CAI vs. SRI

I have a 2008 Mini Cooper non-S and I'm looking to upgrade the intake. What is the difference between a cold air intake and short ram intake, and which would be better suited for my mini? I've google searched it and I've gotten different/vague answers. Also can anyone recommend any good ones? I've been looking at the K&N Typhoon, any comments on that? Also would it have a noticible effect on performance and/or sound?

Well, i have an aFe cold air intake on my '06 Cooper non-S. It sounds great, it feels like it pulls a little harder north of 4000RPM. Most will tell you power gains are minor, it's hard to tell really, but I do enjoy it. I got mine from VAC Motorsports.

What's up Dannyhavok... you replied to a couple of threads I posted recently which I appreciated. I recall you mentioned that you may look into buying a header for your cooper. I remember buying one quite sometime ago for a 1976 BMW 2002 and boy did it make a big difference! so I can only imagine what the difference would be for a little non S cooper... By the way I plan on installing a K&N Apollo 57a air intake on my 2011 non S hopefully next week!
After loads of research I decided on the Apollo... We'll see...

Please let us know how it drives after the install. I'm also looking at the Apollo at the moment.

So I installed the K&N Apollo about ten days ago. The first thing I noticed loud and clear was the sound. "a very cool sound in my opinion" It almost sounds like an exhaust mod. I was hoping for a better throttle response from this mod but I'm not sure... I'd have to reinstall the stock air set up to try and get a better take on it. I am digging the sound though!

I have the exact same dilemma... but I was also looking at the DDMworks intake as well, I was leaning towards that but it is the most expensive out of the ones I was checking out. Typhoon? Apollo looked good but I'm interested in more than just noise... but of course that is always a plus, as long as a little bit of somewhat noticeable torque comes with it.

Well... once I save up enough to cover the DDM intake- I think I'm going to go for that. It looks the most substantial out of them all- the Typhoon seems good too, but I'm diggin the DDM (unless anyone can pose the Typhoon as far superior- I'm going with the DDM! I can't fully explain why one is better than the other (which is why I'm here :P) but judging from appearances and other forum accounts, I think DDM is the way to go!
