i think im going to get me those Gorilla brand ladder platforms this spring
from HomeDepot.
not that i have a SUV or anything, but the extra height is better than me
standing on the door sills.
I know Griots sells a plateau platform but those things are a whoppin $99.
the HomeDepot one is like $35.

here's wat im running in my wider 2 car garage:
5 floursent lamps on the walls 66w(?) each = ~330w
5 floursent bulbs 23w each = 115w (brightness of 500w incandesent)
3 incandecent wall lamps 25w = 75w
i can run my oil heater at 1300w? without tripping the breaker... my breaker
trips when i go in excess of 2000w.
it's very bright in there.

Sense the beginning of winter I have been talking about changing the three 45 watt florescent bulbs with 200 watt bulbs. They are just the basic light sockets that are open. Well tonight I come home from work and park in the garage. When I got inside I realized I left my phone in the car. I went back out to get it and there was enough light to spay a cat! My parents swapped the three bulbs out for 300 watters!
Now to decide if i still need the shop lights.
Alright, I must appologize for making fun of you.

that's pretty bright.
but remember, you need to see thecar from all angles.... so you will want to put the lights to shine the
sides of the car. Also, make sure your bulb color is consistent with
your new bulbs that your parents put on... some have a soft white,
some are very white (almost blue).
this is an old pict. i have a third light now near the tail of my G,
and it shines the car very well on the sides.

here's the other side.
Ken, have we talked about those bricks yet?
I picked up new ladders the other day and the "step stool" one is the 3 step Gorilla Ladder. Very strong and stable, nice wide steps and much deeper then the older on it replaced

tire stops?
i was thinking about getting those plastic ones withadhesive, but then they dont stay in place that well on bare concrete...
so just got some bricks. it actually works pretty well.
its notlike im going any faster than 1mph on my final approach the last few
inches.
here's the one i was looking at.

is this the one you got?
are you talking about the cinder blocks in the walls or the bricks as tire stops?

I mean come on our garage is 24' deep and the car is 12' 9" long, I shouldn't have to work that hard to get around them

On second thought, my ladders might have come from Lowes......
They look like this one:
Tire stops
I threatened to hang a tennis ball from the ceiling, if they couldn't figure out when to stop

im kinda **** about exactly where i stop each time as i have it measured
out so that it is optimum distance from the walls...
i have a similar step ladder like that but with 2 steps that i use in
the basement. it's a nice unit. i also have a super narrow one in
the garage.
I use orange cones... One car, I aim the left corner to align myself with that cone; and the other car, I aim the center emblem to the cone. I then 'grade' myself for how I close I come to the cone w/o touching it... you know, like that episode of the Brady Bunch, where they have to get closer to the cone without knocking the egg.

remember though, i dont drive my G or MCS everyday... only once a week, twice at best. i honestly do not have the accuracy in
proximity of the cars (on top of that, one's tiny and one's pretty big)...
i'll probably hit the cone.
driving fast or on the street is fine... when it comes to parking in small
spots i need a second set of eyes.
My wife in her big Expedition, had a bad habit of driving through the back wall of our garage. To be fair, she never really planted the front end in the adjacent room, but there were smashed-in holes in the sheetrock. So this is what I did:

I bolted a 4x4 stop to the garage floor (removable) and put the reflectors up and added the hazard paint scheme.
I think this will work unless she hits it at about 20 mph.
My MINI (when it gets to see the garage) just barely fits over the 4x4.

Well, I did some more questioning about the lights. It appears I can safely run 600 watt bulbs. Some how I don't think I am going to be allowed to.
I am going to put the shop lights up. I am not sure about the color spectrum. Being that the three 300 watters are incandescent and the shop lights are florescent, I am sure there will be a bit of a difference. However, Its better than having nothing in the back. Now If the floor and walls had a fresh coat of paint, the rear bulbs probably wouldn't be necessary.

I got one of these for my husband. His truck is a tight squeeze in the garage and I was always worried that we would clip the back end with the garage door when it came down.
With this you just stick it on the wall and set your distance (we had to do 1 foot for the truck). When you pull in, the signals lights up green, then yellow as you are getting close, then flashes red when you are at the set distance.
Very handy.

I have that in our garage, too, Annette. My fiance used to nearly hit refrigerator #2 with her MINI. I set the light so that she stops when her front bumper is only about a foot clear of the garage door and now she stops 6 feet from the fridge.
Very easy to install and use and it's also inexpensive.

when i put the foam insulators on my garage doors which have thiswhite textured plastic on the side facing you, it really lit up the garage
well. the garage door was a painted gray color from the getgo. huge
difference in reflectance.
also, i painted the back wall (the wallwith all my posters on it) egg white. it's basically a Behr paint with no
colors added. that also brightened up the garage somewhat from the
original soft beige/white color it had.
LeeL,
Do you have a Sam's Club close by? They carry a product very similar, but with a different pattern for less $$. 9' x 20' for $153 and 10' x 22' for $187.
Edit: Just found their G-Floor link. No price, but I think this is the $135'ish one I've seen.
My concerns would be keeping the seams down on a wider garage.
So I haven't tried it yet.

So I haven't tried it yet.We checked and it seemed that was the cheapest, but three 9x20 will work as the garage is 19'-10 deep and 26 feet wide. I might check that out then. Of course, I need to do some more research since if as BoCRon said it is easy to tear I wil have to rethink it as that is my main fear with that stuff.
Such a tough decision.
I hear you LeeL!
My problem with most of these types of flooring products, in addition to seams, is I use my garage for more then parking a car. I can't see my rolling floor jack liking the raised "channels" or it lasting more then 2 seconds under the jack stands, without them cutting it to shreds.
I keep coming back to epoxy, at least for my application.

i too am sort of in the same boat. i like the coin shaped ones but
i dont think my floor jack's going to like it much .. either my rollaway
for that matter.
so might be bare this year yet again... and again.

You won't be alone....... I really don't see me pulling everything out of the 3 bays to paint/epoxy the floor.
I'd love to do it, but it'll have to wait for the next shop/garage

i might do a section of the garage down the road... im going to go down
to one car sooner or later in the garage and make the other half more
like a workshop/relaxing area/kids bike landing area.
He had half the area as a sitting/play area and the other for cars/shop, don't know what he's got now, we're supposed to be getting pictures this weekend

Here's one that better shows the potential size of this cleaning out project:
