Drivetrain Invidia Q300 R56 exhaust
invidia q300 installed
Installed yesterday. Overall very pleased with fit, finish and sound. At first it appeared that it was droning quite a bit between 1500-3000 rpm. Not to bad and I'm really dig'n how it get's "angrier" as the pipes heat up. The tips are huge but fit the JCW overall look. They come about 1/3" from rear diffuser edge top and sides but no contact.

I really enjoy my Invidia too but am faced with a possible change. I just bought the JCW Stage 1 kit and will have to decide which exhaust I want to run. As of now I am planning on sticking with the Invidia but curiosity may make me change to the JCW. HHHHMMMMM....

If the price is right, i may have to jump on it.
I had an Invidia on my R53, which of course has the "titanium" blue tips. Always loved how they looked.
Has anyone tried/thought of putting these tips on? I really love how these match up with the valence, and they are not so "thick" at the opening as the invidia ones come..

stolen from ghosthound - thanks =]
people have been running these with their custom magnaflow setups, which I was set on getting at first, but now im torn. I love the look of the other, but am liking the easy install of this one.

I just got my Invidia Q300 installed this morning. I have a few impressions, some good some not so good.
Right after the install we let the car idle for a bit jsut to heat things up to make sure all the bolts were nice and tight. The sound at idle is very good, deep with a bit of a burble and nothing can be heard in the cabin. If anything it's quieter at idle inside than the stock was.
After shutting the car off and rechecking all the bolts I let it sit for a bit while I rested some (it was a 2 hour drive to my friends house where I installed it, he has a lift so it was worth it).
The first drive was great. It has a nice deep growl at constant speed and when you get up into the gears there is a very satisfying but deep race car buzz. Still not a lot of sound in the car with the windows up.
After driving for a bit, once the car warmed up, things changed. The "nice deep growl" from before has now become a loud drone when trying to acclerate in gear. This lasts up till around 5k when it becomes racier. The same drone is heard when decelerating in gear.
I let the car cool down while eating lunch and hanging out at the local dealers Motortober event for about 4 hours. Hopped in the car to go to dinner and got the same results as before, everything is fine and great sounding until things heat up.
I just spent the last two hours on the highway driving home and I'm about fed up with the whole thing. This is not what I was expecting at all. I really hope that I have a defect in my exhaust somewhere becasue it sounds like I'm getting results that are different than others. All the clamps are tight and the hangers are fairly new and fit snugly. Other than this mod nothing else has been done to the car and it only has 11k miles on it.
If any of you guys have any suggestions, I'll listen. I really like the way it initially sounded. Here are some pics of the install for all those interested.

Mines quiet too until I accelerate, but instead of the growl I get drone, It's actually pretty bad and kills any music I may have playing. It doesn't seem to matter if I have sport mode on or not either.
Do either of you guys have an intake? I notice that futuremini has the JCW tune, did you get teh exhaust before or after.
I'm just grasping at straws here.

I've got about 300 miles on the exhaust, the majority of which are highway. I am still smelling the burn off so maybe, just maybe it needs some time to break in though I'm reluctant as my previous car only got worse with time.
I'll give it a while and send a note to Invidia just in case.

It does seem to make a difference once everything is burned in. I do recall mine changing as I got more miles on it and it took more than 300 miles to get the final tone. Good luck and keep us updated!
You guys need to realize that for the most part when you make a turbo exhaust, you get a small amount of drone. Turbo systems are made to have a straight th rough muffler with no baffles and chambers which is what oem mufflers have. Also it is not uncommon for a system to sound a lil different on another car due to different mods etc.
If you want a system that has 0 sound in the cabin yet has some growl to it at WOT then chances are you will be installing a system made for a Normally aspirated engine with 0hp increase.
Oh yeah, i believe invidia is made overseas so take it and tap on the resonator and muffler. You dont want to hear a tingy sound, if you hear that then it means the packing blew out already or they forgot to put packing in it.

Compared to how it is now, it was silent when I first got it.
It's still too quiet for me....must get a downpipe! LOVE the sound of it though, but could add a touch more.

I was thinking on the 2 hour drive home Saturday that there may be a problem with the resonator. If it keeps up I may just have it replaced with a larger, higher quality, version. I really need to find a good exhaust shop that can at least attempt to evaluate my needs first, though.
I can't figure out how mine is supposed to sound since it keeps coming apart...probably gonna break down and finally weld it together this weekend. Has anyone else had this problem? In order to get it to NOT come apart as often I had to ditch the metal plate under the exhaust and slide the connecting pipe up further...but then the muffler had to slide up further too...I've tried tightening the clamps as much as they can possibly go, but the sucker still comes apart. Kind of annoying when I have to get under my car at least once a week to take the clamps off, wiggle everything around, readjust then re-tighten the clamps again...

My rear section disconnected itself for the first time last week. If you really torque the bolts down I don't see why it should be coming off that much. I must admit though, its such a stupid design. Their R53 version was joined together MUCH better...(don't know the name/term of the type of connection it is though...).
I didnt have time to fiddle with it, so I just pulled out the rear section for the rest of the week. Kinda liked the straight pipe sound
If the mid pipe...or any of the pipes were 2 inches longer things would be much easier...but i'm definitely going to weld it together once and for all this weekend. I know i've been saying that forever, but I was hoping the clamps would finally get sorted out if I adjusted everything just right...
On a related note i have the gas and wire to weld stainless but have never actually done it before...only mild steel, so we'll see how this goes lol.
