Um, I would like to hold a Red Stripe, so that I can be better looking! I suppose standing next to someone holding a Red Stripe might also work.

Ok, I went out to my local beer place (the one in the path of the tornado last weekend) and my "beer guy" was there supervising repairs. He wasn't sure he would be reopened by the time I left for the dragon so he sent me to "the competition" and I found a nice selection of stuff. I may actually bring some beer that is from the Asheville area in addition to some stuff from Atlanta.
Here are my Atlanta/North Georgia choices.
Terrapin
Sweetwater
Red Brick
The Asheville beer is called Highland
I was wondering if there is a type of beer that would be more appealing to the group. My husband and I prefer stouts, porters and some of the red ales, but I know not as many people like the "heavy" stuff. Would it be a bad idea to bring the heavy stuff or should I stick with India Pale ales and the like?

Any mantion of CIDER?

Sorry Beer just ain't the drink for me...

Any who find that beer just ain't their thing, I will likely have a bunch of ciders with me. I will not have enough to hand them out, but samples can be had.

Enjoy your beer swap!

BoCRon, bring what you like. You won't be the only person who likes te heavy stuff and many others are bringing porters and stouts. I personally prefer lagers and ales. Oh and let me know which specific beers you are bringing. I see general names in your post.

Xanthus, there is one guy bringing hard apple cider. Not to be rude but I don't believe you are registered for the swap. It's full beyond capacity right but if I find out there's more room I can add you in if you want. But as of now we are full.

I will hopefully know early next week, I'm told, about which room we'll be in and the capacity.

Matt

No that was my shout out to those who missed out to come have a drink elsewhere.

Have a great time with the......beer .

Props to the guy bringing cider. I am easy to find and always wnating to try new Ciders, I am partial to K, Strongbow, and WoodCHUCK (not to be confused with woodPECKER).

Hornsbys, Magners, and Woodchuck could be cooked with, but that is about it....

I love all the new twists being added to the event, good show

I will pass as there will be little I wish to drink, so you all have a blast and know there are more times for drinking during the event.

Koolmini, do NOT refridgerate the beer. Just do like the others said, a cool and dark place like a pantry or basement.

Uh oh. I have my beer in the basement now but it was cold when I bought it. Does this mean I'm gonna have skunky beer? My usual supplier keeps all the beer in a giant walk-in cooler. I'm not an expert on beer, I just like to drink it.

Depends on how long its been out and how warm the basement is but most likely it will go bad before the dragon. If it isn't a huge amount drink it now and buy more. If it is a huge amount, well I don't know what to tell you.

Guys & Gals, chime in with your opinions on Ran48's situation.

Also a note for the uneducated, if you buy beer from a microbrewery and its cold, check and see if it is pasteurized or unpasteurized. If it is unpasteurized it must be kept cold or it will go bad. But even if its pasteurized it can still skunk.

Matt

Matt,
Glad to hear it. I will post with my final purchase by this weekend. My husband wanted to sample what I brought home before we make our final decision I'm going to have a hard time deciding and don't want to bring too many varieties in order to keep it less confusing. I'm going to bring at least 3, one of which will be the Highland Brewing Company-Gaelic Ale. We tried it tonight and it was phenomonal.

We had so much fun tonight tasting the few I brought home, it got us really psyched for the swap.

Ok so here is a very positive update. Those who read this thread regularly will get a heads up before those who just get my email updates.

Chad Miller from Detroit Tuned, http://www.detroittuned.com, will be providing pint glasses with the Brew Swap logo on one side and the Detroit Tuned logo on the other. This very generous offer will provide ONE glass per registrant and we hope one for the guests that bring beer as well. The guests, however, aren't guaranteed a glass.

And don't think you guys can all of a sudden have your spouse or significant other take a 6 pack from you and qualify. We know your games.

So THANK YOU Chad for your generosity. He also let me know the glasses will be clean and ready to use that night. Sounds perfect.

Questions? Email me.
Complaints? Email the help department.
The Chadster is the MAN!! Detroit Tuned ROCKS!! The Brew Swap is definitely going to be the highlight of the Dragon. Cudos to Matt for all his hard work and to everyone, from participants to breweries, for donations, etc. I can't wait!

That's the way I was this past weekend when we went brewery hopping. I kept getting samplers and afterwards my mouth was yearning for some more.

Big Daddy, thanks for the kudos, looking forward to some canadian brew. In case you didn't notice you're no longer the only canuck coming. Jason from coopersport.ca is attending as well.

Thanks to everyone buying their beer this weekend. I'd love to have the list close to down by mid-week. At the end of the week I would like to do my printing but something tells me I'll have too many stragglers to do that.

I'd just drink it all this weekend and go buy more. But, I really like beer.

Big thanks to PassatDoTd for setting this up! It should be a blast!

Cider is great! I lived off of cider for about 10 years before graduating to beer After our pilgramage and tour of Plant Oxford last year, my wife and I celebrated at an Oxford pub with a real pint of English cider

The swap will be a great time! Thx Matt!!!!!

I bet there will be all types. FWIW, hubby and I like the "heavy" stuff. We are bringing a darker as one of our beers. We also like the "medium" stuff...and the "lighter" stuff and...well, you get the idea!

Ok, not too many comments about beer storage prior to the swap so I googled a few sites.

Bottled beer:
  1. Best if refrigerated but should never be allowed to freeze.
  2. Fresher the better, but has shelf life up to 9 months.
  3. Light is the biggest enemy and sunlight can turn bottled beer skunky in a very short time.
  4. Draught (unpasturized) beer must be kept refrigerated, as Matt said.
Therefore I presume the beer I bought which was in a cold room should be in better condition than the same age beer stored and bought warm. Since I am keeping it in a cool dark basement I don't think it should be a problem to store it that way for 3 weeks. Still, I will consume most of it prior to leaving and buy again, but then who is to say how long it has already sat on a shelf prior to purchase?

Comments?

Ok, I've ruled out the Sweet Water IPA. Absolutely nasty, DH hated it, too. So I had to open one of the Terrapin Oatmeal Coffee Stouts, yummy. I'll be bringing some of that for sure!
I've talked the guy at my local beverage place to allow me to put a hold on a few things but let them stay in the nice big walk in there. I don't have room here, or the willpower to leave it alone!

ok, my mouth is watering! i LOVE oatmeal stouts, and i love coffee stouts, so this sounds absolutely amazing!!! i will def be looking forward to trying that! *mouth orgasm*

so i picked up my beers today!! some of which i will be sampling tonight with my friend reese to figure out if i want to bring more of some...here is what i have so far. i wanted to get a good sampling from some upstate ny breweries and all that jazz...

ommegang (cooperstown, ny) - belgian style ale and hennepin
ithaca brewery (ithaca, ny) - nut brown and apricot wheat
middles ages brewery (syracuse, ny) - impaled ale (ipa) and holy grail ale

i was going to get some really great growlers of some local stuff from here...but they don't keep very well, so i decided to go the bottle route.

now off to do some sampling! really psyched for the swap!
