My New Exhaust Idea! (Tell me what you think)

Ok guys, so I've been mulling over some exhaust options for my 05 CS. I've done a few other light mods so I think it's time to get this bad boy breathing a little more. So heres the idea...

I go to a local muffler shop and get a quote on cutting out BOTH the muffler and resonator (so no one balling here haha). Then I'm going to buy a glasspack muffler (the straight through cylinder style). I haven't decided the brand yet. I would have the shop weld the glasspack inline a few inches past the 2nd cat and simply run straight piping to the tips.

How do you guys think this would sound? I'm looking for something with a little more burble and bite. ALSO, what are my options with exhaust tips, because lets face it factory JCW tips are not worth 200 dollars haha.

Shoot me a reply, I would love to hear some comments/ideas!

Cheers,
Cameron

i had a very similar set up to what you want to do. instead of having one glasspack right after the cat, i had 2 glasspacks where the resonator and muffler sit. i had a y pipe split the pipes into the glasspacks then straight back out the tips. i wouldnt suggest this unless you like drone and noise. it doesnt have a specific tone to it. its just a bunch of noise and HEAVY drone.

Yeah I was afraid of that loud drone :/ Do you have any reccomendations as to a cheap way to get a good sound? I really wish I could just buy some stratmosphere or invidia mufflers by themselves and have them welded in

What is your definition of cheap? Personally ive looked at almost all the options and the best bet is to wait for an exhaust to pop up in the market section of the forums. I see a lot of great exhausts there. I've seen 2 alta exhaust sell I the last month. I've seen an invidia one sell too. Your best bet is to just wait for one to go on sale. Or if you are impatient, like me lol, you can take a plunge at the obx exhaust. It's about 300 bucks if I'm no mistaken. It's not a perfect fit but once you get all the parts pieced together nicely it is a great exhaust. It's the super sprint knock off. The only problem is that it's not a full cat back exhaust you would have to cut and clamp/weld the y pipe to the stock piping after the cat.

Prepare to get ear plugs!
I had a Jetta, replaced with only a DTM style muffler. It was so loud it wasn't funny! Had to go over 80 MPH before it was tolerable. "Sorry officer, but......"

Well I've decided on my exhaust system and I'll pick it up at the end of this month, I'm goin to buy two of the borla zx-1 bullet style mufflers and have them welded in. They sound amazing, I'll post a link to a video with a macs that has the setup when I'm not in class haha

Nope, it would definitely make it quieter. Glasspacks are loud, but only if they are the only muffler used, whenever you add a muffler/resonator it will decrease the decibel level. The only exception I can think of is the SLP Loudmouth resonators and they are literally straight through, they just open up the diameter of your tubing (so 2.25" would go to 3").

These are most likely the mufflers I will use. A competent muffler shop shouldn't have a problem welding from a 2.25 to a 2.5 and honestly it shouldn't cost more than 100 dollars for an exhaust shop to cut off the old ones and weld on these new ones. So all in all you are looking at an exhaust system for about 450 dollars!

i did it with mine as well. Even with a tortuous path, and a resonator (vibrant ultra quiet_ just after the second cat, and TWO MORE in a loop at the back (all in line) it was still race-car levels loud and irritating as HELL on the interstate.
Not enjoyable at all.
It would be fun for ~ 30 seconds as you laughed as to how ridiculously loud our supercharged motors are, but then you just want it to stop.

It will have LOADS of burble and pop though.

my current set up still has a good bit though.

obx header -> high flow pace setter metallic core catalyst -> 2.5" i/o vibrant ultraquiet resonator post cat -> piping to the back into a magnaflow 2.5" left in, center out straight though muffler (magnaflow 11366) and out some corvette C6 style dual 3.5" tips

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCyav...8_0mbk2kI_T603

what i described is the "cutout open" portion of the vid.
I kept eating cutout motors (brass gears would strip) so i just deleted the silencing loop. (long story)
no drone on the interstate at 80, but 50 is the most pleasurable driving speed. (good windows down speed too)
and it sounds great under acceleration, but not too loud in the cabin. You can still tell you have a supercharger (the "straight pipe" was so loud i couldn't hear the whine out of a pullied alta intake.... )
