Wow, my brain hurts. This thread is too much (entertaining, though). Couple of questions; Any CA folks out there having smog failures using these cams, or are you swapping for the test every two years? The PTFE coating was an interesting proposition- I could not find the upper end heat distortion limit on that coating, anyone have any ideas how long it will last before it breaks down or wears off? Finally, what I have found particularly disheartening is the badmouthing of this forum as a source of misinformation by unqualified people. Why do those who are above this site continue to dwell in here? Move on or up, if that sounds better. I have learned volumes in my quiet observations of NAM, and find it's charactors very interesting. Sure you have to sift for facts, but I dare say that one learns as much from the unqualified folks here as from the pros (especially when you put the whole picture together, and of course do your homework!) I, for one, am grateful for the wealth of knowledge I have obtained at the generous expense of other member's R&D. Thanks for sharing! If there is a more comprehensive forum where facts are shared without squabble, can some one please share? I would love to have a place to bounce back and forth to for facting/comparing notes. To those who are actually vested in this thread, nice work, and great posts!

500F steady, 600F peak, but it wouldn't go away completely due to substrate impregnation.

Great to know, thanks k-huevo! That coating has some great potential in other apps as well.

Also K- huevo has a great install instruction on his site - he gave me info/advice/help even though I did not go with his cam . The only thing his install forgets to tell you is to remove the spark plug wires

All this talk of "camps" and character assassination makes me think I'm in a camp of my own when it comes to my cam.

Newman/RMW camshaft on the left, Crower NS1 on the right. Notice the rough as cast sand features on the Newman camshaft (left), which leaves burrs on the lobe edge, cuts on the mold line are potential stress risers. What can't be seen in the photo is the Crower/NS1's (right) micro-polished surface on journals and lobes. The Newman/RMW bearing surfaces have a brushed finish. Forget the size BS; the only thing a visual “size” comparison will come close to telling is how hard it will be on the valve train. In actuality the Newman/RMW looks square compared to the NS1.

LOL.. 418 Posts and we are down to being able to "see" the difference?? My Eyes must be out of calibration?? I just can NOT see the difference of .009 or .023 of cam Lobe lift?? Must be an OLD thing??

I think it is time to get over this.. I can say the cams deliver!! The FASTEST BMW MINI in England ( super street class 11.16 @ 123 mph) is running the Newman cam, the guys in Germany doing 150+ on the Autobahn are running the Cat cam, and here in the US we *****!! WTF?? We have choices... the Newman quality of the casting of the cam is bad on THAT core.. the Re-grind NS cams look premo on the OEM BMW cores..but IF I lay all three ( Newman/NS1 and NS2 cams side by side that I HAVE..) It would be a bit harder to tell !! I think if it wasnt all about the "Custom Grind" statement a few months ago.. there would not be this controversy?? I can tell you that ALL the Cams do what they say.. I know cause I spent all day on the dyno in 90+ Fl heat running them!!

Get over the "shoulda - coulda-woulda" attitude!! Pick a cam for your application.. or belief on quality.. or belief of Re-grinds..or cost against performance. They all work and out power the older Schrick of past!! regardless of the "Magic Tune" or not.. they work!! More power is there.. and (so far) there are no idle issues or lights being thrown.

Stop all this junk on trying to dis any of these camshaft.. they all have their quality, and power gains and they all work!!

But then this is

Good post Thumper.
When you think about it, we should just all be lucky that we now actually have choices. One's better for me and the other for you. If the vendors would just maybe understand that it's not really who's is "THE best", then we could get past all of this crap we are going through here.
Thumper, I hope that maybe sometime, sooner then later, we can see results from yours and others cam testing and just decide what's best for the individual "us" .

Tired of this stuff ......

Right on T I recently went through the "which cam should I get ????" and after researching and talking to the folks making and selling the cams made my choice based on what performance profile I wanted.

Your post is spot on - this board gets caught up in the camp a vs camp b vs camp c garbage and loses sight of the orignal need/want

I agree - I for one would like to see a second set of results of "the cam comparison" - of course this group will pick it apart no matter what the results and claim victory

I passed my SMOG test a few months ago . I have a Schrick cam. Some other relevant things might be a Vitesse Pro tune, 400 cc injectors and a 64mm TB.

So Thumper what cam did you MINI love in the FL heat?

In the JCW injector/flash thread you mentioned going back to stock injection. Are you running your cammed MINI with stock map and/or stock fuel injectors now?
