Factory JCW Exhaust mods

Hi, I'm taking delivery of factory fitted R56 JCW in 2 weeks. I'm wondering what sort of exhaust I'll have. I used to have a very loud and modified R53, and was aware of the different types of exhausts available, and whether they have mufflers/cats/resonators etc.

Can anyone tell me the specs and orientation of the factory 155kW JCW model's exhaust?

Thanks, Elie

try the factory jcw section, u might have better results, what I can tell u is that the exhaust sounds so incredible and distinctive with its burbles, farts, and backfires. As to the exact specs, you got me.

The one I have driven, sounded real nice.

However, NO exhaust will compare to the sound of your R53. I too came from an R53, and nothing will compare in volume or fullness...you can thank the turbo for that!

I was driving my R56 S around this week with no muffler, just a straight pipe, and it slightly reminded me of how my R53 sounded, but still not the same.

hehe thanks guys, i know it sounds awesome...

Thumper, all too true. I miss my R53. It was taken from me by someone that couldn't care less about what he did to me. Ah well, i have the JCW now.

I've had a look at a couple of threads, and a couple of youtube vids, and I've made a decision. I want to convert my exhaust to exactly what the challenge cars use. Would anyone know the challenge cars' exhaust specs?

I'll second that, it's awesome sounding from the second you press the start button. I did the Alta turbo-back (that was a nightmare I hope to never repeat) and it still didn't have a fraction of the character the JCW possesses.

I agree.. I haven't found a single exhaust that sounds better than OEM. (on EU-spec cars the Cooper S also pops and crackles)

I don't thinkt that's a factory jcw car. That's the stage 1 exhaust. The factory one has full open tips.

Yep, that's an EU-spec Stage I JCW.

Sounds good.. a bit 'darker' en 'deeper' tone than normal Cooper S.

I have a Daewoo exhaust system. Sounds 'unreal.'

How much does the JCW exhaust run anyway? Never really gave the thought real attention as I am actually pretty satisfied with the way the stock S sounds (also Im kind of tired of hearing loud exhaust systems. Ricers are everywhere where I live, and my dad's Lamborghini deafens me).

The JCW exhaust sounds just right!!

Question; I'm adding the JCW Tuning Kit to my 09 MCS. Is that the same as the Stage I JCW you refer?

I had a 2001 Corvette w/480bhp [405rwhp dyno'd] D/T mods which included Long Tube Headers, and Borla Catback and she was LOUD. So, I'm thinking my Cooper S w/JCW TK will not be near as loud as was the Vette.

TIA.

Try doing it with no cats and no resonators aswell as no mufflers Not quite R53 sound, but as close as you are going to get to it!

No, the EU cars have a different ecu tune, which is why/how they have the burble & pop of the Factory (stage 2) JCW Mini's we get here in NA.
The Stage 1 kit you're adding gets you a mild remap w/ a bit more boost and a more free flowing muffler and airbox. The volume and tone are only a slight change from the stock MCS.

I've been holding out for an aftermarket remap that restores the burble & pop the European cars have, otherwise, I'm trading in my MCS for an '09 JCW. Of course if they announce a 50th anniversary edition, I'll be picking one up regardless

Is anyone thinking of deleting the resonator and/or mufflers? If so, could you do a before vs after sound recording?

I wish i could make it sound like the challenge cars:

Play them both at the same time and it's sensory overload!
