R50 Cooper exhaust on R56?

Has anyone tried an aftermarket R50 exhaust onto an R56? I bought a Racing Dynamics for my R50 when I had it but never installed it. I actually just opened it up today and shoved it on the ground under my R56. It looks VERY close to fitting.

Has anyone ever done this?

You brought it up. You do it.

Haha, please do, there are so many exhaust systems for the older models and not a single one for the R56 non S. It would be great if everything fit perfectly.

There's a guy on NEMINI.ORG that put an R56 Muffler on an R53.

It looks like the bends towards the muffler are the same but the question is, is the piping the same length? also I've seen a few of them that do not have the V-ring adapter to the header and they have the bolt on flange. so those are two factors to consider. Hope you did it and could let all of us know if it worked out or not.

My guess is the R50 exhaust with the XL muffler won't fit the R56 without contacting the heat shield which means a serious metallic vibration. On another note I just fitted a $25 cherry bomb glasspack(resonator) to my stock muffler with a header and no cats and it sounds awesome with no rasp or buzz at all just a nice deep tone.

Not to mention that the hook up flange from the header to the exhaust is different between the two models as well. The R50 uses a stock two bolt flange to the header and the R56 uses a V-ring band to connect the header and exhaust together. And correct me if I might be wrong on this, but I believe that the two models are different lengths body wise. The R56 is a little longer than the R50. Not 100% sure, also not sure if that would have anything to do with how long the piping would be. My guess is that if this is the case, that the piping would be different lengths as well. Like I said I AM NOT 100% SURE ON THIS.

From what I'm hearing, that's the only way, or cut off the stock muffler and replace with a Borla or something slightly larger. Anyone find a good alternative?

Youve got the question and the goods. Give it a whirl. Someone's gotta be first. Imagine the fame and fortune (well, maybe not fortune) in being the one who was the pioneer of R50 exhausts on R56s.

VIP Customs just released a full exhaust from the second cat back for the non-s. Check the thread right below this one!

Well aware of it. Not sure I like the design. I like the R50 magnaflow. That's why I asked on the thread here

Yeah I understand and agree with you. The VIP one looks to close to stock for me, plus I like my custom design idea better. I just like exploring options

I'd love something with a small magnaflow resonator in the midpipe then a magnaflow race muffler like the R50 kit just with an additional resonator.

Takes the edge off on the street then for track remove the rear muffler bit.

I have that setup on my miata and love it

Borla on R56 justa plz

Yep, I am really looking for a Borla too. The one I was looking at was a supersprint, but if I'm going to put a lot of money into the exhaust, I want a Borla. Why can't they make one for us!?

i figure just because all we are looking for is a nice sound and what most companies are looking to do is make power, then make a nice sound and with our platform, there just isn't enough power to be made. thats just my .02

i am hopefully soon going to do a magnaflow muffler and remove teh resonator with a straight pipe. that seems to be the most cost effective and nicest (IMHO) sounding route to go.
