Drivetrain Operation Hot Air Intake
Obehave,
Word of concern to a friend; if you tape the inside of the tubing, be very carefull. If the tape peels off for any reason, you know where it will end up.
I've been trying to PM you. Your box is full. Scoop is mailing tonight.

Kind thoughts are much appreciated though.
Now about that scoop.
If I Really like it how much begging will it take for you to do me a one off?
Yes I really will send yours back
Thanks again.
Did some ducting around
Well, Tape applied and car driven. Did some mild neighborhood cruising. Can't hear a bit of difference in the car. Sounds a bit different standing if front of the car though.
20/20 hindsight is telling me I should have broken out the video camera

If I told you Id have to kill you
Actually I just put a mild curve to the Al tape and fed it down the tube.Used a dowel rod to tack it down in a few places and get the alignment right.....here comes the clever part
I used my wheel brush to rub it down and get the nice curve. Pressed the wrinkles out with a piece of broom handle I keep lying around.I swear I got 1.3762 HP from this mod. ± 0.26830458 HP :D

Maybe a before/after air pressure test would be more useful
I like the idea of Al tape. Sounds like you had it figured out from the start
So can you describe the sound difference at all?

I had thought it through pretty well but the brush was a last minute deal.
I'd say it seems slightly quieter. That's about all.
This is probably in the .01% bracket. Do enough little ones and it starts to matter. By itself it's almost meaningless.
For me it makes sense and I'll definitely leave it like it is or step up and replace the whole tube with something with "more visual impact"

i doubt i'll bother doing this mod, but i might get something custom made with the bling effect. Something wider and perhaps made out of silicone, and maybe something that angles up to face the alta intake once its in the the bottom of the airbox, to have a sort of ram effect
Ok guys, bear with me please. Ok, I've read 8 of the 21....pages. I'm planning on ordering this intake soon and would like to double check with you all before ordering!
So all I need is a K&N 1550 filter correct? And what is the "breather" tube everyone is saying? Is that a part I need? I thought I just needed to drill into the K&N filter and pop it in...?
Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!

Hrmm, where in my MINI can I find the breather tube now? If I even have one? And if I don't, I need to buy one correct? Part # would help if I need to buy one.
And as for the 1540 vs. the 1550...which one should I go for? I do not want to remove the bonnet lining, so which would be best?
Sorry for all of the noobiness...but I am!
Thanks again guys for all of the help you've provided!

I solved it three different ways...
One was using a small filter on the vent line.
One was lying the hose against the intake filter.
One was using a 90 degree bend and drilling a hole in the bottom of the filter.
The last one is the one I run. While it's not CARB, it is a closed system, which is what is required.... (and all that should be.... But that's another subject entirely....)
All work.

Where is the "vent line" and "breather filter" on my MCS? (MCS is stock).

Since the HAI removes this duct, the vent line is left hanging in the engine compartment.
This description, and a bit of time under the hood should straighten it all out. If not, PM me your email address, and I'll send you some photos. I'd post them but I'm running out of room....
Matt
Oh, and your car currently doesn't have a breather filter. But you should do something with this line after the HAI is installed.
Alright, thanks. I'll try to go and look for it now.
-Cody
Edit* I didn't see it...I'll wait and see if I can find it when I get the HAI.
Edit2* Is there a certain "Neck" or angle I need to get when ordering the 1550 so that it will fit better? I've heard of this before, but from only one person. Anyone?

I did this mod last week and it felt no diff whatsover, i took the back piece of the airbox out as well. The charger sounded a lot louder but that was about it. If anyone wants the filter i will sell it for 20 bucks shipped.
