Are R127 wheels bendy?

I was recently driving on the New Jersey turnpike and hit a pothole that destroyed my tire (OE Goodyear efficient grip) mounted on my 18 inch R127. The two piece 5 star double spoke wheel was seriously bent. Thanks New Jersey for charging me for the privilege of running on your publicly funded interstate and then not maintaining it.

I had the wheel straightened, but discovered that two of the other three wheels are also bent. One may have been bent in the incident, but not the other.

Has anyone else had similar issues? I understand that 18 inch wheels and runflats are a challenging combination.....just wondering if these particular wheels are weak, strong, or average for 18's. They're 29.5 pounds, so they aren't "lightweight".

Interesting. I picked up a '15 CM S All4 recently with those rims. Nailed a pothole a couple months back and bent a rim. First time driving on tires with so little sidewall. Can't wait to be rid of them, especially after seeing how much they weigh!

Yeah, they are really heavy.....but still not strong enough to deal with runflats and potholes. They are attractive though..... Let me know what you replace them with.

Unfortunately that won't be until beginning of next year. My goal is a 17" rim around 20 lbs. A lot of the decent ones I've come across though are pricey so we'll see.

17 " wheels make a lot of sense....are you going carry a spare, a kit, runflats, or? This is my wife's car so I'm sticking with runflats for now. I have a space saver spare, but it doesn't fit anywhere handy.....

Not sure how I'll handle the run flat situation, but I'm leaning away from them. Other tire characteristics, such as noise, are more of a priority for me. I have AAA and the vehicle is mostly used for local driving and close trips (under 100 miles), so a flat isn't a huge concern. Granted it would be a little more inconvenient.

225/45R18 Efficient Grip ROF Summers are 27lbs.
You are saying those 127s are 29.5
The total weight per wheel is running 56.5

That leaves plenty of room to add Falken WildPeaks Trails (30lbs) on new 17 inch rims that are less than 26lbs.

Its the runflats that are ruining the wheels. I have bent a few Mini rims being on runflats. The other half of the year I had snow tires, and zero problems. RFs just dont absorb jack.... I blame them for also blowing out a wheel bearing and an axle. Speculation....but had I had a normal tire on, probably no problems.
