BTW, anyone coming from Denver? when are you leaving... I am passing through that area on my way down.. would love to join a caravan....
I plan to be arriving on wed night.
We are caravaning with the MINI Utah folks on Wednesday (doing Calgary to SLC on Tuesday). I'm curious what time we'll hit the I-80 to I-15 interchange.
I'm taking the entire week after AMVIV off to continue a little exploring. Anyone else interested in a 2 day trip to the Grand Canyon Sun-Mon or Mon-Tues? I've never been to the GC before (or Vegas for that matter).
There are a couple of "U-Wash" car wash companies nearby and Agro has them listed (with maps) in the official AMVIV booklet handed out when you arrive. I just bring my products and pail and use the U-Wash water.
Can you imagine the Vegas car wash scene during AMVIV? 400 OCD MINI owners trying to wash their cars at the same time...

Xiek knows this answer by now, but for anyone else wondering Denver has two planned caravans, one full day drive arriving Wednesday, one overnight arriving Thursday. You can visit our planning thread HERE on NAM for more details.

For radios there are two typs I've heard of used. The first (FRS) is available at hundreds of locations from various retailers and vendors. I bought my set at REI with a giftcard, but everywhere carries them. So long as they support the subchannels you're in good shape. Looking around I found a good FAQ about such radios at the BestBuy.com website. If you're in the market for radios, it might answer some questions.
The second are marine band radios, though I think you migh need a license to use these normally. They do not communicate with FRS (Family Radio Service) style units, but they get awesome range.
Ok, so I have a small supply of Turkish Delights (the original kind from England)we have a small store here that has chocolates and sweets direct from england, and some Flake, and Flake Dark... gonna get the Coffee Crisp this week...
got my frs radios at target claimed range of 18 miles is not anywhere near possible around my house with all the high tension wires they are strictly line of sight. (probably broadcast all the way across nebraska)

Actually, the second type are GMRS radios. GRMS radios are an extension of the FRS radios. GMRS radios contain all the FRS radio channels as well as a whole bunch of extended range channels. Some GMRS radios can get a 15 mile or more range. However, personal experience is that GMRS radios use up the battery a lot faster. FRS radios are getting rare now because for the same price, you can get all the GMRS channels.
The "normal" motoring channel is 7 with a subcode of 21. That is in the FRS range. So if you have either radio, you will do fine.
Marine radios use the UHF band of frequencies. They are also much more expensive. Also, the old CB frequencies are still around and I think the truck drivers are still using CB radios. I don't think you need a license for CB radios anymore, but I believe you do need a license for Marine radios.
Sorry, to be clear, those are the type of radios I've heard being used, not the only ones available. I don't think anyone's specifically commented (in person to me) about the GMRS ones. Thanks for clarifying, and sorry; I didn't mean to sound exclusive about their options.
Just over a week.... hurry up clock! :goes back to watching seconds tick past:
The shopping has commenced. How about Coffee Crisps, do you folks have those?
