After July 1st 2013, COBB and ALTA will no longer be providing mapping support for the MINI AP. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by exclusive, sorry.

Chris,
I think I know the answer, but I will ask anyway.
If we have a car that is running well with the AP, and don't have any changes/mods planned, is there any need to update the AP or get a revised map?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

There really isn't a need for another map unless you're having any issues. Thanks!

Does anyone know when switching maps do you need to go back to OEM map or can I just switch from one Stage 1 map to another Stage 1 map?

You will not have to uninstall the AP, just reflash with the new map and you're good!

20+ Boost

Just installed my AP w/ stage 1 FMIC . Car pulls really strong , but it buries my 20# boost gauge. How many pounds is it actually boosting, and is it safe???? Chris??? I guess I have to change my gauge to a higher max ..
I'm really happy that I ordered the AP before it sold out. Was going to wait till after Christmas. Really surprising seat of pants difference.

Maps

So if I got an AP, what types of tuning or maps would there be. If I upgraded my turbo, would I be able to tune settings that go with that, or is it just simpler upgrades like intakes and stuff like that

Good morning KJs Toy,

I have that same setup on my Mini and I can say that yes 20 psi is not uncommon. I had my AP hooked up and was using it as a boost gauge during some pulls (through different gears) and noticed my peak was 20.0 psi. My average was around 18.5-19.0 psi.

I am in CO so at a higher altitude my turbo is spinning faster to make what yours does at less RPM so you could be showing slightly higher boost levels.

Hook your AP up to your OBD II and use the monitor feature while you drive. Leave it hooked up all day and as you drive around (spirited) check out your peak boost (recorded in the lower left hand corner). The minimum and maximum are recorded as: -8.6/20.0

Let me know if you have any questions and enjoy!

Yep, you might need a new gauge! Our maps are safe, if the boost goes into an unsafe amount, it will cut the boost.

The AccessPORT comes preloaded with a ton of maps for common bolt on modifications. You will have to get a custom dyno tune if you upgrade your turbo though. There's a few shops that can do this.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice Chris. I'm thinking of getting the AP but i'm not sure what it will do to my warranty or maintenance. Maybe ill use it when the warrantys up or something like that. Thinking about that, a turbo upgrade would probably affect it also

Hey Chris, I e-mailed you guys about my bouncy idle issue, but I haven't heard back in a while. Any idea when it might be ready?

This should be a simple question for anyone.
My current ECU is mapped for my JCW kit. So if I install a map from the AP, does it store a copy of my current map in case I need to go back to it later? I don't want to go back to a factor MCS map without the JCW tune. Nor, do I want to lose my original map to begin with. Thanks.

Carey, your JCW tune will be saved on the AccessPORT when you do a reflash. That way if you uninstall the AccessPORT, it will reinstall the tune that was last on the ECU. Thanks!

Thank you Chris. Hopefully it stays safe and sound on the AccessPORT. Be nice to be able to back it up on computer or something or maybe I'm just paranoid. Still looking around for a used one. Thanks.

I data logged and my max PSI was 19.01 and my average was maybe around 17 or so. That was from a 1st gear to 4th gear pull each gear to a little over 6k rpm. Should I be getting more boost than that? I am at a couple hundred feet above sea level and it was about 70 degrees ambient temperature. My data log is attached. This was also with stock exhaust.

Chris, I just purchased the last Access Port from Mini Dynamics (according to Scott it's the last one in the country). It should be delivered today, so I may be asking questions that will be answered when it arrives, but here goes: 1) since it will no longer be supported by COBB i'm a little concerned that something may happen and I will loose the maps. Is there any place other then the AP they can be stored? 2) Are all the maps for the different stages pre loaded? 3) I've read that I can change factory settings i.e. have "sport" engage from start up.... are options like that also loaded on it when it arrives or do I need a special map? 4) Are there any in between staged maps? I currently have the Alta intake, hard pipe and boost tube. I also installed the CNT cat back (it includes a cat less mid pipe) but is only 2.5". I was told a 92 octane non FMIC map will be best. In the future I would like to add a FMIC and the CNT catted down Pipe (it is 2.5" with a 200 cell cat) with those additional modifications would a 92 octane FMIC stage 2 map be correct?

1. The AP comes preloaded with a ton of maps, actually over 200! Only maps that are for your ECU type will show up on the AP Manager after you load a map on your car. Then you can drag and drop those onto your desktop if you want to.

2. All maps are preloaded.

3. We don't have a way to make the sport mode come on automatically, we can change the behavior of the sport button to change throttle sensitivity if you like. The AP already comes preloaded with normal throttle sensitivity maps, and linear throttle maps.

4. Our maps will work with most bolt on mods. That includes intake, inlet hose, boost tubes, inlet hose, BOV, intercooler and exhausts. For your mods, you should run a stage 1 map.

If you add a FMIC, you would run the stage 1 FMIC map. The same will apply with the 2.5" exhaust. Our stage 2 maps are only to be run with a 3" exhaust.

I hope that helps, thanks!

Chris: I saw that you had posted somewhere else that "bad things will happen" if you run a stage 2/3 without a 3" exhaust. What bad things? :X

It can cause drivability issues, CELs, and possibly wear on the turbo, not good!

There are no maps preloaded on the AP for upgraded turbos. Upgraded turbos require a custom dyno tune.

Now that the Alta page is gone, anyone have the dyno graphs they had on their page showing the HP/TQ increases? I got the Stage 1 ones off the first post in this thread....
