My car is only 3 months old and its already starting to feel a little sloopy. it has about an inch of side to side movement, and a half inch front to back movement. I think its just the bushings that are really cheap, but maybe not. Should i be able to have the dealer replace the bushings? it seems to be defective. And maybe i can have them put the B&M bushings in there while they are at it. what are your thoughts?

the MCS's shifter isn't quite the smooth/solid shifter as one may come to
expect. My car has some slop too, not sure how much as I haven't measured it
but there is some play. You may want to look into shortshifters too.

220hp without a smaller pully? hummmmm...

Nitrous? maybe. Turbo swap? I can't see it happening on all motor upgrades. Love to see it, but doubt it.

The MCS shifter is..... after worn in a bit ... " loose & sloppy "...... to to say it mildly.

I've added a B&M short shifter and it's what the car "should be "...

It's a tedious install... time consuming for sure... but well worth the final results

i think they are all a bit sloppy. a couple of months after i got my car, i cut 2 1/4" off the shaft. recently, i cut off an additional 7/8".

it feels like a different car, with much less slop. there is a thread about this on mini2, entitled something like "DIY short shifter."

Since the transmission is connected to the shifter by cables it can only be so tight. I installed the B&M shifter and it's very tight now. About what I'd expect from a RWD car with the shifter directly on the transmission. Stock shift box uses rubber mounts that add play to the system. B&M replaces those with solid bushings to reduce play.

Try to accept that NOTHING is going to improve your stock shifter.....certainly not the dealer. The only improvement will come from installing a new shifter. As already
suggested, the B&M short shifter feels wonderful......the **** is fine......and if you get one your frustration will be gone forever.

i just measured the freeplay and throw of my 3 1/8" shorter shifter. all are measured at the maximum horizontal girth of the shift ****:

in neutral, side to side total play = 0.15"

in neutral, fwd - aft total play = 0.04"

throw forward from neutral to first = 1.2"

unfortunately, i didn't take these with the stock length shaft for comparison.
