I'm going to be putting mine on tonight after work. I'll let you guys know. I wouldn't expect an intake to make the car faster, but the SC louder, which is what I want. I mean, it's not like adding an intake will have the same effects as a pully....

Ok, I installed mine and drove maybe 2 miles. I like the sound, but the thing I like the most is how you can hear the TB open/close (is it suppose to be like that?). I honestly was expecting a little difference in the sound, which did not happen. Instead, it's just plain louder, which I still like. I'm wondering how loud it is when your driving by someone. I listened to it with the windows up, sunroof closed, and windows down, sunroof open.

Side note* I CAN'T WAIT until my M7 16% pully! But...that is very far away sadly.....:(

Yes, I'm very happy with it, but I still would rather have an ALTA. But I only spent $35 on this... the ALTA is WAY too much, for me anyway.

I can't wait to drive it tomorrow at 7:00am when the temps are down, so I'll be making more boost (should).

Happy Motoring!

Ok, has anyone been able to find an elbow to plumb the pcv line back in to the filter? I can't find anyone anywhere that's just a standard 3/8" to 3/8" 90 elbow... Currently just using an ugly *** chrome breather filter...

I like my breather filter! I believe Thameth has one, try asking him. And Andy (@ Ross Tech) also had one one his car I believe. I think he's done all three ways.

When I did this way back when, I went to Loews and got a copper elbow with a screw-on fitting to screw onto it. I could have gone crazy with grinding and such, but I decided "if it ain't broke...," so I left them as they were. The fitting with cap on stuck up a bit behind a side of the filter (I plumbed them into the rubber underside, near the neck of the filter); this might have occluded airflow a bit... It wasn't perfect, but it worked. Anyways, I guess "jerry-rigged" is to be expected with a 50 dollar intake...lol! Wasn't an AGS, that's for sure!

Hmm, wonder if they'd have something in high temp pvc, etc specifically for air, i.e. barbed? :-D

McMaster-Carr

For example:

Plenty more where that came from.

I bought a used AGS...

that STILL isn't on my car yet.... , it's a gen 1 though.... Anyway, it has exacly the item you're looking for, barbed on one end and threaded on the other. It's currently installed in my car.....

So now I have the most expensive HAI system out there!

Why didn't I think of McMaster-Carr??? Doh. I tried using a 3/8" tee and capping one end, but it doesn't give me enough length to connect the existing line to it, so I had to cap it off fully on the filter. Ok, I know it's a little larger than 3/8", but is it 1/2"?

Is there any pics of what exactly people have been putting on to this extra line or what not? The plumbing in to the filter etc..

I just received my K&N filter and took a peak under the hood. It seems like the vent line is in front of the engine, yet it looks like people are capping it off behind the filter. Is there a reason for this? Will I need to buy some hose to move it behind the filter? Or did I just not peak well enough?

Just ran out and re-peaked. Huh - amazing how much better you can see in the daylight than in a darkend garage.

What "vent" line are you talking about? If you talking about where to connect the breather filter to, this should help you. Mine sits behind the HAI and is clamped on to the line (the brownish looking line).

i heard someone ask if they should hear the TB open and close, short answer is no, and that is the way i believe it should be on a computer controled car. What that means is that your ignition timing is not where it should be. If you have a distributor on your car, you always going to have it, as the ignition is set up for working under load, so at idle, you will hear it do that. With a computer controling timing, there is no reason that is cant be bang on all the time, meaning that as soon as you hit the gas the engine starts winding up, not hearing the tb open then the engine starting to lumber up in revs. While i was playing with my multi carb, points ignition race motor, i had the ignition set up for brake in as tho it was an on off switch, touch the gas, and the motor would just start screaming, adjust the timing just a fractio of a degree in either direction, and there was tremendous lag in the throtle response. Like i say, there is no reason why a computer shold not be able to achieve this, especially one as advanced as ours (with knock sensors, and variable timing) to be able to have the timing at peak all the time. I guess that is why live tuning is the best, or maybe a stand alone fuel management system, or something. Im aways away from that on my mini, its still to new to start playing with alot of the stuff i want to do on it.

Here is a thought - look at the first photo in polizei's post #529 - there is a hole where the duct was connected, through which you can see the TB. My thought is to funnel the air from this hole directly to the filter. As it is in that photo, you just have an open hole and the air that comes in can go wherever it wants. I need one of you train drivers to come up with a cheap and effective snorkle to direct the air at the filter. I was thinking of using the existing ductwork, but I need the ability to return the car to stock, so butchering the existing duct is not an option - besides, I don't think it would direct the air exactly where it is needed.

Let the games begin.

Another question - is there any performance difference in routing the vent line back into the K&N or giving it it's own filter?
