Must be winter, quiet here
More house detailing today. My roommate is having a 25th anniversary party for her parents on Saturday and her brother and one of her friends are staying with us. So she spent the day cleaning the house and I spent the day cleaning out my closet, organizing stuff, and mailing eBay and Amazon sales. My closet is so cleaned out now
Trying to minimize a little!

Sounds good, Mel.
Plasti-Dip spray is DA SCHITZ. I did my headlight rings last night and just reinstalled them. Looks FANTASTIC. The texture and feel of the stuff is perfect for auto trim. And it is SOOOOO easy... I used 4 wet coats, with 30 minutes dry time between coats. You have to let go of all the "good" spray painting technique you've learned when you use this stuff... you want each coat to be WET - no "light dusting coats" like you'd do with regular paint. The stuff then flows out as it dries - be patient - it looks like a mess for the first 15-20 minutes after you spray it... then as it dries it smoothes out and looks better. Dry, it looks great. If you see it running when you spray, you've used a little too much - just wipe it off wet and respray. But you put it on MUCH heavier than you would ever spray regular paint.
Plan to do my door handles either later today or this weekend. I'll post pics when all is done. I'm liking the meaner chromeless Blimey so far... need to let it sink in for a week or two, though... I'm intentionally not asking the double-X-chromosome unit what she thinks. Because I know she would like the chrome better.

ML- sounds like you're going to have a fun weekend!
congrats to ur roommate's parents.
blimey- wat's your opinion if we were to plastic-dip the fender
arches with their black stuff?
would we not need to
ever BW them again evAr if done right? not that there's anything
wrong with BW, it's just 'another thing' we need to do.

I don't know what experience anyone has with how plasti-dip responds to wax, polish, etc.... does it have similar properties and challenges as the black trim? Dunno yet. The great part is that it's so darn easy to do, you don't worry much about having to re-do it at some point... especially now that I've learned to get my headlight rings off...
That's a really good question - and an interesting thought. I'd be concerned about how well the plasti-dip would adhere to the arch material in the first place... it would be prone to lifting/peeling when you washed it. Of course, not a problem with your hobby cars, ken.

hahaha. from wat your experience has been, that plasti-diphas some adhesive properties in it, right? i suppose if it can adhere to
your slippery chrome finish headlight rings, it should stick pretty well
to plastic... but then again, it may need some adhesion promotor.. hummm...
someone willing to try on their car?
Yeah, I have free rein of what I do to Poco, but the chrome on Gimli the Clubbie is off limits
.Paul, are you going to remove the handles, or mask them off and spray them on the car?
Mark
Actually the handles are a biotch to remove... I'm gonna spray them on the car. Somebody posted some good tricks on how to mask them easily and cleanly using 3x5 cards.... (no, ken, not ONLY 3x5 cards... smartazz....)
Here's progress so far - the beltline, side vents and rings, to match the aero grilles. I like...

Gotta tint the side repeaters... the white doesn't do it with the black vents...

oh crap, i forgot to post some smartness... should've went like this:
"hey those rings look pretty good. that plasti-dip must be super easy
to apply... even for a fresh newb.
"
now it sounds like a kenchan stamped post.

Oh yeah - I was gonna say - I did a wash using warm water through the hose (from my garage laundry sink) and kenchan's Griot's dispenser nozzle.... bucketless...

Thing ROCKED... very quick and easy... spray on soapy water, spray soapy water on mitt, do a panel, rinse mitt and add more soapy water... seems like a very good solution for winter washes, as long as it's above freezing.

yah, i been using that thing on my dd's the last several months and
thing has been excellente.
the first one i bought (thinking it would break after my use) has been
working well. haven't even touched the backup one yet.
when it got colder outside the seal on the soap bottle got REAL TIGHT
for some reason after use and i had to use my smaller oil filter wrench
to get it off.
was fine in the warmer months.

I may setup some kind of Y-thingy with short pieces of hose so I can connect my regular nozzle and this nozzle to my warm water hose at the same time and drag them both around together... then won't have to keep switching the dispenser back and forth between "soap" and "rinse" one-handed while holding the mitt...
temps are rising to about 38F today but windy...
temps will rise even higher tomorrow to a whopppin' 41F but windy and
rainy.
hummmm... i think my dd's can wait for their wash
until spring like the rest of them out there.

yesterday i went to our company dinner (business formal). nice place,
kinda upscale, nice ballroom. french onion soup was good
, salad
was hummmm
..., main (steak and chicken with aparagus, potatos)
was
the display was very well done..meaning it looked delicious.
but the taste was like...well, let's say i took a bite of that chicken,
swallowed it, and i had to step out for a while
lol dessert was
even worse.
since i didnt eat much i took the wife to a real restaurant afterwards.
now that was fun and goooooooood food.
my old buddy's the
chief chef over there and he knowz how to cook.
at the party though, we exchanged gifts and got a cool music box
with xmas lights and choochoo train going around this lit tree thingie
which is cool.
that HD DVD player i won last year at the party
playing BINGO is still sealed in the box.

Funny... SEVERAL times my wife and I have gone to my company holiday party and "escaped" before dinner was served to go eat *good* food somewhere else... I haven't been caught yet... though I think some folks are getting suspicious...
Hey Paul, can you post some pics of the handles masked off. Would you use tape to mask off the levers?
Well, I'm going to go buy us a back-up gas powered generator. There is some real nasty weather on it's way here in a couple of days, and it just makes sense to us to have one, even if we never use it.

OK, did a fast research, Honda sounds like the best, high price too, so found a troy-built at the local Lowes, 6500 watts, electric start, nice feature, pretty good run time on a 5 gallon tank, low oil shut off. Should be good for emergency use. Oh, generators are getting hard to find locally
Off I go.
Then head across the parking lot, and sell Christmas trees for a few hours
