The Church Brew Works has some great food and beer. If anyone is ever strolling through the Pittsburgh area I do recommend stopping by.

So are any of you guys going to the Chili cook-off? I'd really like to go, but its not even at Fontana, so I wonder if we wouldn't be able to get to the beer swap until 9:30 or even later? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

This will probably be the first year I miss the chili cookoff. I'm not happy that it's not at the event site or the format of the event. Why change something that wasn't broken? I'm going to talk to my cabin mates and see about having our own chili party.

I am planning on attending the Chili Cook-off even if I have to leave early to get back to the beer swap which is of course my first priority. How long in travel time is it from Fontana?

Crap, I registered for the chili cookoff without realizing it wasn't being held at Fontana. I doubt I'll go.

Too bad the events will be so far apart. Maybe those of us not attending the chili cookoff can abide by an honor pledge not to crack any beers until the chili contingent arrives...

Well, if we want to organize our OWN chili cook-off for the beer swap people, it could circumvent any problems with arrivals and such...I'd like to enjoy my couple of days at Fontana, and I really don't want to be rushing from one place to another. But that's just me...plus I'd like time to set up the beers we're bringing and stuff. To me, it wouldn't be the end of the world to miss the Chili Cook off at Tapoco...11 miles is a little ways to go.

i don't even drink beer and i find that funny (that's because i have enough beer drinking friends that think that an ice cold beer waits for nobody )

Maybe just the swapping beers... I certainly will have other brews on hand that I may incidentally consume from time to time.

for the record: the 11 mile trip to Tapoco is a fun twisty 11 miles of road (Rt. 28)

Yes, but at night, I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy of the scenery!

I also originally planned to attend the chili cook off and I kenw it was at tapoco. But I thought the tasting would begin at 6pm and now its at 7:15. No way I can go there and be back to set up and make sure all is good.

Disappointing but as others said, Beer Swap is the #1 priority, for me.

Good idea - lets have our own chili party Or BBQ

Maybe some one can offer up a spot in front of their cabin for an informal pot luck? Say, The 1st Annual Pot Luck Swap before the Beer Swap

I'm going to talk to my cabin mates as well. I just don't want to feel rushed... For the most part, my watch will be off my wrist most of the time during the time I'm down there. Too bad it's not at Fontana -- I was really looking at competing in the cook off :( And trying to win

I'd be interested in some kind of pot-luck thing, but we're tent-camping this year, so about all we can commit to is probably chips, salsa, soda, that kind of stuff. I'm happy to contribute what I can!

BBQ is a great idea! I know I've heard people talking about good BBQ down there. Is there a place nearby we could pick up BBQ from?

I thought it was bad enough that the drive-in occurs at the same time. I think I'll pass on the Tapoco chili cook-off this year and "bar hop" between the beer swap and the stager-in, I mean drive-in.

Too much going on Friday. What about changing the Brew Swap to Sat. around 5 or 6?

I think the Friday date is pretty well set. There are bound to be conflicts no matter when it is held so we will just have to make do.

Green beer?

No, I am not talking about green dye being added to beer. Saw this on Slashdot this morning. The story links to Wired News about how breweries are becoming more "green" in regards to the environment. Both breweries mentioned have brews that are listed in the top 100 acording to Beer Advocate.

Every year AtlantaMINIS hosts a party at Tapoco. First year it was the Farewell dinner, last year the Welcome Dinner, so this year we wanted to do the dinner in the middle.

We have always taken over Tapoco Lodge. Fontana just can't hold all of the MOTD participants and hotels all over are booked up.

We will have a Margarita Stir-Off as well as lots of give aways, games and a fun time. Even if you just stop by to visit, please come. Its not that far away and the drive from Fontana to Tapoco is a blast!

It's too late in the planning to change the date of the swap and many people mentioned that they did not want to drink before doing Midnight on the Dragon. We'll just have to deal with missing whichever event we don't attend. It happens.
