That's our plan for the next place

Downsize the house, upsize the Greenhouse and Biggie Size the shop Wonder if I can get that for $0.49 extra

I was tempted to build the shop first, with an appartment upstairs and then start on the house. As perfect as that might sound, someone had fears that the house would never get finished

Yeah I have a two car garage with one garage door so 1/2 is a workshop the other is my mini's resting area. (Wife Durango stays outside it barely fits in the garage anyway )

Then I have another garage that used to be the home for a 57 Chevy that the previous owner had. It has eletric ran out there and built in stereo system. I use it for storage so my house garage is nice and empty

All storage 12' wide by 32 ' across, but only 6' ceiling height, but that works for our elf family

I hereby claim this land in the name of the King and we shall call it Testosterville! Nice a home away (well sort of) from home

Thats what I am considering when I get a place. Right now the most realistic plan is get the land, put down a slab large enough for a modular home and a two car garage...all with radiant heating. Then, when I get that paid down, start to build the house. Once house is complete, sell modular unit and replace with garage.

I'm here to help .

I found this on a home decorating forum I frequent, (yes, I really AM a girl ).
I've already received my order of Storewall, but was thinking this stuff might be great to fill in a few small areas where I don't want to cut down the Storewall to fit. The panels are steel and have slots to fit their hooks and other accessories. You can also get panels with holes to fit standard peg board hooks.
The price is right at about $17.00 per 8" by 32" panel.

The hooks that they make are also steel and start around $3.00 each and go up.

scurves- you keep impressing me with these nice plans. we
always hear of these younger folks in or out of college buying $40k+ cars
they can't even afford really, but you come out with a different approach
sacrifcing your first years with a 3k beater, but then have this awesome
plan about building a dream home/garage. i can tell you that i always had long
term plans and that has always kept me out of being in stupid debt.

BoCRon- that pegboard thingie you show looks awesome! i likes the red.
i should do a red and black combo.

Race Deck has these cool things that snap in...I use one for each car...

This was my plan. A 6 car garage with a studio house. And then the wife got involved......so compromises had to be made. Ended up with a 4 car garage and a regular house.

garage doors on an adjacent section of the home. i was like WOW!

Well, I still have the MINI, so I wont just have a beater. After talking with parents and friends...I may end up spending more money if I sell the jeep. I may look at some things to improve milage and use it more often. I should still be able to get a down payment for the land and garage construction.

Yet another new fabulous item I NEED for my garage re-do. Just think, with this I'd never actually have to go into the house again .Internet, radio, DVD player, CD player and TV(Satellite or cable) all in one! The keyboard and remote are completely waterproof and can be washed in the sink .

I looked at those Audreys back when they came out, there was another one, too, I just can't remember what it was called.
As I recall I couldn't justify the cost since I could walk about 20 steps to get to my office and use the computer I had.
This icebox thing has many more features, but they may have priced themselves out of the market. It would be better if you could buy a basic unit and add the features later if you wanted.

Was it this Compaq? (circa 1999)

I actually found one of these at work last year, in some long lost storage room.

Too bad that Icebox thing is like 50 million dollars or something. THey are crazy with their pricing.

As far as flooring goes. I decided to do Armstrong VCT (Vinyl Composition Tile). It is cheap (even moreso for me because I work in commercial construction) and easily replaceable. It is very durable and can be waxed for great shine. Also, if I decide to go epoxy or something later, the glue should come off relatively easily with a scrape with a razor floor scraper so it can be shot blasted or acid etched.

I really wanted to do a black and white checkerboard, but since I also was able to get about 15 feet of cabinets being torn out of a workroom and they are grey and blue, I am (with teh strong recommendation from my wife :D ) going with light gray tile with random accents of black, blue and dark grey.

It will be a couple of weeks and I will post pictures.

We were deluged with rain and then bitter cold so all painting was halted. It is supposed to be sunny and mid 60's tomorrow and Sunday so my goal is to get a big chunk of it done. Then hopefully I can start hanging the Storewall.
My cabinets are on a 2 week delay, so I'm hoping to have everything ready when they arrive.
I'll post some pics to show the weekend's progress.
