15% pulley/CAI w/ stock plugs?

Is there any issues with running stock spark plugs with 15% pulley & CAI? I searched it and it seems that it wouldn't be an issue, what do you guys/gals think?

Thanx, Art

I ran my 17% cai and catback on stock plugs for more than a year. never a problem. Changed them just before getting a tune and wished I had done it over a year ago. made a nice noticeable difference in performance especially in the higher rpms.

Fine...folks in warmer area found pinging on hot days, and started using the cooler plugs..same as the jcw ones with a pulley...so it just makes sense, but many ran stock...
One word of wisdom...the jcw cars get new plugs at each service...about 30,000 miles, due to a harsher time in the combustion chamber...so changing as often on a pullied s seems to make sense.

We always recommend installing the cooler heat range plugs with a pulley install. One of the things we've found that makes us always use them is that when we get core heads from selling our WMW race heads back. We've found cracks around the spark plugs in the head on heads that had stock plugs. The heads using cooler plugs didn't have cracks.

I do have the "colder" plugs but my car is running rich and my local mini repair shop recommend running the stock plugs even with the smaller pulley.

I've been reading alot about the different SC pulleys and crank pulleys. Okay, some say 15% and some say 17%. I have an 06 R53, and supposedly it has a lighter crank pulley from the factory. What would be the difference if I went to a 15% SC pulley and then added the 2% crank. or just go with the 17% crank pulley from the start? I've also seen 16% pulleys advertised.

Alta, Cravens, Madness motor works, WMW, KAVS, TMS, etc. Stainless steel vs. Aluminum. So many choices> What to do.

Any personal exp. feedback would be great

your "local" shop can recommend anything they want, but they are WRONG. Just think JCW engineers figured out they needed cooler plugs with 13lbs of boost, so why wouldn't you need it with a 15% pulley?

Also why do you think your car is rich? And because the exhaust tips are black is not a good answer. If your running a stock ECU tune then it is slightly rich, but that is safe lean is not.

Don't go with a lightweight crank pulley, it is too hard on oil pumps and crank bearings. The 05-06 crank pulley is almost 3lbs lighter than the 02-04 that is what is meant by you having a lighter pulley already.

If your not sure between 15 and 17 just go with the 17%, otherwise you'll always wonder what if? We only recommend SS pullies as they are more reliable, expand at the same rate as the supercharger, also there is no corrosion of dis similar metals like with aluminum.
I obviously recommend our WMW pulley as we have installed over 400 pullies and with our experience with did our own design to make installation easier, and more reliable. Ask around you'll find we have many happy customers.

Way, Thanks for the advice. Who makes WMW pulleys? The belts for $30. What brands do you offer? What makes an M7 pulley worth $32 more? Money aside and since you carry all 3, what would you recomend between WMW, M7, and Craven?

I will be doing a CAI soon, but still researching those options. Thanks again

Anyone else out there have any input on this??
