To be honest I am not so sure anymore. Me and another member have been having issues with exhaust smoke at idle. He removed his PCV delete and OCC and the problem went away. I have been running a solid turbo intake so my PCV has been venting to a filtered catch can. We think that pressur emay be building up in the crank case and venting through the turbo oil lines. Still researching at the moment though.

Anyone with similar experience?

Have you tried plugging it back in and doing an update again? That might work, otherwise you may have to reboot the AP, which there is a way to do with the AP Manager, you'll have to get a hold of COBB about how to do that though.

thank you Chris!
I have sent an email to Cobb; waiting for reply.
I'll probably call them in couple of days.

Plugging it back in doesn't work the AP manager doesn't recognize it being connected. Hopefully they can reboot the device without sending it to them.
Also hope it's not a problem that it's currently "married".

Thanks for your help again Chris!

I had issues the first time I plugged my AP into my computer. I narrowed it down to my USB 3.0 ports. When I plugged it in to the 2.0 ports on the back of my pc, it worked fine. You can reference my original posts on page 112 here Not sure if this helps.

thanks for the input and thoughts
unfortunately, my computer (built by me) doesn't even have USB 3.0 ports.
Also, my AP was working fine until that beta-firmware-update problem.
still waiting for COBB to reply email.
Probably will call them in couple of days.
Car is running perfectly fine (except for different smell from vent when in stage 1 compared to stock).

So is it typical for performance to drop back down after a week of driving with the new tune? Does the ECU re-adjust it self for safety reasons? Here's my experience based on my Scangauge readings:

2012 JCW
aftermarket turbo, catless DP, Alta FMIC, DOS CAI, JCW exhaust w/ Resonator removed and replaced w/ straight pipe, Intake muffler delete.

Before the tune: Boost would briefly peak at 19 then the ECU would take over and knock it down to 16. Peak HP apx 210

For the first couple days after the tune (91 octane stage 3): Boost was peaking at 26. HP was hitting 270.

1 week later: boost will not go higher than 22 but it gets there almost immediately and stays there. HP peaks at 230

Again these are based on my Scangauge, not a real dyno, but should give a decent comparison.

I think that the ecu is getting used to the 91 octane. There's something on the perrin blog about how that happens

When you install the tune it resets the ecu. The ecu relearns your driving habits and adjusts the timing to prevent knock and detonation.

Yeah as he said, it definitely adapts and will pull boost / timing to reduce the risk of detonation

For example on my 135i I have the dinan tune which raises boost from around 8.8 to 13.2 which always runs fine on 93 oct

I stacked a tmap unit w that to add more boost and run about 16 psi now. With 93 it pulls a bit of timing up top but when I throw in a few gallons of e85 and reset the ecu it stays fast

No power after map change.

chris
i have the access port on 09 JCW running stage 1 w/92 octane. went to upgrade to stage 2 tune and the car will not respond to tune. feels like it did w/o any tune at all. it did say that that the car accepted the tune. i have two bulbs burnt out, (fog and parking), and took the bulbs out for replacement at a later time. this is when the car felt anemic. the car was running very strong on the stage 1 tune with the bulbs burnt out and still installed. could the bulbs not being in the circuit cause this sort of an anomaly with the access port? i do have an amber warning light for the bulbs being burnt out. weird huh?

Trackntrail,

Just replied to your PM. The bulbs won't have an effect on the tune at all, so you won't have to worry about that.

Oh hell.
I just picked up my 07 MCSm JCW from the dealer after they replaced my failing HPFP. I first uninstalled the AP before taking it in. They even did a carbon cleaning as part of the free replacment program but I saw at the bottom of the ticket it said:

"Reprogrammed Claim #47350838"

The car didn't seem to have the same get up and go as the normal stock JCW tune was before I brought it in.
I then installed the Stage 1 MCS FMIC non-tps 91 Oct like I had before.
This is when I noticed it said my ECU type was H910B. It used to be H520B. So what does this mean exactly? Did they reprogram my ECU to be a standard MCS without the JCW tune? I will need to call them monday if no one knows here. Thanks.

The ECU number in my 2010 MCS is H910B. I don't know if the ECU for a JCW and an MCS could be the same.

Speaking of asking the same questions over and over, I've read through about 8 pages and can't find what I'm looking for, but it's probably the simplest/dumbest question in the world.

Is anyone still making/selling the Accessport for the R56? I sold mine a few years back for financial reasons, now I'm back in the game, but it's looking like it's been discontinued?

True?

Ok, the dealer says they updated the ECU to the latest rev which is H910B. They said this does not affect the original JCW Kit Tune from 2007. That is a separate thing still inside the ECU (and I assume saved by the AP when I install a different one).

Why I had an older ECU type# of H520B I'm not sure, since I've been to the dealer many times since 2007. Is H910B something very recent?

Anyone know if this info is correct or are they blowing smoke?

When my timing chain let go in late 2011, the dealer updated the ECU SW from H520B to H810B --- '07 MCS. Had to get new AP maps with the new prefix. Minor update for Alta --- all handled via email and only down for 2 days.

My guess is that the H910B is just a later version than the H810B. Dealer said they wouldn't fix my chain issue without upgrading the SW. Probably a factory requirement for warranty repairs to have the latest SW installed. No complaints 'cause the H810B had a fix for "torque steer" included. Big improvement on hard 1st & 2nd gear acceleration.

Quite interesting. Thank you. I do believe the torque steer has improved! Also after applying my usual AP map, I no longer seem to have the rpm surge on shifting that used to plague me. Yet it still has plenty of power and getting up to 21 psi boost.

My 2010 Clubman S is in the shop for timing chain issue and carbon cleaning. I'm pretty sure they will recommend updating the ECU software afterward. Of course, the AP is uninstalled now and I will reinstall it when I get the car back. My question is, what do I need to do to assure that I can reintall the AP with the new ECU programming?

Is the ECU version purely software based, and not hardware based?
