So the teardown begins

So I have put it off long enough, I am finally going to upgrade my turbo, install my manifold, add water meth, and install the Detroit tuned turbo oil lines. After all of this I am going to have it tune up by Jan at RMW for hopefully a decent boost in power. It shouldn't take me that long do get it set up but, the turbo is going to take the longest as I have to send it in to have it rebuilt and wait for it to be sent back. I am going to start tomorrow and take my time doing this at my buddy's house. I will snap some photos on the way through the tear-down and install.

So I started today and was able to remove the turbo. If we weren't having such a good time hanging out it would have taken like an hour and a half but, we were drinking, showing off, and talking guns. Real good time when you spend it with friends. Here are some crappy cell phone pictures but, you guys get the gist.

This is what happens when you get us country folk together we drink and start fires. I am seriously on a high right now. I won't be able to get back to it till Wednesday because my buddy is going to be out of town.

Exactly what upgrade is G-pop Turbo going to do to the stock turbo? I know this has been mentioned before in some other discussions, but I've never seen a complete concise summary of the work to be completed. Do you have the answers?

  • Is the stock MCS turbo a K03?
  • Does your upgraded turbo have better specs than the JCW turbo?
  • What is the size of the exhaust turbine and compressor impeller and how much larger over stock?
  • Are the exhaust and compressor housings different?
  • Is there a build spec number that G-pop referenced so others can use this number to quickly upgrade their turbos?
  • Price quoted by G-pop?

All of your questions should be answered there.

It really wasn't that bad getting it out of there not in service mode. We only had trouble with 2 bolts. The only thing that has got me is the heat shield and having to drain the coolant. I really don't like draining coolant in cars at all.

How many miles are on your engine?

I don't mean to p1ss on your parade, but aren't you worried about the reliability with boosting the stock bottom end with a upgraded turbo?

I have 91k on it. No not really. If I pop the motor I pop the motor, just means I have to start over.

Yep I am single at the moment. Plus with a good tune and water/meth I am not really to worried about frying the engine.

Glad I'm not too late to the party...

So after a year or so of keeping us waiting you are finally doing something to your motor! Its about time quite honestly. I cant wait to see the outcome.

Oh, in case you didnt know 99% of women are crazy (thats what makes them so much fun). But as my dad said "Women are like Ferrari's: Even though they are nice to look at and fun to play around with, their too damn expensive, their nothing but problems, and they will leave you sitting on the side of the road first chance they get."

Yeah for once I have the money and the time to work on my car plus the last year went by super fast. Also there is "typical" women crazy then there is the ones that seek me out that are "certifiable" crazy.

Oh yeah and there is no backing out on this one because the turbo is out it is just waiting to be shipped off. Which hopefully will be tomorrow but, most likely will be Wed.
