Ok so I did my brew trip this weekend. It was a lot of fun. Sadly only one of the places bottled beer.

I tried to find Dixie beer which some of you may have heard of. But it seems they are no longer in business.

I'll be bringing about 5 types of Abita. I might eliminate one though, not sure yet. I'll also be bringing some Heinerbrau, a new microbrew here in Louisiana. I got a 6 pack, in cans, of their light beer. It's pretty damn good.

For those of you who live within driving distance of a Gordon Biersch restaurant & brewery. I highly recommend them. Awesome place with good beer and the best chocolate cake I have ever had.

Only a few of you emailed with your beer selections this weekend. Come on people, get out there and by that delicious brew for the swap and let me know what it is.

The website has been updated.

Matt

I love Gordon Biersch, I've only ever been to the one in San Jose, CA.

Hey Matt,

Wasn't Dixie beer the ones that did Blackened Voodoo, or am I confused? Its too bad they're out of business - I liked that beer. BTW - I think we can still get it around here, at least for the time being.

Edit: Ok, just found out about Dixie. They were in bankruptcy before the hurricane and it doesn't look likely that anyone will invest or take it over now. So safe to say no more Dixie Blackened Voodoo.

Yea Dixie made Blackened Voodoo & Crimson Voodoo. Like I said, I think they went out of business.

No place between here and new orleans had it in stock. Their phone number no longer works. And they were in an area that got hit hard by the hurricane. They may have just shuttered for now or for good. No idea.

If you like it and can find it I say pick some up for yourself.

3.5 weeks away and you are all too quiet.

Check out the website. I am updating it almost daily now with people's more detailed beer list.

Who else is excited? I am. Not ashamed to say. As I said earlier I'm bringing Abita. For those that are familiar with it I'll be bringing:

A 6-pack of Amber
A 6-pack of Golden
A 6-pack of Red Ale (Seasonal)
2 6-packs of Purple Haze

I plan to also bring a 6-pack of Turbo Dog and the Strawberry Lager if they get it in. I had some of that this weekend and it was pretty good. Just a hint of strawberry taste. In fact it's almost as if they just added a hint of strawberry smell. At first I didn't think it was great but on my second one I realized it was the scent and the light berry after taste that made it so tasty. If they get it in I'll bring 2 6-packs of that too.

Anyone need anything else or have any questions?

So can I get a definition of what qualifies for the Brew Swap. As posted in another thread, we had a tornado in our area this past weekend. Here is the car wash near my house, the issue for me is my beer guy (who stocks and recommends local brews) is in the store across the street which also took damage and is closed, not sure when they'll re-open. So I am still going to go get some beer from Five Seasons, but have lost my source for other beers. What qualifies as a "local" so I can be on the lookout for other brew?

VERY excited!
I've got a case of warm beer sitting on my kitchen table to remind me every day.

I too am very excited. Due to bad health, I havent been able to enjoy a beer in over a month. It was easier when it was cold out, but yesterday it was 67 and sunny. Oh how I wanted a cigar and a beer.

Looking forward to it! Hubby and I went to the Yuengling brewery here in PA over the weekend. Tasted several great beers. We are bringing a case of Black and Tan and a case of Premium to the swap. We figure we can never have too much beer and if we don't swap it all, we can drink it!

Now we're getting somewhere. I;d like us to all get so worked up we're foaming at the mouths come time for the swap. Well, foam or head.

BoCRon, bring whatever you can even if it isn't local. And if you double up with what someone else brings thats fine too. We were never that harsh to begin with and given your situation we'd cut you even more slack. Do what you can and don't sweat it no matter how it turns out.

S Curvz, hope your 100% come Brew Swap time. I can't imagine the will power you'd need to come and see all these delicious brews and not be able to sample them.

PEP, that beer better be outta the sunlight!

Va Bene, you summed it up nicely. It's not possible to bring too much beer to this thing. Your worst case scenario is that you have to bring it back home and drink it yourself. Damn, dems da breaks huh?

Don't worry. The sun doesn't come in that side of the kitchen. Actually, the beer is nestled into several stacks of clean and folded (but-not-put-away) laundry.

I went brew shopping tonight and from the Florida Beer Company (formerly Indian River Beverage Co), I'll be bringing a mixed case consisting of:

Ybor Gold Amber Lager
Key West Sunset Ale
Beachside Premiun Lager

It's a good thing I really bought 2 cases so hopfully there will still be 1 left by the Dragon trip!

Now I just have to tell Bev that we need to set aside part of the boot for the brew. (I'm going to suggest that we pack clothes around the bottles. Plus, it will keep the rattling down .)

If any of the "Brew Crew" is still looking for a place to stay, we've rented a 3/2 "non-smoking" cabin that is about 9 miles east of Fontana on Rt 28. My brother-in-law was going to join us but plans changed. We'd be happy to share a room or two.

Stocking up this weekend. I will make a report when I get it secured. I did not want to buy it too soon, just to have to do it again. Too much time to sample the stock before the Dragon can be a problem don't u know.

To go along with the random door prize drawings I'd like to give a prize away for the "best named" beer. Now by best I probably mean funny. But I won't limit the entrants to funny. I'll probably narrow it down to 5 names. I'll have a tally sheet at the sign in table and when everyone signs in they can tell me which one they think is best. Most votes wins.

Here are some candidates:

Leinenkugel's Big Butt
Finest Kentucky Horse ****
Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower
Thirsty Dog Old Leghumper
Bluegrass Brewing's Hell For Certain
& of course, Moose Drool

These aren't the final ones. Just the ones right now which would fit the bill. So if you haven't given me your beer list yet, here's another reason to do so.

I am picking up my beer selections this Friday (nothing says Good Friday like beer shopping) and will let you know exactly what I am bringing. Again, thanks for organizing all this!

Don't worry, Matt, Brandon and I are definetly psyched about the beer swap...as a matter a fact, that is how I bribed him to come to MOTD this year! I think you have all of our beers now, save one "mystery" brew, but we'll be picking everything up this weekend, so I'll email you directly.

Wooopeeee!!!!!

I, for one, will be making sure that Matt leaves with at least an extra bottle or two of my beer for making all of these arrangements! Thanks Matt!

If all 50 of us chip in a bottle or two, we could keep him in free beer for... well... at least a day or so!

My bro left San Diego with a whole box full of beer. We'll see how much actually makes it to the Dragon!

Batgirl, Matt may hold back considering the price of those Alesmiths.

Ok so here is a very positive update. Those who read this thread regularly will get a heads up before those who just get my email updates.

Chad Miller from Detroit Tuned, http://www.detroittuned.com, will be providing pint glasses with the Brew Swap logo on one side and the Detroit Tuned logo on the other. This very generous offer will provide ONE glass per registrant and we hope one for the guests that bring beer as well. The guests, however, aren't guaranteed a glass.

And don't think you guys can all of a sudden have your spouse or significant other take a 6 pack from you and qualify. We know your games.

So THANK YOU Chad for your generosity. He also let me know the glasses will be clean and ready to use that night. Sounds perfect.

Questions? Email me.
Complaints? Email the help department.
