Intake and Exhaust questions

Hello ,
I"m new to the forums. I have a 08 MCS on the way. This will be second one. The first I did not do anything to , and this one I want to do alittle to make it sound a bit more sporty. I want to add a intake and exhaust , but I dont want it be over kill on the noise.
I have been reading alot on here about the stuff , but wanted opinions from everyone on what they think.
Choices on intake would be Alta , K&n r51 , DDM or m7.
Also , what exhaust would you reccommend that's not too loud , but gives it a different sound to it? Oh yeah, alittle extra horsepower wouldn't hurt either. Thanks

I'd vote diy on the intake and maybe alta on the exhaust, bit of you want to purchase a intake I like the DDM.

I replaced my DIY w/ a DDM Street, and it's MUCH smoother. I don't exactly know why, but it is.

As far as intakes go -
The ALTA or the DDM will suite you fine, give some excellent sound (which if you drive smoothly and normally and calmly is not nearly noticeable), I went with the DDM because both intakes honestly do the exact same thing, but one looks more colorful for 100.00 more.

As far as exhausts go.. I honestly really love my JCW exhaust, and that's coming from a previous cooper's magnaflow.. (aka; LOUD). THe JCW is relatively dialed back, but very sporty and growling.
From what I've heard, the ALTA exhaust would be a good middle of the road option perhaps.

MOTOR ON !!

How about a JCW Stage 1? That adds about the same power as a full turbo-back exhaust, however the revised airbox adds a whiff of induction music, the cat-back exhaust sounds fantastic, the JCW ECU flash smooths out the car while running a touch more boost, and the whole thing is covered under Warranty with no questions asked, which has it's own merit.

My own counterpoint would be a full turbo-back exhaust. I've driven an R56 MCS with ALTA's full exhaust and it sounds very nice, isn't too loud [perhaps a whiff louder than the JCW catback], and provides real power gains.

$0.02,
Ryan

+1

I felt the exact same way when I switched from DIY to a DDM Street.

Hey if I can help in anyway please let me know.

Depending on how loud you want to be, might determine the choice on the exhaust. I have been driving our 09 JCW car and that exhaust is nearly identical to the OEM Cooper S. Vs. the ALTA cat-back or turbo back that is a bit louder without being obnoxious. (Not trying to disagree with Ryephile, but to me the ALTA is louder for sure.)

Intake are based on your personal choice. They all look a bit different, and the dyno results may vary, but you may want to choose based on company integrity, customer service and style of the intake.

Let me know if I can help in anyway further! Hope to chat soon!
