Depends on what "Manual" they use. Sometimes a shop will have a lower hourly labor rate but use a Manual that is high on the hours charged per labor type. Then you have a shop that charges a higher labor rate but uses a Manual that is lower on charger per labor type. Of course, then there's the shop who uses the high labor rate and Manual that is high on per labor type.
So, to answer your question, I'm not much help but I'd sure shop around for rates.
I recently had Eric at Helix install the RMW cam and 17% pulley. Couldn't be more happy!
Thats good to hear. How long did it actually take them to install it? I wish you had already had the pulley installed so that you could tell me how much of a difference there was after the cam install.

That's an hour and a half of work, and $250 worth of rip-off, assuming that you bought the cam from them and already gave them their profit on the cam itself.
If you bought the cam somewhere else, all bets are off. If you bought it from elsewhere, don't expect warranty on the install or the cam - that's your risk and RMW's "warrantee", not Helix's.
Tell them you'll pay actual shop time while you watch, or go elsewhere, and sign a release that if it breaks later, it's on you...
Where I live nobody works on MINIs so I have to drive 2-3 hours to have it worked on. Like I said earlier I called to several shops and Helix was the cheapest. Others want $500 and up!
I wish I could do this myself, but I do not have all the tools I should have to do it.
It is pretty straight forward. I just don't have all the tools a mechanic normally has. Maybe I will look over the install again and see if I might be able to do it if I buy the tools.

post link to this install guide please im interested in doing a cam on my cooper s
Ha tried to do it today, but didn't have any luck. Got as far as taking the valve cover off then got scared about not having the proper bmw tool to hold the timing chain and everything. I know I could have done it without the tool for sure but I didn't want to make a mistake like turning the engine over or something. So it looks like I am still going to have Helix install it for me. Oh well it was worth a shot
