M7 DDM CAI install

Hi all,

I just had a Craven 15% pulley installed (it rocks!) & now I'm getting an M7 DDM HDI intake to help it breath a bit better (just the filter & box, not the silicone tube). I'm going to do the install myself but I'm just wondering if there are any weird installation tricks or probs with this particular CAI. Also does anyone know if the filter (Uni) comes pre-oiled?

thanks in advance

It most likely does. I know the Alta comes pre-oiled. It wouldn't hurt to pick up a cleaning/oil kit anyways just in case...

call Dave at DDM..... I believe it is pre oiled...... I think it is a good choice.... I have one after a Dinan, Alta and stock.... seems like more power than the Dinan and less noise than the Alta.... Ii can't say it has more power than the Alta as I am not sure but I like being able to hear my exhaust

My wife and I have the DDM CAIs on our cars. The filter does come pre-oiled, and there wasn't anything tricky with the installation. Going slowly and following the directions, each car took me about 35 minutes.

Nice! I was looking for an enclosed CAI that wasn't too noisy (but more than stock) and also gives a few more horses. Can't wait to try it out.

DDM

The DDM is a great choice, i added it after 15% Craven and colder NGK plugs and it really woke the car up,the tach seemed like it was at 6000 a lot quicker,Sounded nice too,not too loud, but lets you and those around you know its ''charged'' with that beautiful whine! Also,Dave is good people,he called after the sale just to ask how the install went and how i liked it.

Thanks Bill,

I had Dan do the 15% & it really seemed a lot quicker, but I still feel like it isn't breathing as freely as it should since its now moving more air. I'm going to try & get it installed before the VIR thing (maybe I'll see you there!).

I have the ALTA but only because I got a great deal on it, I know a few people that have the DDM and it is great too. One word of advice take off the black intercooler cover it will make it a lot eaiser to work in the engine bay. Its 4 (T30) bolts and comes off and goes on very easy.

Unless your dealer got to it and crossthreaded one of the front bolts and broke the mount on the intercooler . I have to use a wrench to hold the mount while I undo the torx. Luckily, the mount is just a very long hex nut.

I'd also check out the "How to..." that Randy Webb did. Although it's for an Alta CAI, all the steps are the same.

Thanks again for all the tips! I got it installed last week & I'm really enjoying it. It took me about 1.25 hours, but I tend to work slowly & carefully. The hardest part was getting the stock snorkel hose to fit on the bigger metal tubing on the intake. It's distinctly louder, but not annoyingly so and it only gets more than moderately loud at full throttle.

I did the install and It's a piece of cake. It came with simple straightforward instructions that were dead on, and the filter is pre-oiled... VERY pre-oiled!

I would assume it's similar to the new Webb CAI but without the RAF.

I haven't found the answer to this question yet, but I'll keep searching...

How far do you push the Uni filter on to the intake pipe? If you push it on the 3/4 inch or so until it hits a natural stop, you can tighten the clamp, but not too much because the very tight clamp pushes the filter back off of the intake hose. If you slide the filter several inches down the intake pipe, the clamp won't stay on the filter collar.

I just did the install last night (with an Alta silicone intake tube) and it took one hour... 20 minutes or so was fiddling with the attachment of the filter.

I finally settled on the 3/4 inch solution and not tightening down on the clamp as hard as I would like. I'm thinking of pulling it apart and re-attaching the filter this weekend, after thoroughly de-greasing the intake pipe and the rubber collar on the filter.

DDM Rocks!

Hint...the filter is very oiled...spray some brake cleaner on a rag and wipe the inside female end of the filter's rubber connector clean before clamping on...otherwise, it will keep popping off everytime you try to tighten it down...

Agranger,

That was my experience too. I finally looked and saw that there is a little lip on the Unifilter tube that only lets it go so far & then it stops & that is where you want it tightened. You also need to remove any oil in the inside of the rubber tube. I had some of the filter oil on the inside of the tube & it came off after I clamped it down, but after I really cleaned all the oil off I was able to clamp it down good w/o coming off.

Yep... this is exactly what I was seeing last night.

The Uni filter is pre-oiled... all over. I had an easier time of it after cleaning it with some 409 on a paper towel, but I think I'll use the brake clean idea or maybe just clean the entire filter well, dry it, tape off the end and re-oil. I'll also clean the intake pipe well too.

You can push the filter on farther, past the stop at 1/2 or 3/4 inch, but the flange takes a funny angle and every time you tighten the clamp, it slides off of the flange.

Thanks for the tips.
