Factory JCW muffler

I just bought a 2012 R58 JCW. It's seems to be "too" quiet and I do not get any type of pops n burbles...How do I know that the exhaust/muffler is actually the factory JCW? I have the part number stamped on the muffler...can anyone tell me if that confirms that it is the original part?
The numbers are:
7 635 742
09 11
82062401
GB
650584 10

Yep,

that sounds like the exhaust right here: 18307646678

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/18307646678/

After you warm up and run the car for a while with the N14 JCW engine it will get louder and then hit the sport button and it pops and bangs.

On the N18 JCW 2013+ it pops and bangs more then the N14 version.

Yea, if its a true factory JCW R58 it should pop and bang once warmed up and in sport mode, I can get mine to pop and bang some once warmed up , say , 10 mins or so without sport, rev it up and let of really quick.

Otherwise u would have to cut out the factory res ( replace with straight pipe ) if you want it louder.

N14 JCW

N18 JCW

So I had the exhaust resonator removed today...that thing was over 2 ft long! Anyway, sounds a little be better, especially at higher RPMs. Still waiting to hear more snaps, crackles, and pops!

You can see the Sport mode indicator near the center of the tach.

If you are driving at a constant speed, you may not hear any popping from the exhaust at all.

Let us know what happens when you downshift

You are right and thanks to the Mini guys it is just in sport mode.

As far as I am concerned, it is a good think because not all Mini owners want to have this backfire feature all the time.

Well, I guess my 2012 JCW is not a backfire kinda car! I just heard a few on a high rpm (5k) downshift (not something I want to do much).
:(

You should have the noise. Warm it up 15-20 min, hit the sport button. Stop at light of stop sign or on the side of the road. Rev is up 4k+ and let off really quick of course out of gear, foot on brake. . You should hear it. I can hear mine all the time. Roll down the windows.

Roll the windows down. My muffler is pretty quiet I think but I do hear some burbles esp with them down. Heck with the straight pipe that thing should sound good.

Maybe I am expecting too much! I jumped from a LOUD 96 Trans Am to a Coupe JCW...so I should be listening more intently!

So if I wanted to have my muffler shop get the most throaty sound like in that video...what am I having the remove/replace? I have a 2014 Mini Coupe JCW.

FYI, In the State of Illinois it is illegal to touch the cat conv.

Resonator in the #2 video above, then put in straight pipe. Some states are really touchy about exhaust in general, so check things out first.

Had the resonator removed and my lil JCW coupé and it sounds awesome! It is not a drastic change, just more pop and gurgle when the sport button is on, which I love...not that it didn't do it before, but now it goes crazy!!

I"m always a fan of a bigger downpipe exhaust. i have a 2013 S Coupe and had the factory s exhaust but then upgraded to the ALTA JCW 3" Downpipe exhaust. i don't think cat's are touched on this setup, i had my mini garage/shop do the install. love how deep my Bonnie sounds, esp in the cold weather.

I get burble and popping after my engine is warmed up to about 165F and to activate them all i have to do is feather the gas pedal at around 2100 and 4200 rpms. here's my baby and just parked burbling and a few pops..

I am getting used to my (resonator delete) exhaust sound. Although I don't hear much cracks & pops; I think that it is a nice sound.
I took the Coupe JCW on the wonderful Inde track in Wilcox AZ this Sunday and with the windows down (even with the helmet) the exhaust sound was loud enough to let me know how the car was doing.

BTW, I loved my Trans AM, but on the track the MINI rules! I may have lost 230+ HP and that deep sound BUT I gain so much more!! Those Brembo brakes and that crazy-glue handling made my day! I had a BLAST! I truly believe that I made the right move. That JCW Coupe is a real track car.

2012 vs. 2014

Unfortunately, I think the 2014 JCWs pop and gurgle more than the 2012s. I have had both and this has been my experience.

It does, my 12' N14 JCW does not pop and bang like the 2013+ N18 JCW
