Exhaust shops vs. full exhaust systems Pros and cons?

Hello! I plan on going to a local, reputable exhaust shop to get a custom job done sometime this week. Planning on getting quoted for a one ball mod with a magnaflow muffler for somewhere between 200-300 maybe with custom piping that's lighter than stock?

I'm very curious if there's any huge difference between going the route I'm planning on or just getting a full system at almost triple the cost for the same function and end results.

If anyone has any input on this that would be helpful! thanks!!

Well I'm sure your going to get some varied responses.
But here's mine.

Most high end exhaust systems are developed for optimum flow, nose reduction( when not in throttle), and fitment.
I chose to make an exhaust because I have a welder, pipe bender and SS304 & SS312 lying around.

Is my exhaust better than the Borla....doubtful but I also didn't notice any loss in power...just in car conversation abilities.

So yes it is worth it to extract every last HP but not necessary if you don't mind sacrificing what's lost in the cost of the other companies R&D time...which is basically perfecting the system.

I do wish sometimes I went with a retailer.
But I love the sound of a single glaspack on this motor especially the famed BURBLE I get everytime I let off

The choice is yours mate
Just know not every exhaust builder can build a developed system so make sure you have a reputable shop do it ...if you go that route.

I agree with Spencer Roper. An exhaust shop is just throwing parts at the car and hoping for the best. It could all work out, but it is a gamble. If the gamble is worth it to you to save money, that's fine. Whatever you end up with, make sure to post a video so we can hear it.

I'm feeling that most people will be biased based on their own path haha. That's a smart way to go, if i had the tools and knowledge I would do that too. My friend took his GP and his dad's Z06 to the place I'm planning on so things should turn out well. Thanks for the response!

Like I said earlier the shop I'm going to should give me a quality job with a magnaflow muffler in the one ball mod. I'll keep ya'll posted with what they're doing and the end result!

some companies have the R&D but that's mostly for the piping for fitment and the muffler itself

so if you take company "A" muffler, theres a good change they use that in some full system that they have developed. including all the fitment.

also large companies have mandrell benders and create the jungle that is needed especially for our cars. whereas muffler shops don't have a mandrell bender, so you do loose some flow in corners. plus the piping is mostly there, just put in a new muffler.

if your looking for the performance, youll get more with a kit, but the muffler is the thing that allows the better flow from stock to aftermarket. you wont feel the difference
