Must be summer, busy here
I originally bought my products from Autopia, but I wasn't too pleased with the Sonus brand. Their clay was crap and the rest of their stuff was less then top-notch. I changed to Zaino and was very pleased with the quality and smell of the products. But then I found Detailers Paradise and my life changed over night. Suddenly the sky was a little bluer, my car shinier, the wife a little more spunkier and my wallet a lot lighter.
the Griot's system works for me. it's a nice simple system and failsafe.
for a guy like me who's just a weekend detailer it's a perfect system.
btw, outmotoring's closed for the week, i think. they're visiting the
large lizard.

yah, but i dont feel like getting another system just to try out.im sure there could be better pc's and stuff but at the same time the
system i have does the job for me so dont feel like expanding much at
the moment.
if it was subpar i would definitely move onto other things... or if i was
a professional detailer and found more efficient systems i would go that
route. im pretty satisified where im at right now.
yah, im waiting for a fairly big package from Griot's at the moment.
the only 'change' i have in this package is the 3" orbital and the PaintSealant
that im trying out this time. the other stuff is just re-order.
dang, where is the UPS guy?

no, not sure yet. As it frequently occurs, Griot's sent me wat appears
to be a recycled unit.
this 'guaranteed for life' commitment
is really annoying for people like me that dont return things unless the
unit was defective. box looks used, the cord how it was wound up
looks used. i just hope it was just someone at quality control just
testing these out making sure it worked properly.
scurves- on your 3" unit, does the backing plate spin completely
circular like on the 6" unit, or does it spin off center?
i put it on speed 3 and pushed it down.. the unit does appear to
function correctly but not sure if the backing plate is correctly
mounted.

the other stuff (chemical stuff) is all new and good.

lol. you tell her your wife everyday that she's pretty and just keep
noticing new things she's wearing and she will put in more effort
to make herself attractive. that's just the way it is.
i mean, if you put in over 10hrs to detail your car and noone
notices how clean it is, why bother, right?

Who really cares if no one else notices. I don't do detailing for them, just me.
What do I spray the wife with ... well if I told you and it leaked out, I could single-handily be responsible for a new baby boom - can't deal with that kind of responsibility.

I took a look at my unit and if i understand what your are saying, mine is the same way. Does the center move after you turn your unit on?
* Modnar checks his unit to make sure it isn't off-center and doesn't leak when it's not supposed to.

I certainly don't want to be responsible for any baby boom either.
it worked fine.
actually, i worked great!
i think i like thisunit.

when i turned on the 3" orbital at work i had no pad on the backing plate
and just turned it on, shut off. the backing plate spun off axis wobbling
until it stopped...which was awkward for a orbital buffer. it should free
wheel in a complete circle with no wobbling.
i put the pad on tonight, turned it on to get some speed and shut it off.
the pad spun freely to a stop in a circular rotation.
appears it just needed more weight on the backing plate. i was glad to
see that.

and so i put a dab of Polish3 on the orange pad, placed the orbital over
the scuff and turned it on at speed 3.5. nice orbiting feel, just like my
Griot's 6" orbital. nice smooth speed, good torque rejection while you
push down the orbital. nice variable pad rotation speeds. it felt just
like my 6" orbital just smaller. i likes.
will need to use it moreto get a sense of the motor and mechanism's durability, but so far very
nice.
Ken, the backing plate on the Griots orbital is 6in? How wide are the large pads then? I am starting to get paranoid that I might nick my paint with a backing plate that is to close to the edge of the pad.
i come outside to get mail and see that my whole fikken cars are covered
in flower.
it was pretty well attached to the seals cause it rained
earlier today. i found that the flower stained the seals as i peeled them
off one by one.
the paint appears ok but if the sun would've come out it would've been a
different story...would've been clay galor.
found the offending tree...so i shook it like i meant it. even tore off a branch.
oopsie.
who cares.
it was like a snow blizzard under the tree.
the flowers that didn't
fling off, i grabbed it with my hands and yanked the sheit off. damn i
hate stupid plants.
i come walking down the porch and my wife looks at me like WTF happened
to you?!
i was covered in flower.

guess i took care of that problem.
suppose to be sunny tomorrow
so will polish the LegacyWgn and try the Paint Sealant.

but that tree put up a fight though, cause i was sneezing andnose was stuffed and i felt like i fell upside down into a water well or
something and was gagging for air.

and my hands still smell like those damn flowers. lol the smell of death.
here is my plan of attack today.
38F right now, going to motor my G in about 30min.
supposed to be about 45F by noon, so will wash both dd's in the morn.
instead of Hydro'ing the legacy, im going to QD (meguiar's maroon bottle
junk version) and clay while i wipe dry.
let the car air dry out side.
come back after lunch 60F+, QD the panels (SpeedShine) and polish using
Polish3. will get about 75%+ of swirls out, going to cover up the rest with
sealant. mid-afternoon 65F, apply sealant.
...so, wat your plan for today?

oh yah, if anyone's wondering why stop at 75% swirl removal, here are some
reasons...
majority of the swirl is toweling haze. not many deep ones...only the ones
that my local carwash place made were slightly deep.
daily driver. it will swirl again soon, so dont want to remove too much
clearcoat yet as i dont know how many more years im going to keep this
car.
also want to see how well the griot's sealant covers the swirls.
