Anyone using one of these on a JCW MCS? What power gain?

Yes that is true, but did you mention that the car only has a pulley....
no exhaust, CAI, software etc.

The TB has to be combined with other uppgrades like the ones mentioned above. One thing that is better is the tip in throttle response and that by it self
could be worth the expense.

Sincerely

that is EXACTLY the problem... No one has put the parts on 1 by one and run them to see the culmative gain. We only see what each car dyno's after mods have been done. I appreciate what you are saying... throttle response is probably the biggest thing you get from the TB mod.

I'll be testing the M7 TB very soon. My MCS is at a point it can benefit from increased flow. I agree with Peter's point that there are some other "bottlenecks" in the engine that need to be addressed before maximizing the effectiveness of this simple bolt-on.

Cheers,
Ryan

Since I have to buy a new TB (according to my dealer), I was looking at M7s until I realized that it is nearly twice as expensive as the stock one Too bad insurance won't pay for that :(

Why on the website is it a "62/64mm" TB??

The TB is formed in a sort of velocity stack shape. The entry is actually 64 mm and then it reduces down to 62 mm at the plate.

unless I am mistaken the car that tested the tb yesterday doesnt even have a pulley. I believe the car has a one ball, an intake and thats about it.

Really cant expect any big hp gains from an otherwise stock motor from just a throttle body. There may be the tip in adantage but on a stock motor it would be insane to expect more. Put it on a motor that has had all the other mods done first and the tb being the last thing changed and I bet the dyno #'s would tell a much different story.

Improved throttle response is definitely worth the upgrade IMO. ...Not so subtle.

Cost: FYI
The expense of the modified T/B's is mainly due to the time involved in dis/re assembly - LOTS of small parts to deal with. Then there’s the re-bore & new plate. Time is $.

Why would your dealer say you have to buy a new T/B? What's happened to the one you have that wouldn't be covered under warranty?

To be honest, 2bhp on a car with NO other breathing mods is pretty impressive since, again, the TB only really comes into it's own when adding other breathing mods.

Here is my take on it.

If you want brilliant throttle response and have a relatively mild tuned MCS with practically no breathing mods, the TB is worth doing early on if you can afford it. You get a little more power and again, that brilliant throttle response that MINI should have factored in from the factory.

You then have it in place so that further down the modding line, you no longer have to worry about this bottleneck in the induction system.

My $0.02

Henry

Isnt a 2hp increase or decrease possible on back to back dyno runs with NO changes?

Better throttle response is... better!

Yes Cheese - that's why a competent dyno operator will observe IAT, EGT, and ECT, and do several control and test runs and observe the range of power (due to testing tolerance).
