Might as well say what I'm bringin':

» Oaken Barrel Brewing Company (Bloomington, IN)
Gnaw Bone Pale Ale
Indiana Amber

» Barley Island Brewing Company (Noblesville, IN)
Blind Tiger Pale Ale
Brass Knuckle Oatmeal Stout

» Upland Brewing Company (Bloomington, IN)
Pale Ale

» Kalamazoo Brewing Co. (Comstock, MI)
Bell's Kalamazoo Stout

I'm gonna have to really try not to drink these...

I stuffed them all onto the bottom shelf of my fridge (ah, the benefits of being a bachelor; a fridge with naught but beer, month-old pasta, and a couple slices of cheese). Hopefully there's a fridge in the cabin at Fontana; I'd like to minimize the warming cycles. My apartment's too hot to keep them unrefrigerated. :-(

now off to do some sampling! really psyched for the swap!
All of these sound great. The nut brown and apricot has me intrigued for sure. I think mully1217 and I have found our first swap

I realize the idea of this is to bring a local brew but I am going to take a different approach (if you hadn't seen the list yet) and bring some homebrew. Hey it is locally brewed!

My plan is for at least 2 different porters or stouts (depends on what we brew up in the next week or so) as well as an IPA and bitters.

The goal is to bring at least 2 if not 4 MINI kegs... (sorry couldn't help it) 1.33 gallons that is.

My only problem seems to be how I will keep the kegs cool enough on their journey to the Dragon. I will be going from Charleston to Greenville on Wed. night to see some friends for the eveing before continueing to Fontana on Thursday morning. At least the trip is short and I realize a cooler with ice will work but I have the issue of trying to fit a cooler with 5 gallons of beer, a few bottles of the hard stuff, ginger ale (gotta have a mixer for the bourbon and goslings!) food, clothing and necessary tools such as racing jack and other goodies just in case!

I am going to have to get creative with a couple of small coolers or some really trusy trash bags with the kegs and ice in them.....

see you soon!

chris

A few notes...

Thanks to everyone thanking me for this. I'm not good at accepting the whole compliment thing.

For whomever has bought or hasn't bought their beer, don't refridgerate if at all possible. Beer getting cold and them warming up again has a negative affect on the taste and life of the beer. It'd be best to buy it "warm" and leave it in a cool, dark place such as a pantry or basement.

CustomAV, I don't know much about homebrewed but if they don't HAVE to be chilled once they are brewed then leave them warm. When you get to the swap you can have an ice chest or something to put them in with ice and we can chill them down then. I'll chip in for ice but I don't have a large ice chest or barrel to use.

Lastly, shirts came in today and man do they look great. For those who paid for them to be shipped you can expect them mid-to late this coming week. They'll be mailed out priority mail with delivery confirmation this saturday morning. For those having them picked up they are ziplock bagged and awaiting their new owners quietly. My wife cut down the shipping/bagging time immensely and it ony took us an hour or 2 to bag 115 shirts. Had the packages for shipment prepared already.

See you all in a couple weeks and talk to you much sooner.

Matt

It'll be in your hands soon. No hitches when they went out this morning, although the people in line behind me weren't happy. Postal lady said it was the longest receipt she's ever seen. 45 items of which 42 had delivery confirmation.

Guys & Gals, chime in with your opinions on Ran48's situation.

Also a note for the uneducated, if you buy beer from a microbrewery and its cold, check and see if it is pasteurized or unpasteurized. If it is unpasteurized it must be kept cold or it will go bad. But even if its pasteurized it can still skunk.
i was goanna buy my bonus beer (i'm only a guest ) over the weekend, but you guys made me concerned that it would spoil, so i'll just pick up the beer the weekend before i hit the road
but i didn't think that Bud & Coors would spoil that easily

I used to bartend & the beer distributors said that it is OK for beer to be cold & go back to room temp. It is not OK for it to get extremely hot. I don't know about the microbrewery beer but I know this applies to Bud, Coors, etc...

Lois, it's "hefeweizen". A standard hefeweizen is an unfiltered beer. And for some reason many brewers make a raspberry hefeweizen.

Kool, don't worry about spoilage. Just use your head.

The website has been updated so feel free to check it out and see what everyone is bringing.

Oh and while looking at the website see if you agree with my nominations for "Best Named Beer". If you think I should add or remove one let me know. Everyone will vote when they check in at the swap. The person who brought the winning beer will receive a prize.

The nominees are...(beer name only, not brewer name)

1. Moose Drool
2. Big Butt
3. Gnaw Bone
4. Horny Devil
5. Horsepiss
6. Hell For Certain
7. Under The Kilt
8. Final Absolution
9. Impaled Ale
10. Old Leghumper
11. Pious Monk Dunkel
12. Fancy Lawnmower

I'd nominate the "Brass Knuckle Stout" (?) I'm bringing, since you don't seem to be limiting it to 10 entries or anything. Nothing'll beat Moose Drool or Old Leghumper, however. :-)

The cabins at Fontana have fridges, right? I can probably keep my beers cool all the way from Indy. It's been over 80º in my apartment for the better part of the last week (and it's *far* too early in the year to turn on the a/c!), so I'm just keeping the beer in my fridge for now. I'll hopefully have room for a cooler in the MINI! :-)

I agree Old Leghumper is going to be hard to beat. That's my favorite. I want a bottle just so I can display it!

I do believe I have a nomination for you already with Gnaw Bone. I limited it to one entry per person so as not to give anyone an unfair advantage. I can change yours to Brass Knuckle Stout if you think its better. But Gnaw Bone to me is cooler.

OK here is what I am bringing. The IPA isn't being bottled to Thursday, so I will pick it up then. I also got a t-shirt donated for the raffle (size large).

Founders Centennial IPA
Founders Dirty Bastard
Founders Red's Rye

I have a case of each. Is this too much? Should I sample it all to make sure the batches are up to par?

I was also confused by the "too much beer" question. Isn't that one of those endless equations that never ends with an answer? To shorten it, no, not too much beer, especially since I want some of the red's and dirty.

Awesome job with the shirt. I couldn't ever get a hold of Founder's. If you give it to me at the check in I'd be happy to give it out as a door prize. If you keep it for yourself, I don't blame ya.

The shirt is in honor of all your hard work, so it is my insignificant contribution. As far as your particular needs in beer, whatever you want you shall have.

Just finished packing the cases with packing peanuts so I don't have to listen to rattling all the way down. Hard enough to here my music over the roar of the engine!

I sent you an email with in depth descriptions of the beers.

Thanks for all your hard work. We love you man.

I wasn't sure if yours was a raspberry or not. But that brew company does make a raspberry one. Raspberry is so delicious. You'll have to try Abita Purple Haze. I'm bringing a 12 pack of that, its delicious.

Dirskill, my MINI is going to be so full of crap I don't think the sound of the rattling bottles will make it to my ears. Besides, how would I distinguish between my tailgate rattle and beer bottle rattle?

I'll mark the shirt down on my prize list. For some reason all these companies sent Large's. You'd think they'd realize that most male beer drinkers are XL.

Finally got my beer today......so I am off the naughty list . Bringing Yuengling Porter as well as Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale. There will also be some Yuengling lager floating around but most of it will be in my belly (since I noticed that other people were bringing some Yuengling Lager). If there is interest in some Iron City from Pittsburgh let me know. There might be room in the mini for it still .
