Custom magnaflow muffler question

Hey guys,

I have a magnaflow muffler I bought a little while back and now I'm looking for tips to put on it. My issue is that I'm not finding what I want. I have a 2.5 inlet and 2.5 outlet oval body 14" muffler. I am sticking with a 2.5" straight pipe replacing my 2nd cat(not going to go with 3", heard stories on it).

I am curious to know will this part 35136(tips) fit with my muffler, part #12158. Thanks guys!

Rob

You have a dual outlet muffler? This is what I found under Magnaflow:

Correct that's the one I have! I just don't know which tips will go good on my muffler. I want the slash ones but I won't be mad if I can't fit it. I found a few on the website but my muffler has the 2.5 outlet while the tips are 2.25. That wouldn't even fit:-/.

I made the right choice going with a 2.5 inlet/outlet over the 3", right?

I think a single outlet would be better, and then use a dual tip....
I dont think the two outlets off the muffler will line up correctly. . .

Rob,

What I'm wondering is if the two tips will fit out the recess in the rear bumper facia. Have you verified this? I've never seen anyone with two separate outlets that far apart before on the R56.

It should work no problem, I have a similar one but with 2.5" inlets and outlets:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/d...rtnumber=12158

I'm using these tips and it all fits perfectly under the bumper:

I want THOSE tips. But quick question, are you running a 2.5" or 3" straight pipe?

Shane,

I've seen many people run the 35121 tips on the mufflers with 4 inch separation. It looks really nice. I just want to get it polished since our roads here in Michigan suck with all the salt and crap.

I went with a 2.5" straight pipe. I think 3" is overkill for a Mini. Plus, the 2.5" matched the size of my Riss downpipe.

Here's a couple of posts where I attached pics. The tips fill out the exhaust cutout perfectly without touching the edges:

Sounds good too!

Shane,

What are you running, a 3" or 2.5" straight pipe? I'm gonna tune the car this spring/summer, I'm just curious what would flow better with the tune.

Keep in mind I was running completely catless and without the stock resonator, so drone was horrible. It sounded great but I couldn't take that amount of drone on the highway.

I added this in as a resonator and it solved the problem:

http://www.moroso.com/catalog/catego...?catcode=35054

Cuts out the drone but still sounds fantastic, low and mean.

Or you could do what I did and buy a JCW downpipe back takeoff for $200. Problem solved.

I'd rather not. I love the sound and minimal gains from the custom exhaust from the magnaflow muffler. I already bought the muffler so it'd be cheaper to do what I want.
