Little Dragons - Special Activities for Them

And I don't mean baby goats!!

Hi all,

I am noticing quite a few people mentioning that they care bringing children, so I thought I would start a thread to see how many are coming along to MOTD. Maybe we can think about a very easy and casual activity for all the kids, like some picnic games, or something of that sort, one of the afternoons. Just a thought....

If you you are bringing children, how about you list if they are boys or girls and their ages and we can go from there. I am a mom of 3 and I know what it's like to try and entertain little ones. Our children don't come to the Dragon since all 5 of us won't fit in the Mini - hee hee - they get to stay with their grandma. But I am more than happy to try and help organize something simple for the people who are bringing their youngin's.

Opps! Sorry about that, I didn't realize. Thank you for the link to the other post.

How about we use this thread to discuss the possiblity of arranging a casual social event for the children coming to MOTD.

I might be up for such an event - depends on timing. We're probably going to be elsewhere on Saturday, and are leaving for home Sunday AM - so would need to be Friday to work for us.

Friday right after lunch might be just the right time.

Friday afternoon would be great for us too. We have the BBQ at 4:00 to get to, but we're free before that, and I know the kids would love to have something special just for them. I have a 5 year old boy and a 15 year old girl.

We're free before the BBQ as well. And I think something just for the "Little Dragons" would be great!

Maybe some "Field Day" games like a water relay, three-legged race, sack race, things like that. We could come up with some prizes for them as well...like MINI hot wheels & MOTD "Field Day" Participation ribbons (http://www.myribbons.com/SearchResul...?CategoryID=16) or generic medals (http://www.orientaltrading.com/appli...B+LASER+MEDALS).

Just some ideas!

Awwwwww "Little Dragons" - That's perfect Angela!!

I think a field day type thing is a terrific idea! It's easy and casual, would them a chance to burn some of their energy, and it would be so much fun for them!

There's a separate thread about an ice cream run. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=94062

I think that was supposed to be on Saturday at 1:30. If we do a field day event on Friday and an ice cream run Saturday, that's at least two things for the Little Dragons. Let's see if we can get this organized, and get it on the event planner so everyone with kids knows they are invited (and hopefully we can get a head count).

For those with children, when we were there in '04 there was also horseback rides available at Fontana. Not sure of the age limit, though.

My kids can't come this year, our six year old would have had a blast, but since I don't have a room and am camping, we didn't think bringing the 1 year old was a great idea.

Great Idea Kamofrogg!

How does everyone feel about a small cost per child, like $5 so we can give out "prizes", have treats for the kids and cover costs for game materials?

Please let us know your feedback on interest and if the small cost is okay with you.

I'm ok with paying for the event. I think it's only fair to cover any costs for whoever is organizing it. We also should have an age range. I think kids 2-12 would enjoy some "kid only" time, but they obviously can't do the same things. We can do field games for older kids, and maybe some other games for younger kids. Anyone have access to a play parachute? A hunt type game is fun for all ages. I know Easter will be long past, but what kid will turn down an egg hunt? Red Rover is a fun game for different ages, and water balloon fights are lots of fun. I'll help organize in any way possible, but my time is limited.

I have no problem with paying for Andria to participate.

And I do agree that it would be helpful to get the Ice Cream Run that is on Saturday & the Little Dragon games Friday added to the event planner.....I am trying to keep track of everything we want to do.

How do we go about getting these things added? Anyone know?

What a great idea! I have a 10 year old girl who will be dying for activity. Playing games would be perfect. A price would be perfectly fine as well. I'm should be at our booth the whole time and I'm not sure what work I must do in co sponsoring the BBQ, but I've been known to sneak away for long periods of time. I have never been to the Dragon, so I'm not familiar wirth the location or event schedule, but I'm sure it will all work out. I just wish I could commit to actually helping!

My boys are 7 and 10 - I can help out at the event as well (and I'm sure my wife will pitch in, also) - as well as ante some $ as needed - unfortunately won't have much room to haul anything up (cabrio with family of four). Field games, scavenger hunt (kid-friendly geo-caching with no GPS required...), water balloons, parachute for little kids are all great ideas. Maybe gwilliongirl / dragonflyer could print out a big mini outline on banner paper or CHEAP vinyl if they have a big printer (like roof flag size) and kids could color and decorate this with markers over the weekend, sign it, have their picture taken with it, hang it at the banquet, etc.

What a GREAT idea!

Does anyone know if it would be possible to have a package shipped ahead to Fontana? I think it'd be a very easy way to ship prizes, ribbons, balloons, & any other supplies needed for the Little Dragons.

Forgot to mention that my "Little Dragons" are 13-1/2 & 14-1/2...a bit on the older end of the age scale, but I'm sure that they'd get a kick helping out.

We have tons of room, if you want to ship any items to our house. We are renting a trailer and hauling our MINI down behind our Suburban. So we'll have plenty of space to bring stuff down. Does anyone know if we can get MINI-related prizes?

This was gonna be a suprise for any kids attending our welcome dinner. The Discovery Store sells this cool RC Dragon. We will have one to auction off at the Welcome dinner!! I played with one of course at the store and it was pretty cool!! (they cost $39.99)

I have a brand new in the box 1:18 RC MINI Copper from my car collection that I will bring and donate to you guys for the "Kids Festival". It's Red with white bonnett stripes and black and white checkerboard on the roof (from KB Toys)

Just as a alternative idea. If you all want to do a adult / kid combo event. One of the excursions I was thinking of hosting this year was a drive to Tuckaleechee Caverns. It's in Townsend TN on the north side of the Dragon about a 1hr. 45min. drive from Fontana. We went several years ago with our daughter and had a nice time. Here is a LINK to their site.

Kara (KamoFrogg) spent the morning looking for fun MINI Cooper toys to bring as prizes - hopefully one of the many toy sites she contacted will sell us a box or two of their Cooper toys at something approaching wholesale. I'm SO happy that she's getting into this as much as *I* am.

Great idea, only we don't have a large printer so it would be really expensive. We could always get a roll of butcher paper to draw on or something. Or we can make bumper stickers. Either to color (maybe a decolorized version of one of the official designs) or we can have a contest and the kids can all submit "Little Dragon" bumper sticker designs and then they can vote on their favorite and we will print them. We'll keep thinking...I'm sure there is something we can contribute. Or let me know your ideas and we'll see if its doable.

The "color-able" bumper stickers is a GREAT idea - my 7 year old is an aspiring artist and he already photoshopped one of dragonflyer's pics with a dragon roof into a wild color scheme he wanted...

I can get a fairly large B&W banner print of a mini outline on paper - I forgot - I actually do have access to a big printer... If anyone has a suitable outline / decolorized pic, let me know...
