I am sworn to secrecy on such details, but I will certainly post some photos and an evaluation when I get one... which should be quite soon! M7 said that he would not come-out with an intake unless it was quite different, and this should certainly set itself apart in that regard. The approach taken should yield some very nice gains as well...

I have seen the intake and it is totally different than anything out there... I should have one of the prototypes in a couple weeks..... it addresses the issues that other intakes fail to work on imho..... no more secrets or I may not get mine.....

OK, give us a hint. My wild guesses.
Three words?
Looks round with a hose in it.
Smells like rubber or silicon
Weighs about the same as the stock intake plus box
Gets more air from a dedicated intake scoop.?

Hune, ram air seems like a hopeful concept.

and how much will we get to pay for this great device??
for what??- a 1-2 HP increase and a cool sucking sound

Without divulging too much, it's an air intake system that addresses more aspects of air flow than the others out there. For those focused on giving their engine more air to pump, I can't imagine a better available option. I'm guessing that this will be somewhat lighter than stock.

Price? I'd ask M7. While he probably can't nail a price just yet, from our conversations, it should be in the ballpark with the others, excluding those $1,000 dollar cf units .

I think the gains to be had will depend on one's MCS. For those heavily mod'd ones thirsty for still for air, this should be very appealing. For a stock to lightly mod'd one with it's share of restrictions, bottlenecks elsewhere will limit the upside of such a unit, but it should still perform quite nicely I would think.

This generalization applies to all aftermarket modifications to the intake, even the cheapos on ebay. As for product positioning in the market (thirsty for air, very appealing) expect price to fetch higher than any "normal" aftermarket kit.

This intake system will not be the weak link or bottleneck for the quest for more flow. The design is based upon some sound precepts that deliver performance gains. I've had the good fortune to have been chatting with Peter from when this was simply a novel idea, and it's pretty exciting to "see" it evolve to where it is today (nearly complete).

I just visited MINI2's Performance forum and didn't see a thread on that topic. Kindly post a photo or two if you can. Thanks.

Thanks Kevin for the link. I had not seen that before.

It seems that there are injector and ECU upgrades as well that can confound one's impression of this intake...

What are the qualities that make this intake an improvement over stock? The box seems to look more aesthetically pleasing, but it's still in the stock location, and it appears that the plumbing to it has not changed. I really cannot see much detail re this intake, but I can certainly say that it is nothing like how I envision the M7 system.

I'm guessing that it is getting gains by a higher flow filter element (like everyone else), and maybe by openning-up the plenum hole more for improved cooler air access (the picture reveals that possibility). If those are the only improvements, I can't imagine it peforming better than the Alta, and with M7's addressing even more aspects, I feel quite confident that Peter's system will be the best for performance. I realize that some will want factory at all costs though. Peter is working on the CARB stuff, so that is a positive also...

If one were to make a list of desired attributes of an air intake system (for gains), Peter has done quite a bit to incorporate those qualities. Again, I have not seen this thing, but after multiple conversations, I have a very solid visual picture, and I'm quite excited about what it will do. I guess we will get our first glimpse in a couple weeks at the Webb/M7 Pulley Party in LA...
