If I were doing all one color in the garage I would do the Locktile. Since I'm doing a pattern (of some sort) I don't like the puzzle edge that Locktile has.

I need to do something about my garage door... each time it rains against
the door the door drips rain water (+ mud) onto my cars when i open the
garage door.

There's no gap between the door panels when closed so i can't really
slide a paper towel to wipe it down before opening it. i think i need to
make a flexible channel to cap the water from dropping while the door
is up.

hummmmmm....

Necessity is the mother of invention, as they say. Perhaps this is the invention that will make you a fortune !! All you need is about a half million people who are obsessive about their cars as you are.

Make that 499,999. You can count me in as one of those.

ok, im testing my rough install of mirror sheet cut to about 4" width
strips and vinyl taped onto the door. you need to put slack on it so
that when the door opens at the knee the mirror sheet does not
tear off.

why mirror sheet? light weight, has texture so water does not roll
easily, and cheap... i think it all depends on how long the vinyl tape
can adhere onto the door. my door gets rained on maybe 10 times
a year so it's not a huge ordeal, but each time it pisses me off when
dirty water drips onto my cars.

unfortunately our community does not allow alterations to the
outside of the home so i can't put anything on the outside of
the door.

i took the picture so that the vinyl tape reflected light to reveal
how i taped it. its not this obvious in real life.

Kenchan,

I think I found a nice way to add some storage for your garage.

It's from Griot's Garage. Only costs $9,999. Get two.

I often wonder who buys those overly priced "storage solutions"!

I know it's no one I know

Maybe I need a better class of friends

Here's my work & storage area:

Cabinets are from Lowes, primarily designed for laundry & craft rooms, but they are just deep enough to give you a nice work surface without taking up too much floor space. The counter top is one that I cut down from a damaged section the cabinet shop tried to slip past me when we were building our house, so the solid surface wasn't in the initial garage plans.

And at the other end of the garage; a smaller work bench for grinder and welding operations and more parts storage. These cabinets are from an older house rebuild we did - I seldom throw anything away

Our garage is 24' x 32' and like most things looked huge on paper and would be big enough if it was just a garage. But it has morphed into a MINI shop and seems crowded with the 3 cars and all my stuff. Our next place will have my dream shop detached and about a beer away from the main house

lol. i don't have that many tools to put inside! i often see that
huge tool case on Griot's catalogs wondering how the hell one would
fill that all up... i can almost see some wannabie putting his brooms
and deck brushes in there! but that wide drawer will fit my PDR
tools nicely.

smokey- that's quite a setup you got there. i think i will have
to buy a bigger house first.

my tool case issue has been 'pending' the last 2wks. i just can't figure
a way to fit one in my garage space right now without disrupting the
space i need to detail my cars after a drive. my garage is a weird
shape...not a rectangle. one of the wall corner is angled 45 degrees
to match the design of the porch. plus, the deepest 4ft of the
garage floor is lifted up by a good 5inches or so...

i might just do a mobile cart with drawers for now. if i rid one of
my weekend cars i will have plenty of space.... but now why
would i do THAT?! i would rather buy more cars and play
with them than decorate my garage.

im waiting for this one to go on sale... its a 6 drawer ball bearing rollaway.
im going to pass on the chest for now as im planning to place this rollaway
infront of my little work bench (not under it).

Looks great, Smokey. I'm pleased when I see a garage that looks like it actually gets used! The ones that are perfect make me nervous .
I love all your old plates hung up, I have a couple but not enough to make a statement.

kenchan, I'm in a similar dilemma, I need to fit a storage cabinet but may have to reconfigure the entire thing to make it work. Luckily I'm still working it out on paper, but sheesh I need to get make a decision!

BocRon - if i had the taste for garage organization before i bought my
current home i would have done things very differently! (i would have
gotten another unit instead of the one i bought with the weird garage
shape!) so it's great that you are mapping everything out on paper first.

as you probably already know, in order to detail cars and work on them
without bumping into something you will need at least 3ft of space all
around the car. this limits the equipment you can put in there... like for
instance even mobile carts will not fit because the cart itself is already
~18" in dept. you will need 18" + 36" which is about 54".

i think moving cars around to work on them is non-sense in a garage
especially where we have snowy winters like here in Chicago. i dont want
to move one of my cars out into the rain or snow just to work on the
other. the car must be able to park in its usual location + have
the space for one to work on it.

since i work on my 2 commuters out on the driveway on warmer days
i think the mobile tool cart will come more handy for me than a full
blown tool case. I can at least roll the tools out closer to the cars
im working on. i know how heavy those tool case combo's are when
loaded with tools....out of plain lazyness, i would not want to roll
the tool case around everytime i work on a car.

i think the biggest window of opportunity for me to overhaul my
garage is when im done with both of my cars. i would get the floor
and cabinets done together while there are no cars in the garage.

i have many things to think about cause i know sooner or later my son
will want to park his bicycles and stuff in there too. eek... jk
so that's another thing that's slowing me down.. trying not to spend too
much on my current garage and just buy a bigger house with a 3 or 4 car
garage and start from scratch.

I bought the first insulation to install in my garage this weekend, and also decided to wire up some lighting as well. So my garage project has officially started...I'm excited. It will still be a shack, but a nicer-to-work-in shack soon!

I always do... Although over a week of rain is really hampering my efforts and making me work on things inside the house instead.

No, but the floor is wet in spots. Remember why I needed racedeck?

Well racedeck has moved to the bottom of my flooring list. It is the only one I have yet to receive a sample of. The Dynotile sample came today and is really nice. The diamond tread pattern is not as pronounced as the pattern on the Greg Smith plastic tile and the tile is much more flexible than most of the plastic tiles. Of course the Greg Smith Rubber tile is still the most flexible.
I'll give Racedeck until Tuesday and then I hope to make my final choice.

gonna happen to your real order? eek.

Yep, it may have done them in.
I'm just hoping it's not the most wonderful of all of them, I'd just hate that!
