Detailing ideas for your garage
To those with the perforated tiles,
- does it seem to trap dirt below it? sweeping it doesn't seem useful as it'll get trapped into the tiles. I suppose you could hose it down with water, but lets say a lot of dry leaves gets trapped, how do you clean it? I don't want to deal with making compost
- did you buy the edge pieces for the perimeter along the walls?
- is it easy to cut?
thanks!

I agree on the drawer too
(what, like I wasn't going to agree with your husband
)Mt tiles won't happen for a long, long time for us
Our current situation lends itself to a epoxy coating more so then a tile, entirely too much gravel dust and "stuff" get's tracked in with the tires. And I really do use my garage more so as a shop then a garage at times.
I will start my garage mod next weekend (Plan to be finished by Spring) I will be taking down all of my old cabinets and repainting them, get rid of my cuby system, adding new hardware and rearranging them.
Once they are done I plan on painting the ceiling. My garage floor is in decent shape since I painted last year but the floor is 30 + years only and the one side has some wear and I was thinking about using the material listed below.
Let me know what you think and it is available from lowes.

I look at this stuff everytime I go into Sam's Club, they offer it in a couple different colors and patterns. Like Ken said it could work out to be as expensive as tiles, depending on your garage size, but Sam's has it at $139 (I think) for single garage size. My concern has always been the edges and securing them to the substrate.
Does Lowes have a install recommendation?
Smokey,
I have only seen this stuff online at lowes I haven't checked it out at the store yet. I have some time to decide on the floor but my plan is to only do one side (The side my Mini is parked) the other side is used as a shop. I also have a detached one car garage that is basically used for storage.
What ever I do to the floor has to be easy to clean and maintain so I will do some additional research on this thread to see what would be the best fit.

jeffc- the bigfoot im looking at is the coin pattern rubber tile. they cost
a little more than the perforated ones but i really like the finish on these.
i think the material is thicker but similar to the Lowes floor rug(?) you are
looking at. im going to use jack stands, ramps, etc in my garage so i want
to have durability...plus insulation from the cold concrete in the winter
time.
and to top it off, like the rug you show, i can cut/fit these to
size using a utility knife. how cool is that?

2 - No...just cut the edges 1/4 inch or so from the wall...looks good
3 - Table saw would be the best...mitre saw/radial arm saw with 12" slide would be second...I used a jigsaw which was pretty good. Treid a Skill saw first adn it sucked...ended up kililng a couple of tiles...

Either way you can either vaccum it, or drag it out and hose it down.
I think the only edge pieces that they make are the little ramps that go on the outside edge. Greg smith threw them in for free (I only needed 9...).
I didn't need to cut mine as I only have about an inch on either side, but it is plastic, if you can't cut it, get something sharper than a butter knife!
thanks!
the heater is pretty good, but need to be within 6-7 ft of the unit
if you're going to be in the garage (about 37F) for a long period
of time.
i like how you can put your coffee mug on top of itand keep it nice and warm (hot).
I found that to be a problem with the oil filled units or electric units. The propane does alittle better than that, but it still wont heat the 3 car garage completly.
I would think with all the lights you have, that alone would add heat to your garage.

I have a two-car garage that is nearly 450 square feet. I bought this heater for my garage a month ago and it's doing fine keeping it around 50 degrees at night, even when the outdoor temp drops down to 25, like last night. Of course, my garage is insulated and finished with dry wall. So if yours isn't, you won't have the same results.

Yeah, that looks like one FANCY garage where the heater is in the photo.
I'm very happy with it. Keeps both of The Twins warm enough (they seem happy)
and keeps me from freezing my **** off when I'm out there detailing and mod'ing them.

I'm trying to decide between a getting 2 of these radiant heaters at $60.00 each, they also have a halogen light.

Or maybe one of these- about $300 but has a thermostat and is more powerful.5000 watts 17000BTU.

For those of you that like red, this is a good one 4000 watts. Around $160.00.

These can all be ceiling or wall mounted. They are electrical since I don't want to run a gas line out there and I'm one of those who gets a headache from kerosene.

I don't have a problem with the fumes or smell of kerosene (I love the smell of Jet-A in the morning...), and I'm looking for low cost and high heat output. When I was poking around Home Depot recently, it seemed that the kerosene heater put out more heat and was cheaper than the propane units. I'm not going to heat the garage all the time, just when I need to work out there. But I don't want to have to stand in front of the heater to get the benefit. So, those are my rationalizations.
I would like to insulate my garage, but I've gotta clear that with the landlord first...

the problem with the air blowing types for me is that it dries out my
eyes (i wear contacts) and the noise. also the dry air makes it more
susceptible to getting a soar throat...plus, it dries out tire sidewalls too...
so that's why i went with the oil radiator type.
The IR type was my original choice, which i think will do quite well
in a garage with flooring.
it doesn't heat bare concrete well and
this is why i didnt get it this time... and another reason why i will not
be doing epoxy on my floor and do tiles instead. after i get the floor
tiled next year, i will probably get an IR heater over my workbench area.

LL, sorry I haven't been on the forum today, just saw your question. Yes, it's from northerntool.com. They have a pretty big selection, at least 3 red ones that I counted!
