This probably is a really stupid question, but I've read through many pages and see most sigs with either MCS or JCW. So what if I have a 2007 MCS with the Stage 1 dealer installed JCW package? I have no other mods except lower suspension and 18" wheels. Will I see a benefit using the AP with a Stage 1 91 octane map?

I need to be clear on whether I need to specify 2007 MCS Hardtop or 2007 JCW hardtop when ordering - is JCW meaning only factory JCW?

The JCW/MCS question is best left to Alta. My opinion is that you will notice the difference without fail on your car. Mine is an 08 MCS, stock engine, and the improvement is immediate. The delay in the throttle pedal is greatly reduced, and there is a nice surge of midrange torque.

Have fun,
Mike

Much appreciated! I may have to call them and ask to be sure. Just not clear whether the AP maps differentiate between Factory JCW or JCW Kit.

Just curious if you still use your "sport" button, with your AP . I need to press mines everytime I drive, as throttle response is really slow without it. I'm still waiting for my AP to arrive.....

There are 2 modes in a map. Linear(aka tps) and standard.

In my experience, the tps map doesn't do anything with throttle sensitivity. It just activates the more firmer steering settings.

The standard map, it does activate the throttle sensitivity. I personally do not use the sport button anymore unless during spirited driving since the throttle is very sensitive. I use the non tps version since I wanted to feel the surge of power when put my foot on the pedal.

Hope this helps.

The TPS map has more linear non-sport throttle activation. Sport mode is still more linear but its less noticeable because of the huge difference between the stock throttle map.

My car is an auto, and has the factory throttle mapping. The sport button makes the throttle too twitchy and sensitive for me with the AP.

I have an 08 MCS with Stage 1 dealer install JCW. Recently added the AP and there is a very large increase in power and torque. I love it. Installing an intercooler this week and then will go to Stage 2 on the AP. I am running the 92 octane map.

Are you planning on going to stage 2 without a downpipe?

You'll need more than an intercooler for stage 2.

Thank You to all that answered. I guess I have to install the AP and try to see which way works out better. I was told to run the Linear map, but was hoping that it would help with the sensitivity. Its a pain to press the button everytime the car is restarted..

downpipe

Does the installation of a downpipe increase the exhaust noise by much? I installed a 3" downpipe back system, and its aleady too loud for me. Really wanted to run a stage II but was told that a dowpipe and exhaust is needed..Thanks again......

That's good to hear. I might go for it if I can convince myself to spend all that money.

With just the intercooler, you can use the Stage 1 FMIC map but not Stage 2 without adding the full 3" catback exhaust.

I have a feeling I'll need to add an OCC once I get the AP to prevent worsening carbon build up. It's bad enough with the JCW mod as it is.

If you read back in this thread, you'll see that a 2 1/2" catless down pipe and a 2 1/2" cat back exhaust, along with an oversized intercooler, will work with for a stage three tune.

AccessPORT update November, 27th 2012

We wanted to take a moment to let the NAM community know that...

It is with a heavy heart that we must tell everyone that the AccessPORT is dead. We have been informed that the AccessPORT for the R56 will no longer be produced by COBB Tuning and as such the remaining inventory we have on our shelves will be the last available for purchase. If you are interested in one for your car, please order one right away! This is not an attempt to temporarily boost sales, and we do not expect current supply to last through the end of the year.

Many of you will ask "Why?" and thankfully the answer is pretty simple:

1) COBB Tuning (the manufacturer of the AccessPORT) has made a change to the AccessPORT hardware which will not support the MINI Programming and ECU.
2) Sales of the MINI AccessPORT have not met a level to justify COBB Tuning making a MINI AccessPORT with the new hardware.

I buy a unit now, what will the support be?

1) COBB / ALTA will continue the One Year Warranty from the date of original purchase.
2) COBB will support software compatibility through July 1st, 2013
3) ALTA will support mapping concerns through July 1st, 2013

CLICK HERE for a direct link to the AccessPORT on our website.

We thank all of you for your business!
More cool products from ALTA Performance are on the way!

Damn, so in the future, after July 2013, if the dealer ever updates our software, and we end up having trouble re-installing a tune, this means the AP is useless?

Good point to bring up Richieb0y28!

If the dealer updates your ECU while the AccessPORT is installed on your car, this will cause your AccessPORT to stop functioning. If this happens, Cobb Tuning will always be able to reset your AccessPORT so it continues to function and flash maps. This isn't something we can do, but we can for sure help our customers through the process (requires proof of the dealer updating the ECU).

While this is possible to fix, its always best to uninstall the AccessPORT before going to the dealer.

Thanks Alta- yeah that's what I originally meant. If I uninstall, then go to the dealer and they update the ecu, and then I have issues re-installing...Cobb will be able to assist?

Another good question!
Cobb is going to give us/you support on new ROM's (new ECU updates) until December 2013. Keep in mind that this is very rare to see new ECU updates anymore. In the last 6 months, there have only been 2 new ECU's added. One was really old and one was new. If your car is out of warranty, I wouldn't pay the dealer to update the ECU anyway.

The whole idea is to not leave our customers hanging out to dry which is why we are going to continue our mapping support for 6 months and keep the 1 year warranty in tact.

I'd like to know the same thing? If we uninstall and the dealer flashes the ECU and we then go to re-install and am unable to will Alta/Cobb be able to help? If the AP becomes a useless brick after July 2013 that's a huge problem.

EDIT: nevermind. The above post answered it for me.

Cool thanks, that was my main concern. I don't plan on paying the dealer for anything, but I'm still under warranty, so I figured I'd ask. Thanks guys

So after the said date we should no longer get any firmware updates? Our units should still work the way they are now. Any new problems will not be able to be fixed.
