so when i recieve this tool and proceed to flash my car, is it a MUST to hook my car up to a battery or is it not really necessary?

It occurs to me that we have an excellent opportunity here to address a question that many have expressed interest in - namely, what kind of performance increase different CAI's provide. If I understand this new tool correctly, it's datalogging feature may give us a window of understanding into how different CAI's perform under actual driving conditions. The problem that has plagued us previously is that any performance gains registered with a dyno are, well, pretty artificial.

So, my question to the Alta guys (given that I personally haven't seen how this tools datalogging feature works): Is it now possible to use this tool to see real world performance changes from upgrades such as CAI's?

*IF* your battery is in good shape, you *should* be ok.

You shouldn't have any issue with a good battery. jeff got it all done on my car in the Alta parking lot. Longest part was downloading vehicle information before he loaded the map onto the car. Only takes a few minutes.

It's not 100% necessary, as long as you have been driving the car recently, and you shut off your headlights, radio, etc it should be fine. A battery charger will guarantee that you won't have a problem with the battery dieing.

The datalogging feature will let you look into how the car is reacting to the CAI. It will also let you be able to measure AFR. We are coming out with an update early next week though that will be able to measure horsepower, 0-60 and 1/4 times!

Also there is a new update that came out for the ALTA AccessPORT today! To get the update, run the AP updater.

I've updated successfuly but now I'm not sure what to do now. Do I need to reflash my ECU? Exactly what impact does the AccessPORT updates have?

Thanks.

There's nothing else you need to do, we didn't make an update on the maps, but we updated the AccessPORT firmware so the AccessPORT will now work on more ECUs.

Updates can change many things, from adding new features to the AccessPORT, making it work on more cars, or eventually, updating maps.

eek.
I do get just under 23 PSI on mine if the over-boost feature kicks in, typically though it tops out at 20 PSI.

If you are talking about the 23 PSI it doesn't get that high often and when it does it doesn't stay there very long. My RMW tune did the same thing. If you have a stage 3 MINI both tunes are set for 20 PSI and in an over-boost situation both will top out just under 23 PSI.

Alta is not pushing the turbo to failure by running too much boost anymore than Jan is.

The Alta tune does do a better job of holding the boost pressure right around 20 PSI though compared to my RMW tune.

so i recieved my accessPORT in the mail today...and i just want to say its worth every penny.

the stage 2 tune TPS on my 09 JCW is simply unreal. not only is the car so much faster, the powerband is ridiculously smooth. with TPS included in the tune im running now, with the sport button on, my car is not jerky anymore when u push the throttle. its litterally smooth power from beginning all the way pulling hard till the end.

i didnt have much time to drive with it today (perhaps an hour or so), but its a VERY noticeable feel in power and so far i cant wait to drive it again 2morro. I'll drive more tomorro and keep you guys updated! Big thanks again to Alta for making this all happen!

p.s. no more CEL light on my speedometer EVERYtime i drive (because of my downpipe) makes this a visually appealing mod as well. Well done Alta!

I haven't heard of many RMW cars running 20+psi...

Most are around 17-18...and yet they make almost the same power as the Cobb cars running 20+psi. Sometimes less can be more

It'll be interesting to see how he tunes them with the AP

well now you have My RMW tune gets the same peak boost as my Alta tune. I know you are a staunch RMW supporter but you can't compare the tunes if you don't have them both. I do. Alta's tune is currently better IMHO. I am only one of many who have tried both tunes and have indicated the Alta tune provides more power, better drivability, clears CELs from downpipes, and they provide better customer service. Especially in terms of support there is no comparison.

I have both the RMW and the AP. I can't compare them though as the AP is having trouble recognizing my ecu. Jeff is working to figure this out and YES I have the latest firmware updates. The latest updates were loaded on the second AP I was sent which I received on Tuesday. Even with the updates the AP still can't recognize my ecu. The first AP froze up while trying to update the firmware.

I am anxious to make the comparison but don't know how soon or if I will get to do so. Only time will tell.

Futuremini,

Sorry about the updating issue. With the newest update from yesterday afternoon, the freezing during updating has been fixed. A second AccessPORT was sent out before we found out that the freezing during update issue was ironed out, we actually have a way now to unfreeze the AccessPORT. If you run an update right now, the update will be able to complete, and should able to load on your ECU! Jeff also sent you an email, please get back to him or give us a call, thanks!

...seems like it sometimes redduc!

Good news though. The latest firmware upgrade as of today has fixed the issue I was having with the AP recognizing my ecu. The AP loaded the map to my ecu with no problems and functions correctly. Now for the test drive tonight.

THANKS JEFF AND CHRIS!
