One other comment

Mini parts are expensive for most parts. It the size of the market that does it. Dev costs are about the same, but the number of sales that you have to spread that over are much less.

I've got a 5.0 FI engine in my Mustang. Cams, headers, exhausts and pretty much any other part sure are inexpenisve for American iron. But then I think Ford sells more Mustangs in a month or two than Mini sells cars in a year.

But then, parts for Minis are less than parts for Porsches.

But if anyone thinks that selling parts for Minis is a gold mine, they are sorely mis-informed. Some make good money, but most don't. FES is my full time job, and so far it's at hobby+ income levels. I'm just lucky that my wife works full time!

Anyway, those that are doing well making parts are doing so with healthy mark ups and by branching out into other makes of car. Those that have shops do well by developing enough of a customer base to have the bays full so that they get per hour labor income plus what they make on parts, and several of them are branching out into BMWs as well (factory tool overlap makes this easier). There are just too few Minis to really make a living on just Minis.

FES LLC a vendor here on NAM https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...w.fes-auto.com He, FES, in turn supplies the various vendors that have been mentioned in the previous posts. I don't understand your question, "yet none directly addressing what justifies the price doubling (from Crowers price) on this particular re-grind." There is no "Crower price", you cannot buy these cams directly from Crower. These are NS series cams, developed by Motion Motors and ground by Crower Cams. Hope this helps

Hello all
At the request of one of my accounts Motion Motors I was asked to help clear up some misconceptions having to do with camshaft regrinding. I will try when time allows answering general questions concerning the valve train system. In the area concerning the Mini Coopers one of my accounts Motion Motors contracted my company to regrind oem camshafts with performance specifications specific for them and therefore I am not obliged to give that information directly pertaining about those special performance regrinds. Motion Motors is also the qualifying expert for the Mini Cooper engine and FES LLC a registered vendor is the marketer of said camshafts and product contact source for contracted Crower performance reground or new MINI Cooper supplied products. Under the NAM guide lines I cannot directly promote my CROWER products or those that are not a register vendor. So I have a very fine line to be able to respond with. Anyone feel free to call me at CROWER during our normal business hours.
The current Mini Cooper performance regrinds we do are under contract from Motion Motors with CROWER and anyone wanting such a performance Mini Cooper regrind must contact FES LLC
Most companies that regrind stock cams to oem specification also offer a slightly increased level of regrind but not considered a performance cam. These are typically what you would get in a master rebuild engine kit. There is also offered different quality levels of regrinds as well which is dependent on the budget and the usage. Even some new billets are not always finished in the best quality by some.
The current Mini Cooper performance reground camshafts we complete are pre inspected and cleaned and precision ground polished and visually inspected as well as re-measured for accuracy. The cam cards are individually printed and logged for future reference before boxed.
A performance regrind must have a base cam first ground and tested before you machine your final product. These tests are usually checking the hardness of the material and the general core condition. The stock cams are then measured for maximum specification taking account clearances and mechanical limitation of the corresponding valve train parts. The next step is machining the new specification to the core. We use a few methods that give a reasonable predictability of their level of performance.
So there is no such thing as a fifty dollar performance regrind.
Taking the time to gather other brand camshafts to measure them for their specification is counterproductive. Having that information takes as much time than simply creating one’s own specifications. In essence having the data on another company’s cam is really unimportant.
Some believe that you cannot achieve substantial lifts and duration from a reground camshaft. There are many ways to affordably get high level race specification out of them.
The performance Mini camshaft we regrind using the oem core can be increased in all aspects such as lift equal to using a new billet.
Regards to all,
Dave Crower

Wow, .... what's going on with this forum?
RMW comes into this thread with a challenge that went something like this '...have Dan crower post here I am waiting for him..' and now that post by RMW has been completely removed? Disappeared along with another post that quoted it. Why? Because Dave Crower actually took some of his valuable time to come to this corrupt forum to share his expertise? Corrupt because this "challenge" by RMW was removed from existance without a trace.
Really, ... who owns and runs this forum now anyway, RMW? This is as crazy as it has ever been I think. It's a REAL disservice to so many here that just want to learn, as it has been narrowed down to but one vendor and his opinions only. Now that someone who knows better then all of us (Dave Crower) post when asked to, the vendor who challenged him runs and hides so not to be exposed as what? Why else would a vendor run from his own challenge??

Greg, I'm not sure how long your post will stay up, but I'm honestly not sure what we can write here anymore, there is a very broad interpretation of what constitutes trolling at this point. I'm pretty much just going to "read only" status.

I to was curious as to how this might play out and to be honest this wasn't even in the cards . I've been here since 02 and I've never seen such , shall we say, interesting actions .

A simple challenge was put forth by RMW , something along the lines of " Have Dave Crower post here , I am waiting " . Dave ,a highly respected man in the exact field that this thread was all about puts up a very informative post and two things happen. One i completely expected , the ill informed rock throwers slink away and the thread gets REAL quiet. The other one which caught me off guard was that the challenging post , the reason Mr. Crower took time to respond ,is deleted ?? I mean really what is going on ? It can't be for " keeping the thread on track " or " lack of respect etc. as the response post was to the point and very civil. If the challenge post was out of line then why wasn't it removed days sooner ? Simply amazing and not in a good way.

Clearly there are those who would like to discuss anything but camshafts as the moderators have already spent several hours attempting to keep this thread information and not innuendo based. If you'd like to discuss camshafts feel free to start a new thread, if you'd like to see who's genitals are bigger you can take it somewhere else.
