thing

Evidence, REPEATABLE, or I'll make and test it myself. That way it's cheaper to throw out when it doesn't work. One of my favorite quotes: "I have not failed, I've just found 10,000 ways that don't work" Thomas Edison.

Let those other fools jump in on blind faith. Me. I'll wait to read about it and then decide whether or not to plunk down my hard earned cash.

me

If it lives up to half the hype, I'd plunk down some cash for it. I've actually held up on purchasing an intake until I see AGS results. I like the design approach, but not enough to buy it blindly.

I know there are a ton of variables, but how hard is it really to do a before and after on a dyno? And before you say no one would believe their numbers, how hard would it be to donate one to a club dyno event, raffle it off, and dyno the lucky car?

I'll volunteer to arrange a dyno day, and won't enter my car in the raffle. The downside to this is that I think this would reduce the traffic to this site by a large margin. What would people argue about?

This is crazytalk I tell ya... CRAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZY

Everyone knows that repeated advertising is what sells products. Who are who to fly in the face of conventional wisdom?

Jeff - who misses the days before all the messageboards went commercial.

The weird thing is that I wonder how many people know what a 6 hp difference feels like or a 10 or 2 or 20 for that matter. I certainly didn't.

What people don't talk enough about is the torque curve which make all the difference. I gained 10 hp with one mod but it was all above 6K I would have rather had 10 more ft lb of torque at 3K.

Also, I learned the hard way that mods are not cumulative in a linear fashion.....there is some "fuzzy logic" going on........

Andy, I think there is a lot to be desired from the vendors on this and I appreiciate your starting this thread

Yah....I'm definately in on this one! It seems that the MINI world in particular is really bad about this! I come from the VW world, no flaming please, and there are a ton of reputable products available for those cars!! Companies like APR, Neuspeed, etc., put an APR chip in your 1.8T and you will be blown away by the results, I mean blown away!! Huge increase, as promised, but when I stepped over to the MINI world, as MINI's rule, I was saddened to see that the aftermarket world for MINI's seems to be almost retarded or something, with billions of different claims, that are almost all incorrect, and definately unorganized!! Just put a couple pieces of metal together and say that it will give you 500HP, and sell it, no proof, just puffed up numbers. Who wants to buy a product from a company with a bad track record of producing items that claim all kinds of amazing things, an then time and time again the product just doesn't seem to do anything really but make your car run worse!! We need the MINI aftermarket to wake up, just one company that would go to extreme lengths to guarantee the products they sell and the claims they make, and how about this, they are so real, that they give the real HP and Torque numbers reproduced, and maybe a bit lower numbers as all cars will produce a variation of the claimed gains!!! Not huge crap numbers that if you are informed at all, you will know the company is flat out lying, and the numbers are completely manipulated to fool some poor guy that thinks buying an intake will give him 20 real, noticeable hp, for only $200. What a joke...you get a little more noise!! Let's get organized please, so that we can spend more time MOTORING, and less time wondering about all the claims, and who to believe, and he said, she said!! So who do we believe as MINI drivers, Randy Webb, BMW, DINAN, ALTA, etc?????? I for one as a newer MOTORER honestly don't have any clue, but I would love to know when someone said something, they were the one, or the company to trust without question!! Thanks for listening to me ramble and PEACE my brothers and sisters of MINI!!!
