I just installed my exhaust this past Sat. and it went well. I followed Randy's instructions and it was not too hard, except I did it by myself, and a couple of times could of used another set of hands. Well the tips on my Borla are sticking out about an inch and a half when cold, and even more when hot. I think that I read somewhere where someone said their tips were flush with the rear bumper, and I was just wondering how they managed to do that, becuase I can't seem to figure out where to adjust. The mufflers themselves can only go in one position under the rubber hangers, and then the tips adjust off of those. Any help would be great.

By the way, the sound is awesome, even my girl friend loves the new sound, and she doesn't really like loud cars too much. The sound is louder than stock, but not so loud that it is unbearable or that you can't hold a normal conversation in the car. I love this exhaust, the tone is really deep, and I haven't really heard any drone yet, we'll see

Cheers,

Ryan

Just rubbing it in, aren't you? I can't wait to get this group buy over with so I can get mine up and installed too.

As for the tips, I never heard about them fitting flush. My Borla street was not flush and probably stuck out close to an inch or so. I could just read the Borla on the top of the tips.

Someone was able to get the Magnaflow to be flush, but I believe they had to some cutting.

Helix carries and recommends both Borla exhausts and are experts at installing it. I'd give Eric a call.

Ryan,
Installed my Borla Sport (the one w/small cans, some people call it race) last month. The tips protrude an inch or two and that is just the way I wanted it.If you get it to close to flush it gets too loud inside. To bring the tips in closer you can loosen the clamp on the straight pipe just forward of the Y pipe and slide the cans forward , you have about an inch of play on the hangers that hold those brackets on the cans. Hope that helps a little bit.
If you think it sounds good now wait till you burn that puppy out a little. Mine sounds much better now tha when I installed it. That is one of the reasons it's a good idea to keep those tailpipes protruding an inch or so.

thanks guys for all the useful info. This is why the MINI community is so cool, everyone helps each other out. I looked at my tips again, and saw that they stick out about one inch, so it seems that I am in line with everyone else here. cfoley, thanks for the advice on how to move them in, but your'e probably right that it is better to have them stick out a little to lesson the interior sound. I love this mod so much!!! I've never been so excited to start a car up before.

At the last Autox event someone had a Borla Street exhaust that was mounted flush. My Borla Race sticks out about 2". I loosend the aft center pipe clamp and knocked it in about 3/4 of an inch to get it closer in. I think the best I can do is another half inch by loosening the front clamp before the hangers will start wanting to pull it more aft. My goal is to have the "Borla" logo on the top of the tips just outside the bumper for the best look. I don't think it looks good nor was designed to be installed flush.

Now all you need is a header like Minibeast and you can wake the neighbors. It's amazing how this system has a nice loud, but not too loud sound, but add a header and BOOM!
