Drivetrain Stage 1 tune?
Stage 1 tune?
Is anyone still offering a stage 1 tune for the N14? I’m selling my current DD and reinstating my ‘09 Clubman S as my DD, but it needs a cat to get rid of the CEL. If going this route, I was thinking about installing a high flow cat and down pipe, but need a stage 1 tune to keep the CEL off, correct?
Engine was rebuilt to stock spec 10,000 miles ago. Cat was soaked in oil for who knows how many miles before the rebuild by the PO. I have a stock clutch in it as well and don’t want to go beyond a stage 1 tune (with this car anyway).
I checked UroTuning, ECS, and Mini Mania. Is the tune from Detroit Tuning good? I figured if I have to spend the money on a stock cat, I might as well put that towards a stage 1 tune and high flow cat. The exhaust will have to wait for now.
Thanks!

Thank you for the info! I’ll reach out to them when I get the cat and get it installed!
If anyone else has any recommendations or info, that’d be greatly appreciated!

I have see a bunch of other tunes out there and the RPM Tune keeps coming out on top. lots of options and very safe. https://www.detroittuned.com/gen-2-e...ne-management/

a lot of other down pipes tend to not fit all that well. binding and missing mounting locations. when you buy cheap you get cheap!

nope, because at that point your just freeing up any horsepower the stock exhaust may take away from tune.
Good to know! I’ve never had a car tuned before, so this is new territory for me. I figured I wouldn’t need to, but one never knows and I know some tunes take everything into account to try and get the most out of it. I already have the JCW air filter box installed as it came on the car when I bought it.
Out of curiosity, what is the fuel economy difference with a stock vs stage 1 tune?

I’m right there with you and anything is better than my ‘04 MB E500! It was just more out of curiosity.
Anything you can do to increase the efficiency of air going in and out of the engine has the potential to increase fuel economy. For what it’s worth, my stage 2 R55 would reliably return 30-35 mpgs or higher in the highway cruising at 75 mph. I would average 30-ish mpg per tank.

No need to re-tune after adding an exhaust. we are looking for big changes like a turbo. smallvthings will not change the tune as it is set points and will automatically adjust to conditions seen by the sensors.

Fuel economy all comes down to your right foot, but normally if MPG with you goal, you would not be modding your car and be driving a cooper. my cooper's all get up to 40 mpg. my cooper S I don't even track it as a fun car. but normally a tank every other week... 360 or so miles
I’ve driven non-S Coopers and I would regularly get 40-44 mpg on my commute, so I would definitely go that route if looking for fuel economy. I got my S for the fun factor and plan to keep it for that. In fact, me not having it with me after our move in May has been killing me! I really like my MB, but the MINI is definitely smiles per miles! This is why I’m selling the MB and keeping the Clubbie.
