Drivetrain M7 Intake???
Matt, I can appreciate your stance, really. I'm quite excited about this product as it will be notably different than the others on the market, and not just for the sake of being different. Some cool thought went into it...
Folks are asking questions, and wanting details for which the creator does not yet want to fully divulge. In keeping with that, and also feeling compelled to respond to inquiring minds, one finds himself tip-toeing with words of validation, yet lacking of content.
True, I can keep totally quiet, but I'm too excited and need to vent somewhere!

Sounds good to me...

m also pretty new to this site, and I just came across the Hot Air Intake (K&N Directly onto the Throttle-Body!). For $38 bucks, what the heck! I hope this gizmo makes me regret my purchase. I guess I'll just wait n see....
Cool. I saw your post over in the HAI thread. I chimed-in over there quite early-on as there were previous discussions (threads) where I was hoping Andy would pursue it, and I'm glad that he did.
If it weren't for this M7 intake coming to mkt, I too would have an HAI. The concepts that go into making the HAI a winner are also accounted for in the M7 system, and then some.
For 38 bucks, nothing to regret there! Plus you get time to use it, and that's worth something. And with the removal of some of the stock components, if you do get the M7 system, you'll already have some of the work done already
.
By any chance are you in the Bay Area? I recall somewhere that you are in CA...

Just wanted to let you know where we stand with the "Air Gain System" product releas as of Today.
The AGS main part is a very complicated molded part, the mold it self is made up by 6 seperate parts (six piece mold), the reason for that is that we are
molding in hard points, mounting tabs and and valves.
The other two molded parts are fairly straight forward, but still very important
system parts. The heat shield is a cross linked polymer with a doubble wall construction, giving exemplary heat sheilding allowing very little heat
to migrate to the filter media.
Some other tidbits that I can tell you is that we are moving the TB and to do so a new wiring harnes had to be produced (read more molded parts) and more headaches (I love it) galore.
With all these design and fabrication problems, I hope you understand why it
is taking some time to get the product in your hands.
With all this said I can guarantee a CAI sytem that will far surpass the typical
fair that's being offered to the Mini Comunity at a great price.

Peter,
Hopefully your relocation of the throttle body results in the removal of the existing ugly flow restricting plastic piece. All the small details you've released sound promising in theory but if the tooling isnt done yet, is it safe to say it hasnt been tested yet either?

No theory here, it,s been tested on my car for months as an R$D piece
not pretty, but good enough to tell us that my theory about it's function
was correct.
Two out of the three molded parts are done (molded) the last part will
hopefully be done by end of next week. I'm talking about "first article"
if every thing is up to par, production will start imediatly.

PS. No picture untill we have the final version in our hands.
The price will be less then $300...

Very impressive. Sounds like a lot of work for $300.!! Just think....no more pieces of bent sheet metal and an off the shelf filter at an outrageous price!!!
...cool beans.
Definitely sounds intriguing, and kudos for choosing thermoplastic instead of CF. Making a straight/smooth shot into the supercharger inlet should help to minimize the upstream pressure drop. Are you planning on releasing test data and methods with the product?
Thank you Andy...
Yes we will have tons of data to look at and more, we are lucky enough to be
able to use this incredible filter airflow test rigg, this machine(fully computerized) allows us to dial in engine size, RPM sweeps, particle emissions from filtermedia and more....This allows us to mimic a typical drive cycle, accelerations, deacceleration, full throttle application and more.
This is very exciting for us, as we can show the real difference between
the M7AGS and competing products.

PS. We are also using the best stainless steel T-Bolt clamps to hold together the parts...

This sounds very interesting. My '05 MCS is sailing somewhere on the North Atlantic at the moment and I'm planning some mods soon after I take delivery. Hope details are available soon so I can decide what to get. As someone (long ago) trained as a scientist-type I appreciate your analytical approach. I've noticed something of a lack of that in the MINI aftermarket biz.

I've never had my own business where I've been dependent upon the manufacturing process of another for an end product... Yet, I can now better appreciate all that goes into bringing something like this to market. The reasons and explanations provided certainly make sense, but still frustrating... so many of us want to see the finished product. And after chatting with Peter yesterday, no one more so than him!
I forgot if it was mentioned earlier, after getting clarification yesterday, Peter is indeed pursuing CARB certification on this Air Gain System. Being in CA, this is particularly important
.
If I recall correctly, I think we can thank The Home Depot and some clever part selection for Peter's prototype. Between some testing and road encounters, it was quite obvious a future product was about to be born...

As for install time...if you are handy and got the tools (standard fair) an hour should be enough.

even with the CARB certification, just the fact that the TB is being moved from the stock location kind of bothers me. are there any permanent modifications involved in the install? and will this intake **** off dealers any more than the standard CAIs do, to the point where the relocation of the TB may cause them to void my warrranty, or deny me any warranty-based work like my pulley?

The M7 AGS kit will come with a wireloom extension with molded plugs.
Beleive me the dealer will come down on a pulley change, faster then on this
uppgrade. And besides you can always go back to stock if you wish, with no
holes to fix in the cowl sheilding.
