The floor is finished!!!!!
It took me a week to get through all the holiday malarky and get enough time set aside to work on it. Overall it took about 2 hours to lay the main area of whole tiles. It took another 4+ hours to do the edging tiles. Now of course, mine was a bit more complicated since I had a specific design in mind. Since my garage is an off size (not whole feet) I had to center my design and then cut partial tiles for both sides and the back wall. My garage is 21'10" wide and while most people would have done 21 whole tiles and then cut one side down to 10" tiles, that wouldn't do for me! I had to do 21 tiles and do a row of 5" tiles down each side. I also had to cut the row along the back wall (away from the overhead doors) in order to make the pattern work. Needless to say my husband has officially deemed my garage a high maintenance install, don't let my project deter you though, it was really fun and easy. The only reason my husband had to help me was so he could use his new Christmas present, the Festool saw and dust extractor!

Here's a pic of on of the more difficult cuts, but I think we did nice work

Along one of the side walls, I now know how "not square" my garage is, no 2 tiles were the same cut, of course.

Here's a pic showing the back wall, you can also see the multitude of paint colors I am trying. This will be at least a week of paint sampling before I make my final color choice. You can also see the box that my new compressor came in, Xmas gift from hubby

A fancy cut near the garage door tracks

Oh, and here's a pic of the Festool table saw and extractor. Hubby had much fun exclaiming to me after each and every tile "you know, that's not a cut you could make with just any old table saw, good thing I bought this Festool, right honey?"

Painting and StoreWall should be started after New Year's!

Very nice work - both of you. It looks like its really coming together. Those cuts remind me of tiling our bathroom - nothing is square.
Looks great!

Floor looks great!

Havent had a chance to get them up. I was talked into taking Christmas decorations down instead. Hopefully soon.

So, has anyone used any of the G-Floor products? There is one linked in the OP http://www.allmats.com/site/439205/page/664576 .

We are undecided about what to use, but my wife recently got hooked on this stuff, actually the exact stuff in the link, the Levant Pattern and all. Looks like I can find a rool for right about $600 shipped which is 9x60, and just enough to do my garage with a little left over.

I am just a little concerned that it will seem too thin and cheap. Also, any idea how it will clean?

LeeL,

Do you have a Sam's Club close by? They carry a product very similar, but with a different pattern for less $$. 9' x 20' for $153 and 10' x 22' for $187.

Edit: Just found their G-Floor link. No price, but I think this is the $135'ish one I've seen.

My concerns would be keeping the seams down on a wider garage. So I haven't tried it yet.

According to the guys on the GarageJournal forums the lighter weight one tends to tear (the 55 mil), especially if you have any turn once you get in the garage. I was going to do it, but for the heavier weight Levant, which is the one I liked, I was at $983.00. For only $100 more I could do the tile which has a 10yr warranty and I could do a pattern.

BoCRon:

Would think twice about painting the garage that dark (unless you are doing an accent) as the white makes the garage look bigger and better reflects light.

Just my .02

I'm actually only going to do the darker color on 2 walls and only up to 36", then the paler color the remaining 6 ft.
At this point, while I've tried and tried to love blue, I just don't know if I can do it. I keep lusting after really cool vivid greens at the paint store so I may just have to get a few of those to try next LOL.
Of course I have 3 gallons of blue now, but at least I've been told the drama dept at my son's high school is always in need of blue for set painting!!
Here's a pic showing my paint line and the lighter color for the top portion of the garage.

Look what got here last night!!! Of course I can't hang it on the wall until I've painted, grrrr. My husband couldn't believe I was so excited about a vacuum!

Here's a pic from the website where I bought it, great place! www.danase.com

My dishwasher and icemaker both broke over the holidays so I'm here waiting on the repair guy. As soon as I'm free I'm off to the paint store yet again

my vac's hose is kinda clumsy to use in a car and was thinking about getting
an adapter and smaller hose.

I am on week 3 of my garage repaint and have to say it sucks! Between the ceiling never being painted (30 Year old House), painting around the furnace and the million pipes, all the taping, then pulling the tape off that pulls the paint off then the touch up... And then I have 2 walls that the lower half are 1/2 concrete and anyone that has painted concrete know it takes forever.

Anyway I just have 3/4 of the ceiling (2 coats) left and I am done. I painted the walls white and have some accent pieces painted black like the doors and some of the cabinet. It looks really nice but alot more work then I expected.

I also have 2 mini banners on order so they should look cool when hung.

jeffc- how about some primer for your concerete and old walls and
also use a air brush? (will cut time probably by 10x or more)

Air brush?

I could use some primer but it would still be 1 coat primer and 1 coat paint so not sure how much time it would save. It is just alot of of time consuming work. Just a example I spent 6 hrs on taping and painting 2 doors and my front cabinets.

I just hate painting and doing different colors just includes alot of detail work especially when one color is white the other is black. You can see every imperfection.

jeffc, looking forward to some pics when you get it all done.
I've gotten to the point of calling a paint expert to help me decide the color! Actually she's consulting with me on my upstairs and how to deal with light issues. I'm using full spectrum paints up there and decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to use it in the garage as well. Ever bit of light will be great!

Yeah I tried my brothers wagner power painter but it sucked. I am sure that there are better out there and maybe a compressor spray gun would have saved me tons of time but I am almost done now.

Bocron

I can tell you that right colors make a huge difference. My garage was a dark grey and it looks pretty bad but now that it is white it is amazing. I will take some pictures this weekend I hope to finish it by sunday.

Here is a before and after of just the work bench and cabinets.
