Check out the sticky about buying a classic. Rust can be a major issue with these cars, and the seller didn't provide any pix of the chassis. Always have a mechanic who is knowledgeable about classic Mini's thoroughly check out any car you are seriously considering. Having said that, I like the color...(see my gallery)

It is a dealership selling it, so my guess would be they have no idea that there were Minis that weren't Coopers.

That said, definitely go (or have someone go) check it out thoroughly for rust in the common locations. Again, refer to the sticky. IF it runs without issues and it doesn't have signs of cancer in the common spots, it's a good price. Otherwise, you're likely going to need to put a good deal of effort and/or money into it, depending on your skills.

Thanks for the info. I have no knowledge about the classics. I will do more investigating into this car and others. What makes it a cooper?

Thanks, Eric

for starters

the true Cooper and S were only produced from 61 thru 71 ... there was no such thing as a 1978 Cooper . . .

another book you may find is "Mini Cooper and S" by Jeremy Walton, 1982 and 2004.

and there are many good articles to be found on MiniMania.com

IMO $5500 for a car that runs reliably and is not a total disaster rust wise and is drivable is a decent deal. I'd check it out for additional details....

Is that a trailer hitch I see on the rear?????
