Detailing ideas for your garage
Thanks for the consolation, Annette & CRPW.
Buckwheat's dead, but I won't have to pay any funeral costs nor unpaid debts (I carry UM coverage, so I'm not out financially):
I'm not in any rush, though -- I'm driving our beater '93 Toyo pickup for a few months.

Our MINIs' low-depreciation may not enable you to actually sell them for such a high price -- prospective buyers would do better buying new from a dealership --
but it certainly helps when negotiating ACV Actual Cash Value with an insurance claims agent.
"Put a car with all three option packages back in my driveway" is the correct demand when they've got an obligation to make you whole. The insurer is required by law to give you a fair price. It's a different price than "Here's the worth our generic ADP estimating software spit out when we put in your options."
It's a hassle, but this is what justifies insurance.
Given what I've seen on Cars.com, AutoTrader.com and Carsoup.com, a fully-loaded MCS is worth as much today as it was 2 years/30k-mi ago when it was brand new.
I just have to be willing to wait and negotiate and wait . . . .
I'd like to buy an '07 MCS, but with a growing family, a 4dr 200hp+ model like the Subaru, Mazda6 or Civic Si might have to do the job. When you need four doors, it's hard to make do with a 2-dr.but it certainly helps when negotiating ACV Actual Cash Value with an insurance claims agent.

Thhis probably has nuthing to do with anything were talking about now, but i have found a great way to heat up a small garage (without a heater) is to pull the car in with a warm engine, then pop the hood (or bonnet) and let the heat out. Worked great in my 2 car garage, and made the 28 degree weather bearable.
I've been dying to finish up my garage cabinets, but this ridiculous cold weather is really messing up my schedule.
The electrician was supposed to come last Friday and put in the 240v outlet for the heater but he is dealing with cold related issues all over so here I sit.

I can't wait until Spring!

I feel your pain. I wanted to wash 3 cars this weekend (money is getting low low low) but my garage sink has been frozen solid for the past 3 days ( its 7 degrees right now, -20 something with the wind chill)
With 2 300W bulbs my garage stayed 36degrees when it was -17 out.
Can normally keep the garage around 45 with just the two light bulbs...
under those lights?
i'd like to put a humidifier in there as the air is like 40RH.... very
dry air.
but if i do, it will probably snow inside the garage. lol
make sure you guys eat some candy or drink something while
you work in the dry/cold air. my throad felt pretty dry by
the time i was done. and that was only like maybe 1hr tops.
jeffc- I'm with you. El Kabong is filthy and I am dying to get him cleaned up and in his nice warm garage! So what are your plans for the rest of your project? Paint colors, floor finish....

I keep the garage at a nice, comfy 50 degrees in the winter so I can keep the MINIs clean. Last evening, drove them out of the garage, threw some buckets of cool water on them (don't want to break any glass), rinsed all the salt and chemicals of them, backed them back in, wiped them down with MF towels and some Slick... look great today !

cause even my battery charger was startingto not function too precisely in 25F.
MCS was on the chargerfor longer than 18hrs so i took it off. it showed it was only 80% charged
but from experience i know it will be full by 16-18hrs... rather a little less
than over.
nnnn, that's nice.

It's buried in this thread somewhere... when I get more time, I'll go find the post that gives the info on my heater. I bought two of them for my 450 sf garage. Does a nice job, even when the temps are in the single digits. Of course, my garage is also has 6 inches of insulation, which helps a lot and two walls are shared with the house, only two walls are exterior.
Our garage isn't heated unless I'm out there working, but the greenhouse; that's a different story.
Have to keep it's at least 55 at night or the orchids die. And my wife thinks my hobbies are expensive........... :impatient

I have a two-car garage that is nearly 450 square feet. I bought this heater for my garage a month ago and it's doing fine keeping it around 50 degrees at night, even when the outdoor temp drops down to 25, like last night. Of course, my garage is insulated and finished with dry wall. So if yours isn't, you won't have the same results.

as i don't want to keep the thing running unsupervised (i don't want a
$35 heater burning down my house).
but one oil heater is only good to get the nearby things heated up,
not the entire garage.
Yeah, I would worry, too, if I had an oil heater. I feel pretty safe letting the electric heaters run unsupervised. They have a safety turn-off that is very sensitive. You give it a little bump and it shuts off.
The first time I let it run for 12 straight hours, I even checked the plug to make sure it wasn't warm. I lost a house to a fire once... don't want to go through that again.

The garage was just painted besides some of the ceiling. So my plans right now is to just get the new walls done, finish painting and get back to normal. I am thinking of doing the floor but with some sort of tile but still undecided.

im sorry to hear that!
im sure these oil filled radiatorheaters are okay, but you never know. i unplug the thing when not in
use.
