Workbench help
Starting to get the garage together at the new house - once I get the blasted boxes out of the way. Already got one gladiator gear track up and have all the shovels and other gardening paraphenalia. Going to get a wall box or two for 'stuff'. Two more purchases that I'm trying to decipher.
1. Workbench - gladiator makes a very nice workbench but don't know if I can justify the cost. There are other cheaper ones at sears but they all have mdf tops rather than maple. Any suggestions for a good workbench that won't cost and arm and a leg or should I go for the gusto and just get the maple topped gladiator.
2. Tripod halogen light - Lowes has them in several wattages and not terribly expensive. Got a 250 watt single floor light and it seems pretty bright. In the real world - whats a good wattage for working on cars etc in the garage. Don't need to illuminate the whole outdoors just work on/ wax the Mini

If there's a Sam's Club near you. They have this workbench.

or just use the cheezo tops that sears give you until they wear out, then
go to globalindustrial.com and get their maple tops.
that's wat im doing. those sears tops wear pretty well though. mine are not
MDF, but rather treated particle wood.

Well I've got the shelf for the new box installed and the box set in place. BTW 41 inches is long! I've lost the spot for my sticks but I placed it high enough to let me fit one set of wheels under it. The rest are still out on the floor....

But since we've been on vacation for the last little bit I haven't done anything else with it

Yes Jeff those are the Teins I built up about 5 months ago, still haven't gotten around to installing them yet
Sad I know, I've been working on another couple projects lately, one of them being a spring compressor so I can more easily remove the driver's front strut assembly.
Oh and the work bench looks like crap, unless you like organized chaos

See, I can do that on the passenger side, but the driver's side always causes me to swear like a drunk sailor (or so I've heard
)
I end up working with the old standard "bolt and hooks" to get the last 1/2" out of the pinch fit. I don't split the ball joint, and I've had the same difficulty on the last 6 sets I've done all 02 and 03 cars (MCS mostly only one Cooper).
I'll have to look a little closer this weekend and see if I can get it to work.

yah, when i did my H-sports i wasn't sure what the heck everyone was
complaining about. it was a little tricky to get it out, but no where as
near as what i read.
oh well. my G35C was tougher to get the front struts out... and my
old WRX's lower strut nuts were a true Biotch with a capital B to undo.
(that was the first time i seriously considered getting an impact gun).
although i just muscled it with a breaker bar.

Well, almost got all the boxes out and the Mini is in. Just ordered my first gladiator storage box. Things are starting to shape up. Just got to sell some excess furniture and I'll have it made!

I think I'll stay with these drop springs for the time being, you can see how much I use them

Ref the review... you ran these also, didn't you?
i see... hope you get that cleared away.

i haven't done much to my garage either. going to get 2 wall mounted
unmanned fire extinguishers next month...that's about it.
just
a piece of mind thing.

Bah, found it after looking a while longer.
Also, do you know what shade of white that is on the walls?

Well, I figured out what I was going to use that new toolbox for

The one on the right in this photo:

Since I picked up the Classic, I'm finding the need to store massive amounts of fuses, wire, crimp fittings, light bulbs and electrical tape!

So it's now the electrical toolbox. Shrink tube, heat guns, soldering iron etc all in their own home
BTW, the springs are now mounted on the 02
