I'm down for the Whole Cai.
Debating if I should buy now or wait for the dry filter.
Has anyone had problems with the Filter that comes with the Dos Cai ?
Thanks Clint

What are you running?
Pretty much exactly what I'm running, but I recently changed to a 0.8mm jet. I think I've got more top end, but obviously there's no point speculating without a dyno. I'm going to do some extensive testing as soon as I sort my engine issues out.

I run roughly 1 o'clock threshold, and around 10 o'clock gain. Again, I'm constantly changing these settings, but I will find out what settings work when I have access to a dyno.

Hey Clint,

When the dry filter becomes available, I'll definitely buy a kit for my R58 S!

Keep me in the loop, please!

easy install?

I'm guessing the install is pretty straightforward (other than cutting the firewall)? Anything particularly difficult? Thanks.

Don't have one but I've only heard/read good things from owners and mechanics about how clean the install is.

Did the install about 3 or 4 months ago and it was very straightforward. The directions are crystal clear. The only issue I had was removing an elbow connection from the stock intake feed going from the front of the car to the stock box. I just couldn't get the deng thing off and ended up just cutting one of the plastic clips being that I wasn't going to use that part with the new intake anyway.

The most difficult part is definitely the bulkhead but even that wasn't too bad.

Sorry for what i'm sure are repeat and/or completely moronic questions:
Anyone got/use/recommend the hydrophobic wrap? Any wet filters out there?
I guess the dry cone filter they have listed won't fit their intake?
To baffle or not to baffle? - I'm thinkin' not.
If you were to install again, would you buy the precut bulkhead?
Why am I so excited about this?

No problems here yet, even though I haven't been running it for so long but I have run K&N filters in the past for years with no issues.

There are a lot of guys on here that have been running the DoS intake for a long time without any problems. As long as you follow the directions when cleaning the filter and you don't over oil it you should be fine.

I think if it was problematic we would've seen a thread or two about it by now.

We finally found a vendor that has agreed to make a dry filter for the DoS CAI. We are awaiting pricing from them. Once the pricing is in, we'll receive a prototype to test fitment and we're off to the races.

I know that it's been a LONG wait, but I'll keep you posted as production gets in motion.

Don't have any CAI or filter group buys planned for this year.

Trying to figure that out at present. Need to skip AMVIV this year, so I may fly out.

I'll definitely be buying one of these once the dry filter get finalized and included in the kit. I've resisted the mod bug for almost a year, I'm hoping the sounds from this will sate it for a while , I mean, there's always the chance that it won't just feed the bug and make it stronger.....right?

anyone have issues with the stock turbo inlet tube coming loose after installing the intake?
I've tried every possible way suggested lol and mine just keeps coming off from the turbo inlet
don't get me wrong, love this intake, other than my stock inlet tube just won't stay on

My bone stock intake does that. I removed it to install a boost tap and Forge DV and now it slips. It's weird.

Here's what we recommend for customers who are having troubles with the OEM intake tube slipping off the turbo:
  1. Loosen and remove the OEM hose clamp from the turbo inlet.
  2. Pull the OEM intake hose from the turbo inlet and remove the rubber bushing from the turbo inlet.
  3. Grab a shop rag and thoughly clean the turbo inlet, inside of the OEM intake hose and the inside + outside of the rubber bushing with denatured alcohol or brake cleaner. (Two cleanings may be required to get all the oil residue off of these parts.)
  4. Reverse the steps above & reassemble.

If the hose still will not stay on the turbo inlet, we also recommend the following:
  • Use a DoS Narrow T-Bolt Clamp at the turbo instead of the OEM clamp. It provides greater clamping force than the OEM part.

    -- . . . AND/OR, in extreme cases . . .

  • After cleaning the hose parts,:
    1. remove the intake hose from the turbo.
    2. Put a shop rag in the turbo inlet port.
    3. Use a fine-to-medium grit Scotchbrite pad to more deeply clean and improve the 'grippy-ness' the outside of the turbo inlet hose mating surface.
    4. Clean the outside of the turbo inlet with denatured alcohol or brake cleaner.
    5. Remove the rag from the turbo and reassemble.

Just thought I'd share what has worked for me in the past.

My inlet hose was slipping as well and I tried the above to no avail (however, I never tried the narrow clamp). I ended up ordering a hard pipe from Alta and that thing is NEVER slipping off. It's kinda pricey but you will never have to worry about it again. Intake and pipe have been on for about a half a year now and I'm still in love with the system.

Installed my intake this weekend, and I'm loving the way it sounds! Not sure how much the numbers actually improved, but it's convinced the butt-dyno that the car pulls a little harder, and when it comes down to it (so long as the car isn't actually slower) isn't that what really matters?

I'm very excited to announce that our selected filter vendor has just completed our first dry filter prototype for the DoS R56-thru-R59 MCS & JCW CAI. The project manager for our filter efforts just sent me this filter pic from his desk. We should have samples in hand no later than Friday.

A LOT of customers really want an oil-free filter option for the DoS CAI. Unfortunately, we had A LOT of hassle in trying to find a vendor that could manufacture the exact filter that we wanted. It was quite a journey, but I'm so excited

This filter will fit differently but is a retrofit part for the current DoS CAI. I'll post details on NAM & "that other forum" in the near future.

Product to be released in May 2012 and we will be taking pre-orders in mid-April.
