Mine was a hard fit with the alta hard pipe but once you get everything settled and worked out it's perfect. Now it's a better fit than my stock pipe was.

I don't think you'll have any problem getting used to the noise

did you have any problems with the stock inlet constantly slipping off with the DOS intake before you got the alta hard pipe?

I was wondering if anyone had tried that yet. Seems like it wouldn't bend enough (or at all since it's metal). I like the idea of the hard pipe though.

Got any pics?

I used the the hoses to make up the misalignment, not a good solution really. I'll probably have to remove/exchange something and/or go back to the original setup. I'll get some photos.

My original tube was slipping quite a bit and went to the hard pipe...haven't had to worry about it since. My alignment really isn't THAT bad. A little bend at one of the silicon joints but I can't complain. I'll take some pics as well and post them up later.

I couldn't get the Alta turbo inlet hard pipe to fit flush on the turbo spigot ,but the set screws did have bite.

Thinking about a Samco Inlet hose to replace the hard pipe, because I'm getting addicted to the great big sucking sound and the blow off

When I first installed my DOS CAI, i had the stock MCS inlet which tore and needed to be replaced. When I replaced it I returned everything, except the pre-cut bulk head panel, to stock. After conversing with Clint from DOS, he advised to either go with the JCW hard inlet or a SAMCO hose. I ultimately decided to do the JCW hard inlet and the narrow t-bolt clamp and have not had any issues since.

No I did not buy a new CAI. The Alta inlet was one I was considering, however I talked to Clint and told him the brands I was considering (Alta, Samco, and stock JCW), he told me he would go with either the stock JCW hard inlet or the Samco inlet.

I know the question was originally asked about the Alta inlet, I just wanted to chime in regarding what DOS advised when I was faced with misalignment and subsequent tearing of my stock MCS inlet.

Maybe consider selling the Alta in the marketplace and then purchasing an inlet with better fitment for the DOS CAI??

I'm deciding between the alta hard tube and the samco tube because my inlet tubes have all been slipping off after installing the DOS intake, even with the t-bolt clamp
I have tried oem tube, oem jcw tube, and alta silicone tube
tried everything Clint suggested, no luck

maybe your engine is rockin' too much, and pullin' stuff apart. Do you have NM inserts or a BSH motor mount?

I do have the Mini Madness inserts
But it was fine with stock intake and even when I was just running a slap on k&n cone filter off the oem inlet

I might have to try reproduce that alignment, loosen everything up and try to get that nice!

Thats about what mine looks like, I have the Alta inlet and DoS intake. I was nervous about the fit at first, but then loosened everything and straightened it more, then we tightened. Nothing has loosened or fallen off yet.

Did your hard pipe come with a silicon connector like that? The bubble is built in to give you flexibility...I slid it pretty far back on the tube to make sure the bubble would be between the tube and the intake allowing me to have the flexibility. I actually have two hard pipes from Alta (long story) but they both came with the connector.

I think the JCW prefactory JCW intake(the good one ) allows the engine to rev freeier than the DOS. Just a seat of the pants observation, I hope to do some data logging with my AP soon.Maybe I need a tune tweak .

I honestly didn't think there was a Gen 2 JCW intake available.

2007-2008 R56 JCW intake ( big cylinder shaped filter, the same filter or just like the gen 1JCW's but the housing is without the goofy flap and no cowl intake

Ahh yes thanks, I have run across that in my quest for a new CAI but I think I was confusing that with the older Gen 1 version. Brain fart on my part.

Initially the dry filter will only be available as a separate retrofit part for our CAI kits. We will offer a dry filter version of the CAI in June.

DoS will have the dry filters up on the website starting the week of 6/11/12!

Thanks for checking-in and have a great weekend.
