I don't have a craftsman card but got the box for $79 not sure if it will ever be any cheaper. Budget is low since X-Mas is around the corner so this fit nicely.

I have a seperate garage on my property that I can always put this box in if I decide to upgrade.

I agree the new boxes at sears look awesome. I also picked up a new screw driver set, plyer set, magnetic bolt holder, new magnetic light and telescopic magnet.

It makes a big different when your tools are organized and you have the right ones to do a job something that I never use to have. That why I love this thread it givers me so many ideas for my garage.

that's right, use the right tools for your work and keeping everything
organized makes a world of difference.

I also like getting tools that do multiple tasks...like 1/4" drive sockets
and the swivel ratchet from Griots which you can use as a nut driver
and a ratchet. those tools make it real handy when you're under the
hood and can just do multiple things without walking back to your
tool case or tool box. i also like the ratcheting open wrenches... im going to
replace my Gearwrench (just bought it last week ) with the
Craftsman one down the road with the ratchet you can change
direction on.

when im under the car and working in opposite direction, sometimes
i brain fart and try to turn the open wrench the wrong way.
with the ratchet with directionality, you can't mess up.

I'm psyched...just ordered my BigFoot tile. Total with edging and shipping was only $251! A lot easier to swallow than the racedeck price. I can't wait!

how big is your garage? wow, that's economical! keep us
posted on how things go. that's the hard plastic one, right?

i might do the rubber coin one from them next year as it's easier to cut
and no need for trim pieces. im thinking a red/gray combo would look
nice in my garage.

i measured my lower part of the garage to be 20ft x 17ft... so i need
340 tiles or like $700 to do mine. there's a higher part of the garage
where my bench is at but i dont plan on tiling that section of the garage
floor.

im not going to do epoxy in my garage.

i can't wait to see BoCRon's floor too.

I figured out a way to tone down the CLANG! on those tool cases with
composite drawers. My red/black tool box has composite drawers and
was annoying the hell out of me :impatient especially after getting my
new tool case with ball bearing drawers.

On my tool box rails i saw that the pull out rail guide has a notch
cut inward; the drawer side has a notch cut outward where they
catch each other when you pull the drawer. That's where it makes
that CLANG! noise when the drawer and rail guide comes in
contact.

i used a Q-tip head with the center rod part cut in an angle a few
mm below the cotton. I inserted the Q-tip rod into the drawer side
notch making sure the rod cut angle was parallel to the side of the
drawer. (The Q-tip cutton head would be facing towards you).
I pulled the drawer all the way out to use the rail guide notch to
push the Q-tip rod into the drawer notch completely. repeated
on the other side and WALLA! no more CLANG!

yes, i was kinda bord tonight. but it works.

I think you're preaching to the choir here, you are in the detailing forum after all!!!

You do realize you should have taken pics during the "mod" session on your tool box....

hehehe, but that would've made it too easy. i think the
important thing is we understand where that noise is coming from
and use our heads to visualize what the heck i did. oh brother...

alright... here's how you cut the Q-tip head...

here's how you insert into the drawer side notch
using a long nose. you can't see the drawer
notch as the Q-tip head is already in place.

The notch you see on the rail guide is where the
Q-tip head will hit; this is how it mutes the CLANG!
and no, if you do it correctly the Q-tip head will not
slide out. its friction fit, but nice and snug.

Which end of the Q-Tip did you cut? Can we get a photo of the other end? Was it an actual Q-Tip or some store brand? What does the draw look like closed - can we get a photo?

After reading the last few posts in this thread, I've decided the verdict is in - we are all seriously OCD.

While waiting on my garage floor tiles (end of next week maybe?) to arrive I'v been looking into a few necessary items I'll need to procure.
I like the Griots detailing cart, but don't love the price of $129.99. I may still knuckle and buy it, but I've been looking at other possibilities.
Found this today in my Harbor Freight sale flyer, $39.99.

Costco had a pretty nice one as well, but only 2 shelves $36.99.

This one from Global Industries is my fave because it's not red! (Won't work with my design, sorry I AM a girl )
It's $107.95.

This one is a bit of a reach, but I like that a)it's a bit smaller than the others, b) it has adjustable height, c)it has a power strip on one end and d) IT'S GREEN! I'm wondering if it would be possible to install the 2 lower shelves upside down?? It's $99.00.

Hate to do this to you Annette, but have you looked at Grainger?

They have 148 pages of carts

I've had one of their cheapie versions for about 10 years now. I used it as a welder/work cart before I got my welder cart. Welder was on the bottom and hand tools for the job on top.

Now it leads a cushy and well deserved I might add, life as my shop towel cart

i looked at the Harbor Freight one in person and it is poor quality.

the thing i like most about my Griots one is that it's not super heavy
duty so it doesn't look like some custodial janitor cart or some AV cart.
it's not light duty either... it's 'just right.' plus, it's got a fun red color to it
which i like.

I will start my garage mod next weekend (Plan to be finished by Spring) I will be taking down all of my old cabinets and repainting them, get rid of my cuby system, adding new hardware and rearranging them.

Once they are done I plan on painting the ceiling. My garage floor is in decent shape since I painted last year but the floor is 30 + years only and the one side has some wear and I was thinking about using the material listed below.

Let me know what you think and it is available from lowes.

^^jeff- i think that's a great idea. i was looking at those as well.

but for me, Ive pretty much decided i'll probably do the bigfoot as i
want to have a checkered pattern and the ability to change patterns
when i get tired of it. thinking about red/gray combo.

I went through a couple of different carts for my detailing supplies. I'd suggest ones with adjustable shelves if possible. The first one I used was by rubbermaid I believe and it had a top and bottom fixed shelf with an adjustable middle shelf, the shelves were black and the four corner posts were SS. IIRC I got it at Sam's club for around $40-50

The cart I'm currently using has the perferated SS wire shelves like a lot of shelf units. It has two lower adjustable shelves and the top is solid wood in a butcher block style. I also got it at Sam's Club, and I think it was something like $60-80.

Smokey! Are you kidding, I loved that link. I have it bookmarked to look at tonight at home where I can truly give it the attention it deserves! My husband has decided it would be a good idea to find one with at least one drawer if possible.....

jeffc, what is the size of your garage? Alot of guys on the garagejournal forum tried those roll out floor coverings. About half seem to abandon them in favor of tiles at some point. I looked at those as well, but in order to cover my floor completely I was going to need 3 of them and would then have about half of one left over. The cost ended up almost the same as the Daytona tiles, so I went with the tiles. And like kenchan said, I can re-arrange the tiles if I get tired of the pattern.

Mineon, I have to go by Sam's this week, so I'll take a look at what they have.

I agree. I looked at other carts and none seemed to be of the same build quality.

Well I attacked my garage this weekend and I'm really happy with how it came out:

See the writeup on my web site for all the details and photos.

Also for those wishing to compare RaceDeck vs BigFoot, here are the two close up. The racedeck has much coarser perforations and a little thicker. Perhaps better for heavy vehicles but not worth twice the price of the bigfoot for me.
